QLD Snap Lockdown - How Long Will It Last?

Queensland has suddenly had snap lockdown with 6 hours notice. It's supposed to be for three days but may last longer.

What's your thoughts? How long will the QLD lockdown last? Will the lockdown end in three days?

    we're screwed

  • People seem to forget COVID spreads like wild fire inside the home. Masks worn in the home will help slow the spread and save lives. Just put a mask on!

    • +3

I wear 3 at home to filter 3x better. Got masks for my dog as well, don't want him catching it.

      • +2

One when you are home alone
Two if you have friends with you
        Three outside to stay alive
Masks are fun, let’s save some lives

      • Your dog could catch it. Animals all over the world are catching it.

        • +1

That's why he wears the mask.

        • good! the one upside

      • I nearly died from wearing too many masks… The air couldn't get through 😂

      • I got mask on front door, so whole house is safu.

  • -3

The delta strain is everywhere now, the lockdown will have to be at least two months to stop “the spread”

From “flattening the curve” to “total elimination” lol…. How the bloody goalposts keep shifting depending on how much people are soiling themselves.

And yet people still not vaccinating and disobeying stay at home isolation orders in the name of William Wallace’s cry of FREEDOM!!

I propose we lockdown Australia completely, abandon the irresponsible expat fruitloops and become THE GREAT FORTRESS OF AUSTRALIA

    Destroy the economy

Show the virus that we mean business and there will not be coexistence!

Take back Australia like in Independence Day!

    RAWR!

    • +1

Melbourne has got theirs right down within a few weeks. Do you prefer Sydney's approach?

  • -1

    simple solution

no-one can enter Australia unless vaccinated

    • Nope the vaccinated still spread it .
Eventually the COVID normal will be masks , separation and sanitation probably with 2 out of 3 people fully vaccinated .

  • I don't understand how Qld expects to get out of lockdown with the way Sydney is handling it.

    • Melbourne has managed to get their cases down. Why do you think QLD can't do the same? I think the public will be motivated thanks to seeing how Sydney has been handling it.

      • +7

The one thing Gladys has done right is motivate all other states and territories NOT to do what NSW did.

      • +1

the difference is Melbourne and brisbane know how to control outbreaks now. NSW have no clue.

        • Short memory.

I do hope you're right about this latest outbreak in Melbourne though, the contagiousness of this variant is scary. I'm expecting the worst for Victoria though.

      • -1

Aren't the recent spikes in Melbourne and Brisbane because of Sydney? So even if they get the cases under control what's to stop it from happening again when they relax restrictions especially with Sydney continually getting worse? Plus this Delta variant is even harder to contain as well

        • +2

This Brisbane outbreaks is from hotel quarantine from QLD not Sydney.

          • @Nanokillaz: Yep and they still haven't figured out the linkage between the two unless I missed an update?

  • +2

This is Delta, it can't be contained due to how its working. No symptoms for the first two infectious days.

It's just a matter of time before all other states in Australia flare up to hundreds of cases. All it takes is for a single case to fly under the radar for over a week, its just luck that someone gets tested and brings it to light or not.

  • +1

I don't know what they are doing with the real crappy testing capacity that they have .
Its not like they didn't have any warning .

  • -1

    looks like QLD is toast

    • Why do you say that? Still no random community cases found right? I didn't see the conference today. So long as the new cases are all clearly linked and already in quarantine, then it should be straight forward from here to get back to 0. If we start seeing randoms in the community then we are in some trouble.

      • -1

        There are missing links.

        • +2

If they were asymptomatic they may never be found. But if we aren't seeing any community cases outside these specific outbreaks, and the contact tracers have done their job we should be seeing the new cases already in quarantine. If that's all we're seeing it's extremely positive.

    • -1

      looks like QLD is toast

      Nope…. Jumped in early…

      • +3

nah we will be right Queenslander's actually do the right thing.

  • -1

not surprised with this outcome seeing how oblivious and careless people are in Brisbane.

    • Sunshine State - literally no virus can survive.

QLD Snap Lockdown - How Long Will It Last?

    Sunday

  • -3

I would say it would be a very short lock down because Queenslanders aren't idiots unlike NSW (sydney people specifically) We all comply with the rules and cooperate.

Queensland is the best at containing outbreaks, NSW have just been lucky untill now. NSW state govenment has always been incompetent, I know this because I used to live there before I had enough of sydney people and moved back to Brisbane.

      21 people arrested by police

Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said officers had to undertake the highest level of enforcement over the past 24 hours, since the pandemic began, issuing 70 infringement notices and arresting 21 people.

      https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-03/qld-coronavirus-lockd…

      Yeah, right.

      • +1

if you look at it closely most of those people are from NSW.

        • -1

This is what happens when you look closely….

"I'm sorry to say that the types of offences we're seeing are exactly the same ones that we saw all the way through," he said.

"People failing to carry masks and refusing to put them on when given the opportunity to do.

"People being out and about in the lockdown when they don't have an exempt purpose to do that, no valid reason to do that."

          (Same link).

          • +1

@Eeples: unlike you I did some digging found actually names and looked up there facebook pages to see where they were before they moved to QLD. Unfortinatlly NSW trash comes to QLD all the time.

            • +2

              @kungfuman: Yes.
Welcome back to Queensland from NSW.

            • @kungfuman: Hey where did you find this info? Quite keen to have a look!

            • +2

              @kungfuman:

did some digging found actually names and looked up there facebook pages to see where they were

Um… What? Why? Seems a little excessive.

  • +4

The current NSW lockdown is a colossal failure. It should be the benchmark that all future government failures should be measured against. What should have been a 3 day snap lockdown at the beginning of the outbreak is most likely going to be at least 3 or 4 months of lockdown, due to nothing but sheer incompetence and mismanagement!

  • +5

I think once everyone in Australia has had a chance to be vaccinated lockdowns should no longer be used as a means to control the number of cases since we are just prolonging the inevitable and it isn't feasible for the government to keep spending in such a way. I think both pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers would agree that at a certain point if you choose not to be vaccinated then you should face the consequences of your action.

    • +6

All adults already have the chance to get vaccinated today if they wanted to but the whole country is being held hostage by people waiting for a different brand of vaccine to come along.

    • -1

No vaccines are even approved for use by those under 12 yet, so we're a while away from just opening up again.

Eventually, once everyone has had a reasonable chance to be vaccinated we will open up, but that could be a while away. Hopefully the delta specific boosters can fix the issues of breakthrough cases.

  • I'm from Adelaide and was hoping to potentially have a short 6 day holiday on the Gold Coast in mid September. Who thinks I should just cancel my leave now?

    • You might actually be okay, depending what happens in the next week. I’d give it another few days to a week before canceling leave, depending on your workplace policies. You then of course run the risk of getting stuck if anything happens whilst you’re away, with lockdowns having shorter and shorter notice periods each time.

    • In Melbourne, we've learned to keep zero expectations regarding holidays and trips in general. I think it's wise to assume that interstate trips won't happen in NSW, QLD or VIC, in the next months.

If you are an optimistic, make sure you book full refundable hotels and flight tickets because the chances of having a trip cancelled these days is certainly more than 50% for at least the next three months, and until the population is vaccinated.

I've credits with hotels, Qantas, Virgin, and I have no idea when I will be able to use them.

Regarding your leave, is there any problem if you wait to make a decision?

Also, you might consider using your leave and travel somewhere in SA instead of the Gold Coast. You might need and deserve a break anyway, and if you cancel your plans every time there is uncertainty you might soon see yourself working for 12 months without a single break, which could affect your mental health.

      • My mental health couldn't get much worse believe me - that's already at the bottom of the trash pile as is.

I've actually considered going elsewhere but my wife is pretty keen to go to the Gold Coast because she's never been and wants to do the theme parks before we start a family.

No issue with cancelling my leave if I can't go on the trip. I think I'll probably just wait a maximum of another probably 3 weeks and see what transpires otherwise we'll just give up and sink the money we were intending on using for the trip into paying off the solar system we had installed today.

  • Well 15 new cases outside isolation today… not looking good, not looking good at all.

    • No… 15 community cases outside hotel quarantine, but all but one were in home isolation for their entire infectious period. So it's actually fantastic news.

EDIT: I might be wrong about this… different outlets are reporting different numbers

      • +1

"The good news, though, is of those 16 new cases related to the Indooroopilly Delta outbreak, two were in quarantine for their entire infectious period, one had one day out in the community. So that was during the lockdown period. So hopefully no-one else was out there interacting with them. Then another person for two days, another person for three days. Then one person for five days. So there will be more exposure venues going up on our website."

        Source: ABC News

Considering that was from 51,000 tests, i wouldn't say that's bad news. To expect any less would be wishing too much.

        • of those 16 new cases related to the Indooroopilly Delta outbreak, two were in quarantine for their entire infectious period

So the other 14 weren't - plus the one other unconnected case with that pilot.

      • Covidlive shows 5 confirmed outside isolation and 10 more 'under investigation' - ie not confirmed as being in isolation.

        https://covidlive.com.au/report/daily-wild-cases/qld

So lockdown will certainly be extended now, hopefully the next few days look better, fingers crossed.

        • 19 cases today so far according to https://covidlive.com.au/cases

          • @c64: Not 'wild' cases though, two were in hotel quarantine and two fully isolated while infectious.

        • Yeah, I always figured it was going to be extended another week (14 days seems to be the minimum if there's an actual outbreak) so my feelings on the numbers are presuming that. I don't think 1 week to get on top of it was ever doable…

          • @NigelTufnel: Yeah one week is only if they got lucky and managed to get all the secondary cases (ie all close contacts) into isolation before any were infectious.

  • Ask your loony CHO.

Looks like it may depend on the amount of outdoor furniture being bought…

  • +2

it's amazing the number of people i've seen still walking around without masks

    • QLD is too tropical for masks

      • +1

not too hot in brisbane. i am cycling around double masked so it should not be a problem for people walking

        • +3

i am cycling around double masked

I can't tell if this is satire anymore?

            • @c64: Do people even fully read what these "studies" entail?

This CDC study compared wearing no mask, a poorly fitted surgical mask, cloth-only mask and double-masking in a simulation of respiratory droplets between two people – a source and a receiver.

So, they didn't test "double masking" against the "well fitted surgical mask" they used in the double mask tests. Having a half reasonable idea about the efficacy of completely unrated and unregulated cloth masks, and the efficacy of surgical masks, I can't help but think it's the "well fitting surgical mask" that's actually the effective thing here.

              Further:

As well, the study did not compare two surgical masks or two cloth masks, and the study looked at only one type of cloth mask, though there are many types of mask on the market

              • @brendanm: the cdc report does test tight fitting surgical masks

it mentions in one experiment the % of blocked particles for loose (unknotted) medical mask is 56.1%, cloth mask alone is 51.4%, tight (knotted & tucked) medical mask 77.0% and combination of cloth over medical mask is 85.4%

when source only is wearing a double mask or tight medical mask, cumulative exposure to unmasked receiver is reduced by 82.2% and 62.9% respectively

when source is unmasked and receiver is wearing a double mask or tight medical mask, cumulative exposure to receiver is reduced by 83.0% and 64.5% respectively

when both source & receiver are wearing double mask or tight medical mask, cumulative exposure is reduced by 96.4% and 95.9% respectively

yes, i'm sure the study has limitations but the bottom line is the tighter fitting the mask the better. i think most people you are likely to encounter would fall in to the loosely fitted medical mask or cloth mask.

i'll stick with my double masking

                • @c64:

i'll stick with my double masking

                  Each to their own.

Put her in a jail cell for the two weeks instead.

  • Can anyone enlighten me on how the testing is done and collated each day!

For example today's announcement was 51000 tests completed yesterday with 19 positive cases. Yet when testing is done it can take unto 48hrs to get a result. I had a test done a couple of months ago and it took about 36hrs to get the results back, and this was not during a lockdown or any period of high testing rates.

So would it be safe to say the results they are announcing do not correlate with the actual testing numbers the day before? and are in fact from 24-48 hours prior.

    • I think you are correct that the count is the number of laboratory tests completed, rather than the number of "dont worry, it's self guiding" tests taken.
Then the number of those tests that returned positive.

    • I got tested on Tuesday morning and had a text with my results by 9am Wednesday morning.

Negative which was good 🙂 just had a headache and sore throat so figured I'd join the testing swarm 💕

  • -2

Well, if you own a business is giving a free $5K injection. Fudge some numbers, get free cash! If you're an employee of your own PTY LTD company you could probably double dip and get relief from reduced work hours due to lockdown too. It's a win-win.

    • Interesting. An example of corporate welfare?

    QLD is toast

    • Are you going to say this everyday? 16 local cases, only 4 infectious in the community for a combined total of 5 days. In what way is that bad news less than a week into lockdown?

    Victory in Alberta!

    For now …anyway.

    For now… great news.

    https://www.facebook.com/FansOfPatKing/videos/33590276818570…

Patrick King represented himself in court after being fined 1200 dollars for protesting against the Covid-Hoax, he slew the beast and emerged victoriously. He issued a subpoena to the Provincial Health Minister for proof that the so-called Covid-19 Virus exists, and they were forced to admit that they had no evidence whatsoever. The virus has never been isolated, and thus the government had no legal grounds to impose any of the punishing restrictions they have inflicted on society. Since this shocking confession came to light, the Province has since rescinded all Covid-Restrictions and now officially treats Covid-19 as nothing more than the mild flu! WE WON

King has shown the template to be followed WORLDWIDE. This is what can happen when you are not represented by a BAR (British Accredited Registry) Lawyer whose first obligation is to the Corrupted Courts and not their client.

    • +2

Alberta is removing restrictions because Canada is leading the OECD in vaccine uptake, not because of the government giving on to some loonie consistency theorist.

The template to be followed is to get people vaccinated, not fighting stupid court cases.

      • +1

        Sure Jan. lols

        • Interesting I can’t find anything about the case apart from in a whole bunch of conspiracy sites.

          • @try2bhelpful: Because every 'legitimate' media outlet and government source is part of the conspiracy maaan!
Facebook posts are the true source of truth.
            /s

          • @try2bhelpful: Well I'm genuinely shocked at that!

You mean the media won't report on a court case that has major implications for all western government and their current reign of terror?

Here's the court transcript instead. https://awakening.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/0…

Apparently there is more to come as in the end he was still found guilty on a technicality but the main point was he has now got into the public record in a court of the law that the whole basis for the covid scam was a total lie (imo).

            • +1

@EightImmortals: Can you tell me where in that it shows covid was a lie? I assume you've read it all.

I see his request and then about 5 pages of the accused having to be explained how the court works… And then him cross examining witnesses.

From my understanding they didn't prove covid existed in humans because it wasn't relevant to whether he had defied the regulations, and weren't going to waste their time on it. The court agreed, and still find him guilty.

              • @NigelTufnel: Way to miss the point champ. :)

                • +1

@EightImmortals: Then enlighten me on the 'point', bud. :-)

                  • @NigelTufnel: How about you read the post you replied to? You know, look at the part where I wrote "…but the main point…." :)

                    • @EightImmortals: And I tried to ask where in that document it showed that he "got into the public record in a court of the law that the whole basis for the covid scam was a total lie (imo)" because that's not what I see in that transcript.

But I think you need to be a little crazy to see what crazy sees.

If I ever get a speeding ticket, I should go to court and argue that speed limits shouldn't exist because time is relative, and ask them to provide proof that is not.
I'm sure I'll be laughed out of court like this clown.

              • @NigelTufnel: Yes that was the first court sitting transcript only, the subsequent transcripts will be released shortly (apparently) but the gist of what happened after that first sitting is a follows.

"Three days later a police officer showed up at Patrick’s home to notify Patrick his court case was cancelled. Patrick called the court house and got it re-scheduled. Subsequently, Patrick was subpoenaed by Deena Hinsha’s lawyers requesting Patrick appear in court in less than 24 hours. This is called ‘procedural violation’. You cannot serve a subpoena less than 24 hours before court time.

Patrick showed up in court the next day and called ‘procedural violation’ to which the judge agreed. Patrick requested adjournment that was declined. Patrick reiterated this was procedural violation at which point Deena Hinshaw’s lawyer spoke up and said “Well your honor, Mr. King is requesting evidence we cannot get”.

CMOH Has No Material Evidence … to provide Mr. King for his defence, which basically means everything Patrick requested in Schedule A (in the transcript I posted. Page 3-4) i.e. ‘isolation’ of the SARS-COV 2 virus that needs to be 100% isolated in order to base scientific facts on these public health acts, you don’t have material evidence for this, and they said “No.”

Patrick reiterated to the judge, “Your Honor, just for the record. I want it to be on the record duly noted that the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Alberta does not have the material evidence I request to which the judge responded “Yes, they did say that”.

Patrick returned to court July 24.21 where Attorney General prosecutors from Ottawa were present in the court room.

The statement read ‘Her Majesty the Queen Vs. Patrick King.’ The accuser is now the Queen and Patrick gets to address his accuser.

07:00 mins Patrick reiterated that the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Alberta, Ms. Deena Hinshaw, and Alberta Health Services, and the Alberta provincial government do not have the material evidence he requested for the isolation of SARS-COV2. Jaws dropped on both the court stenographer and clerk.

I'll post those transcripts when they are made available if anyone cares. :)

                • @EightImmortals:

I'll post those transcripts when they are made available if anyone cares. :)

I'm interested. Not because I think in any way covid is a hoax or that this would prove that. But I'm interested.

                  • +1

@NigelTufnel: This is 100% typical behaviour of the 'sovcit' movement. Misrepresenting some absolute nonsense as a smoking gun.

The Canadian authorities are under no obligation to provide him with unlimited amount of evidence he desires to mount a defence. He can't just subpoena everyone and anything, it needs to be relevant to his case, and an isolated sample of covid is not. The fact they didn't provide an isolated sample of covid to some hick who clearly doesn't understand court process proves absolutely nothing except that he is a colossal moron.

                    • +1

@downbythecreek: It is the sort of nonsense that Trump tried to pull in an attempt to thwart democracy in the last election. Case after case thrown out of court and then they try to claim some technical “wins” or that the Judges were in on it; which is bizarre as a bunch of them were appointed by the GOP.

That every world Government would decide to be “in” on this COVID hoax is beyond belief. It would be interesting to follow the “money” on these conspiracy sites. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Russia or China stirring up the gullible.
