This has saved me on more than one occasion away from home. Even if you guys dont get this one, getting a portable car jump starter should be mandatory in your car emergency kit in addition to regular jumper cables.

Was skeptical at first but suprised how well these work. Had an electrical gremlin with my WB Statesman - V8 draining the battery flat. Have since jumped 3x and the unit has only lost 1 battery light. Fired up and going again quicker than making a call to roadside assistance or calling a mate to jump start me.

  • For a completely flat battery on a 4 cyl sedan, are you supposed to keep this attached for 5-10 mins before attempting to start?

Couldn’t get mine to start my car, admittedly I didn’t press the boost button though.

    • I have done the opposite to you, I have to press the boost button to get it started from flat. I haven't tried leaving it for 5-10minutes

      • Did it also fail to start for you if you don’t press the boost button?

    • My dad did this with an old one of mine I had (first generation generic version of these things) and it blew up the portable battery so i would read the instructions carefully.

I've only used this on V8s. On a completely dead battery I just hit boost and start the car, no waiting at all. I think that 4 cylinders would be even easier to start so no waiting required as well.

      • It must have been the boost button then, didn’t see it as it was dark and the button is small and the same colour as the casing

        • +2

On a dead battery it won't start unless you use the boost button.

        • +1

Yep, 100% have to press the boost button.
I'm pretty sure they power cycle on/off if you leave them connected, it won't actually charge your car battery.

    should be renamed to
    COVID Lockdown Vehicle Starter

I'd spend the extra for the 2000A

    • +9

Agree this gives a solid jolt but your nipples will get used to it after a while.

    • i took your advice and just did that with the 2000A for $30 more

    • Yes definitely get the 2000A unit instead of this one, i've had both.

      • It looks like the 2000A unit can't be charged from the car 'cigarette' output, is that a drawback?

  • GOOWEE

  • I've been using the 2000A version quite regularly. Once every few days. I think my car battery is dying…

  • I didn't change my for about 6 months. Wouldn't charge when I went to charge it. Apparently you have to regularly charge these otherwise the battery goes dead permanently. Anyways they gave me a refund at least.

    • Mine barely discharges after 6 months. Would last about a year before it loses one light in my experience, sounds like you got a dud one.

      • Same here, checked the battery after 6 or so months, and still had a sufficient charge. Recharged and put back in the car

  • Do people store these in their cars? Would be a little worried about high temps inside over summer

    • +1

I've got one sitting in the spare wheel well at the moment but take it out in Summer. Generally only keep it in the car if I may need it (eg the car has been sitting for a while and needed a jump start so I'll chuck it in the boot afterwards), not so much for other's emergencies.

  • Where you guys connect the ground point from ur car?

    • +1

Pretty sure you connect it straight to the battery, not on the chassis. The leads are pretty short.

    • +1

any unpainted surface that’s connected to the chassis will do

    • +1

I just go straight to the battery as the cables aren't very long but pretty much any bolt you see in the engine bay that it can reach should be fine

  • Can this be charged by the car 12v socket? the photo shows a 12v socket cable but the description shows it as a output instead. Can anyone confirm?

    • yep got this on the last deal, comes with a 12v option for charging

  • I'm trying to buy 2, can the code only be used once? I have already ordered 1. Thanks

  • +1

Thanks, picked one up and free shipping

I got one and only just used it last week.

I got flagged down on my street from someone asking me to help jump start his car. I mange to use start his car despite no knowledge of how to use it.

  • Took delivery of this product today and it appears to be well designed. The kicker is the instruction manual recommends recharging it every 2 months. How many people are going to forget?

    • Hm, I just got mine and it says every 3 months

  • Back on offer today

  • We need this deal back
