Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14-inch i5-1035G1 / 8GB RAM / 512GB SSD $898 + Shipping / Pickup @ Harvey Norman

200

My daughter's laptop broke down so I needed to get one ASAP for her online schooling and found this. Ordered yesterday and I was able to pick it up an hour later from "Click and Collect". Very easy transaction. I think it is good value for the price and specs.

Also Free Upgrade to Windows 11 when becomes available.

Ram upgradable on any of these?

That one doesn't have touchscreen/isn't a 2 in 1 like the one in OP.

Say what you will about touchscreen laptops being less value but for the current lockdown it makes an absolute world of difference being able to write, graph etc with a stylus/finger versus sketchy mouse attempts

      • They are heavier and less durable in my experience though

        • Some are heavier, but even if it adds 400g is that really an issue?
Recent deal here had a touchscreen laptop with a semi-discrete 4GB GPU and came in at 1.37kg. To me, that's still light.

As for durability, I've had a 2-in-1 for 3.5 years now and it's held up exactly like I'd expect a traditional laptop to.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday but my wife saying this 2 in 1 is more versatile, touch screen and more storage.

    • If you don't need touch and 15" screen size is OK, you can get an IdeaPad with a much more powerful AMD Ryzen 5 5500u CPU from Harvey Norman for $798.

Using Passmark as a comparison, where higher is better.

      Intel i5 1035g1 scores just 7882

      AMD Ryzen R5 5500u scores 13600

Ram upgradable? Will have to see if any other stores can pricematch. HN is on my 'not to buy from' list.

TBH, I was also looking at other stores if I can price match it but I cannot find one with with 512gb. The same laptop from other stores are only 256gb.

      • oh well, I am not in hurry to buy one. will wait. Thanks for your comment.

  • bought the same non touch laptop (i7) near christmas for around 960$ and is very good laptop so far

  • wouldnt this acer be a better buy with as it has a newer faster cpu and priced cheaper $798? https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-swift-3x-14-inch-i5-113… however I have had bad experience with acer they all seem to die just out of warranty. are Lenovo any better built and can any of these add more ram too as i really need 16gb later on?
