For us Brisvegas residents, looks like Aspley, North Lakes and Toowong have limited stock of the White model, and Kippa-Ring + Stafford have limited Charcoal stock.

Stock in Chatswood. More than 10 km Nah.

    • +3

      5km today ;)

    • +4

      I am within 2km but it's non-essential. So that's a 'no' for me.

Kmart is open - it is essential for kmart mummy blogs.

  • +1

not a huge difference between gen 1 and gen 2 that i noticed

    • +1

Same here. The speakers in the Gen 2 are a little bit better, and there's sleep sensing + gesture controls, but not really worth the more expensive price.

      • +1

the only feature i can see with gesture is nearly slapping the unit to pause and resume

      • Idk why but Google having data to when, where, how long and how well you slept for a tad creepy?

Like I don't mind Google having my location, it's an acceptable trade off for the benefits but something connected to wifi watching you sleep is weird..

In a year, presumably quite a few people will pay for this??

        • Every single day
          Every word you say
          Every game you play
          Every night you stay
          I'll be watching you

Exactly how is this friendly tool creepy in any way at all. }8•|

      • +1

The sleep sensing is locked behind a paid subscription as of 2022 as well.

    • +2

new one is bigger, extra mic and better sound.

      • pretty sure its only the bezel that changed, screen is same size and added gesture controls and sleep functions. Max is much bigger.

        • it's still has extra mic and better sound…

the one i got from Telstra for free was gen 2…

  • +3

Not bad… Got it for free using Telstra points… It's currently on sale there…

    • Curious, does anyone know if there's any repercussions to using a friends online Costco account to buy stuff and get it delivered to me?

      • +2

nah my parents use mine im pretty sure

      • +2

as long as you not buying OFTEN with your friend account and send stuff to you address.

        • +1

I sincerely doubt they care as long as they get a sale.

          • @Munki: If they didn't care, why then mention it in their T&Cs ?

            • @jv: To cover their arses.

  • any idea if the audio and mic pickups on this 1st Gen are similar or better than the original Google Home? Wondering if it's worth an upgrade to get the screen, but I don't want to lose out on audio/mic performance.

  • this or $99 for second gen at OW?

    • +6

I would go 2nd gen for $20 more myself.

    • If it is bedroom looking at your bed I"d get the gen2. I am always interested in waking up and seeing my sleep tracker results . keep in mind It's only free for a year I think

      • You have to pay for sleep tracker after the first year?

        • +1

          Yes, the google website says

Sleep Sensing is available for free preview until next year. After the preview ends, a paid subscription will be required.

With all the genius working for google, I can’t understand why they can’t even put a date on their weather face or at least an option to do it.

    Same price at jb-Hifi

These make very good digital photo frames if that's a thing you want. The brightness adjusts very well so it always blends into the room.
