      • Amazingly it got shipped early, I ordered on the 16th and got it on the 20th.

I thought I missed out on a deal with the same model Dell that was $200 cheaper but had a lower processor and 8GB ram.

This one seemed too good to pass up.

        • You got it delivered within 4 days?

        • Ozbargain comments seem to suggest that the dells budget gaming machines (some g5s and g3s primarily) run hot. Hotter than their contemporaries such as legion and acer. What are your findings with your laptop @nathand?

          • @WarChief: I haven't put it through its paces yet, but am going to this weekend, was going to re-install Windows (it comes with Dell bloatware, McAfee, Office 365 pre-installed)

I think there are some threads on improving heat, but it looks like a constant issue but can be managed.

There was also a bios update that might fix some of the issues.

and there is a whole reddit thread on improving performance with this one.

Other than that, first impressions the build is plasticy but solid, which could be about the weight because it is heavy but it feels decent for the price.

Full keyboard is good and has decent action, old school MacBook style but a little cheaper.

I am going to use with external monitor mostly but can give more feedback after the weekend.

  • Should I get this or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/636355? After $200 cashback from Amex they are almost the same price.
Acer has a better gpu but Lenovo has a better cpu and screen.

I will be using it as my only pc at home, play some Dota 2 and possibly some NBA 2k and GTA 5 however I won't be using many professional applications.

  • Any way to make these output to two external monitor s. I can see it has HDMI out. But it don't say if any of the USBC ports support display port. I would like to try some gaming (one external monitor) and watching movies while web browsing (two external monitors). I would prefer the laptop screen to be turned off.

    • No, it does not support screen over usb c. You would need a USB C hub with HDMI output.

      • So this laptop can support 2 external monitors?
1 on hdmi and 1 on usb c via hdmi to usb c adapter?

        Thanks

great deal, wont get this price in a long time so if youre in the market for a new laptop buy now!

  • Can you add your own RAM or is that going to void the warranty?

    • +1

You are allowed to add ram, hdd, ssd. They even give you a bracket for an additional hdd in the box

  • Think this is the bios updates for it here:
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/AU/content/support-product/8305?b…

can see if this has extra space for a NVME or another SSD…

anyone know? (nothing about it in the online manual from what i can see.)

    • You can fit 2 nvme ssd's and one hdd

      • thanks, is that including the original storage? if so what is it? (SSD or NVME)

IE what extra can i put in? (friend bought one so i cant physically eyeball it)

        • +1

Inside is a 500gb nvme. You can add one nvme and one 2.5 drive

  • if anyone is interested in purchasing the i5 variant, it is $1149 refurbished from Acer Australia this weekend
