Original Coupon Deal

The IdeaPad Pro is a different beast to the regular variety with much better quality, such as full aluminum chassis and QHD 120hz 100% SRGB screen option compared to the regular variety I posted earlier.

Now there are two colour configurations (Storm Grey and Cloud Grey) with slightly different specs and prices. I spoke to the sales rep online and they advised me that delivery would be 6 to 8 weeks depending on the custom configuration.

If you select the "Storm Grey" colour configuration, you get access to the Nvidia 3050. If you select the "Cloud Grey", you get access to only the Nvidia 1650.

Storm Grey Colour Configuration $1473.91.

  • Chunky discount as I signed up (and subsequently cancelled) on the sticker price at $2244.
What I am really after is the 14" as I have enough screens and value portability more than screen real estate.
Perhaps it pays to just wait and see, maybe it will show up on Amazon. I note the Intel variant recent appeared so that is a good sign.

    • The power supply is 135W, so I assume it can jack up to more? Also apparently the Dynamic Boost steals 15W from the CPU depending on CPU/GPU usage and donates it to the GPU instead.

    • it might be wrong, cuz as far as I know, it should be 55W.
but the main limitation is the 4GB ram
      https://gyazo.com/805f76572c3dea7961514189da1bd1e6

      • What makes you think it should be 55W? The overall power supply?

There is a good video review of this model. He seems to love it.

  • For non-RTX is the 1650 better? I guess you could get the 3050 for DLSS, don't think it'd RT would be that great even with RT-cores

  • I’m trying to login via unidays but when I’m forecasted to Lenovo site from unidays it’s asking for passcode to login into Lenovo website. Does anyone know what details you need to provide as passcode? I’ve tried unidays password but it doesn’t work.

    • +1

I would like to know too, cannot go past the lenovo page asking for passcode

UPDATE: Spoke to the Lenovo rep, they said "The Passcode is given by your school or university management."

Now the search begins, however dont know where

      • Does anyone have these details?

  • Can anyone help me out with a Unidays discount code/ link to this deal please. I don't have an education account.

      • Hi mate,
I'd like to buy this laptop, please help me out. I can't send you a PM as I'm a new user.

  • Is 3050 model unavailiabel now? I can't get it as an upgrade option on any link

  • Correction it's there with only the 5800H option

    • +1

nah 5600H is also on sale, just bought one for my father

  • Op, I’m getting price for below config as $1346.41 - Am I doing something wrong??

    Cloud Grey Colour Configuration $1294.01
    Ryzen 5800H
    16GB RAM
    512 SSD
    QHD 120Hz 100% sRGB 350 nits
    Nvidia 1650 4GB

    • Just change the CPU to the 5800H first. All other configurations should change other then screen. Change screen to 120hz option. Price will show $1294. I just tested it again.

    • +1

Need to opt for Storm Grey. Cloud Grey doesnt have RXT 3050.

  • Can i replace the 512gb ssd with a 2tb M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe ssd once received or is 1tb the max supported ?

    • +2

Honestly this shouldn't be an issue. Just double check the NVME form factor in the laptop before buying a 2TB drive to make sure it fits. They just provide 1tb Max as a config.

    • You can replace it, but you cannot add another one (ONLY ONE SLOT)
      no room for any upgrade

Yes of course - with the right combination of games and resolution/gfx quality.

    • -2

      soz but nope

      • -1

really depends on what you play

    • install half life 2 or black mesa

you will hit 300 fps without fans spinning much

    dont forget there's 12% cashreward

just bought one with 5600H+1065 for my father
    pretty good deal

    • I thought education pricing is excluded from cashback?

Purchases made through Lenovo's student store, staff discounts, corporate deals, and negotiated offers (phone/email/chat) are ineligible for cashback.

    • Noob here. How do i go getting the 12% cashback?

      • +1

Create an account with cashrewards.com.au and then go to the lenovo site via cashrewards site. The cash back is valid only when your transaction is tracked by Cashrewards. The same is true for shopback.com.au

  • Does the USBC port have display port

    • +4

If you look at specifications or select "technical specifications " on the website, you will see that it supports Data, Power Delivery and DisplayPort.

  • I was playing around with the website re the Coming Soon 14" models but couldn't tell - will the 14" models have the option of a NVIDIA 1650 or 3050?

    • +2

nope, it only has the option of MX450

      • Thanks. How much of a step up is a 1650 versus the MX450? Does it make much of a difference for a casual gamer, maybe some AAA titles every once in a while? Could I play cyberpunk decently on this for instance? What about older games like GTA4/5?

        • Get the 1650 at a minimum.

        • Ideapad 14" AMD with 5600U + MX450
          LOL(highest quality): 1080P 110FPS; 1440P 108FPS

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (lowest quality): 1080P 54FPS

        • even 1650 cannot handle cyberpunk2077, so dont expect to play any recent 3a titles

    • +1

If you refer to the YouTube review someone posted further up the page, you will notice the 1650 on the AMD version of this laptop significantly outperforms the Intel version, which is limited to a mx450.

      • Hmm am I looking at the Lenovo page wrong? Looks like the 14" will only have 2 options - intergrated or MX450. No mention of the 1650 which the 16" has the option:

Sorry I was talking about the 16" version.

          • @shellshocked: No worries at all mate - appreciate all of your efforts and time, thank you for your contributions to the community!

  • that's a good option from Lenovo at last

let's see if prices on the retail site will hit that level on father's Day

  • Don't have a code to buy anyway, but wondering if anyone can comment on shipping timeframe for this?

    • +1

Was told 6-8 weeks by their support team.

      • Thanks AquaDigger, I need one sooner for my wife so might just visit a brick and mortar Officeworks or TGG.

        • +2

Very unlikely you will find an 8 core CPU laptop, with this spec, in this price range from retailer, especially OW and TGG. Have you looked at the other Lenovo deal I posted with shipping within 2 business days? Just ask a friend or family if they have an edu email.

  • I am comparing GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU on GPU benchmark. These 2 video cards produce very similar test mark around 10k. Does that mean these 2 cards are pretty much the same in terms of gaming? Then shouldn't they have a very similar price?

    • Pretty sure it's just a vanilla 1650, not the Super.

      • I guess the question can be extended a bit. If 2 cards produce same result, does that mean they give the same gaming experience and we should go for the cheaper one?

        • I can't help you with that sorry as I don't have that in depth knowledge, just trying to make sure you're comparing the GTX 1650 and not the GTX 1650 SUPER. This laptop comes with the 1650 and not the 1650 SUPER.

  • +3

If anyone's keen on getting the 14" rather than the 16", you can order it now even though it says coming soon. Steps are:
    1. Go to: https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/ideapad/ideap…
    2. Tick the box under 'compare'.
    3. Go to: https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/ideapad/ideap… (or any other item)
    3. Tick the box under 'compare' - You need to compare a minimum of two items.
    4. Click 'Compare Items', or the blue 'Compare' button at the top of the page.
    5. Click 'Customize' on the 14"
    6. Customize to what you want, choose any extras, go to cart, apply eCoupons, buy.

    • +1

      Clever girl.

The shipping time is still 6 - 8 weeks tho.

Hmm…$1150 for the 14" vs $1450 for the 16" with a 12% possible cashback from cash rewards.

      Can't decide.

      • Firstly, great reference!

Yea shipping time is a lot, but I'm lucky in that I don't need it for a while yet.

It's a tough choice right!! Took me ages and I'm still unsure if I'm happy with my decision haha. The three options I came up with were:

        14" - Base $989.40
        Processor : AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600U (6C / 12T, 2.3 / 4.2GHz, 3MB L2 / 16MB L3)
        Memory : 16GB Soldered DDR4-3200
Solid State Drive : 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe
        Display : 14.0" 2.2K (2240x1400) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 60Hz, 100% sRGB
Graphic Card : Integrated AMD Radeon™ Graphics
        Battery : Integrated 56.5Wh

        14" - Best $1218.04
        Processor : AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800U (8C / 16T, 1.9 / 4.4GHz, 4MB L2 / 16MB L3)
        Memory : 16GB Soldered DDR4-3200
Solid State Drive : 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe
        Display : 14.0" 2.2K (2240x1400) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 60Hz, 100% sRGB
        Graphic Card : NVIDIA® GeForce® MX450 2GB GDDR6
        Battery : Integrated 56.5Wh

        16" - Best without the 3050 $1,294.56
        Processor : AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H (8C / 16T, 3.2 / 4.4GHz, 4MB L2 / 16MB L3)
        Memory : 16GB Soldered DDR4-3200 (SDP)
Solid State Drive : 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe
        Display : 16.0" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS 350nits Anti-glare, 120Hz, 100% sRGB
        Graphic Card : NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6
        Battery : Integrated 75Wh

I ended up landing on the 14" even though it was only ~$80 more to go to the 16" with way better specs as ultimately it was the form factor I was after. Still a great deal for a 14" spec'd laptop though.

        • Is it worth paying extra for MX450 2GB GDDR6 when you have a Ryzen 7?
I thought the APU would be almost as good.

  • +1

Thanks OP, helped my mate order one tonight, great deal.

  • Anyone else getting October delivery? I ordered on the 6th

    • Hey mate do you know if you get charged as soon as you order or when the order is shipped? I'm on the verge of ordering but October delivery is a bit off-putting. Thanks

      • So… Both, spoke to support this morning. The initial one is just an authorisation of your card and will come up as pending for a few days (AFAIK). Then once shipped you'll be actually charged. Note below from the order confirmation email:

Please note, this is an authorisation hold only, not an actual charge. Your card will be charged at the time your order ships.

      • Yeah it's still pending on my card. Let you know if it changes

    • +1

Yep got October 19th for 16 inch 3050 model yikes.. fingers crossed it comes earlier!

  • +1

Apologies for the Lenovo-noob question: can we cancel an order before its shipped without incurring fees?

I'd probably pick one up but 6-8 weeks is a long time for another bargain to come up and give me buyer's regret before I've even got it in my hands.

    • +1

Yeah you can. I cancelled my order because I wanted to swap to a rtx 3050. I did it by using the chat box on the website and then they gave me a phone number. After a 5 min call it was cancelled, but it takes 2 days to confirm the cancellation.

  • Anyone else who ordered one let me know their eta of arrival mine says October 19th way behind 6-8 weeks what i was quoted

    • Yeah same, hopefully it's like Dell and eta a time month over when they actually send it

      • +1

Mine just got pushed back to December, how bout you ?

        • +1

Yeah same, did u contact support and ask them wtf? Lol

          • @yoshiyoshi: On hold with support now, if i go to order the exact same spec one now in the cart it says it’ll ship within 6-9 days ill keep you updated with their response

            • @ItsBraden: They still had ship end sept arrive mid oct on their end but pretty much just stated due to chip shortages, if parts come in quicker will ship quicker but same with delays extending time. I guess if a better deal comes out before shipping can always cancel.

            • @ItsBraden: Yeah prob look for better deal :(

    • I just ordered storm grey spec 5 mins ago - had 6-9 days as ETA, Amex charged almost immediately and $200 cash back (added +1 year of support to get $1500+)

      • +2

Can you let me know what the ETA says in the order visibility portal ?

        • Yeah, would like to known as well. My one still say ETA as 16th Dec.

          • +2

@Sid04: I had my complaint escalated and they got in contact with the fulfilment team today saying the eta is likely incorrect but won’t be able to determine one until next week when they hear from suppliers regarding stock and then they will update the ovp eta. I’ll try again next week and see what they say.

        • Ahhh.. I see.

          Expected to Ship
          September 30, 2021

          Expected to Arrive
          October 18, 2021

        • They're all over the place.
I ordered on July 8 - original delivery date was mid-October, then over the weekend it actually updated to mid-September.

Called sales support about the cited 6-9 day shipping on the store and was told to cancel my original order and re-order, because the store's dates should be correct. Couldn't say what was going on with my original order.

I ordered a second time but didn't cancel the original. Had no ETA on second order until this morning.
Now I have the following order statuses:

          Ordered: July 8
          Expected to ship: November 30
          Expected to arrive: December 17

          Ordered: July 13
          Expected to ship: September 30
          Expected to arrive: October 19

Both orders are for the 5800H, 120hz, 3050 configuration.

          • @Maychance: Yeah I agree. Exact same config ordered July 6 expected ship nov 30 and delivery dec 17

            • @ItsBraden: One thing I noticed is that the pending charge disappeared from my card for a few days and only reappeared yesterday.

              • @ItsBraden: And now mine pushed out to Dec too.

                • @Tafe: I asked customer services via chat and they told me my order is been tracked for dec. I asked why it was moved to dec from 6-8 weeks timeframe or why the website is now saying new orders can be shipped within 6-9 days, but they have no idea and was told to call the 1300 lenovo number as chat guys are offshore and the onshore team might have more details around my order status.

                  • @Sid04: We regret to inform you that your Lenovo Order IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 16" Storm Grey delay due to unforeseen parts shortage.

We sincerely regret the inconveniences caused.
We understand that you might need your laptop urgently.
Alternatively, in case you’re not able to wait for the machine – we can offer you the options below:

We can arrange a call back from 1 of our sales consultants to discuss about an alternative laptop model for you.
                    Cancellation and full refund

                    • @Tafe: Was that speaking to the post-sales team today?
So December is the legit ETA?

                      • @Maychance: Yes - This was via email today, in reply to why my portal indicated December delivery.

      • Did you actually get a $200 cashback in the account?

        • There was a pending Lenovo charge and a $200 credit, both have since been reversed.
