      • if i cancel the booking and get refund, won't amex deduct points earned and claw back the sign up bonus?

        • +1

point for spend yes, bonus points no.

  • Sorry I have been using a credit card for a while with annual fee of $95. If I apply for this credit card and achieve minimum spend and cancel it say in 11 month and get a new card (because of huge annual fee) Will it have any impact on credit rating ?

  • Got the card maybe 2 weeks ago, racked up $3k spend, got the 150k points in my account already.

What has everyone used their bonus points for? Seems like a no brainer to use it to pay off a transaction, seems like 150k points is equivalent to a $750 credit off a transaction value. I'm not chasing points with airlines at the moment and redeeming a $750 gift card vs. paying off a transaction doesn't seem ideal.. unless there is something with better value I've missed to use the points on?

    • With David Jones Amex cards, 150k points would be $1000. But I am not sure if that's the same conversion in case of Amex Explorer. You might want to check on this once.
I've also signed up for this deal and I've been charged an annual membership fee of $395 in my first statement. Was this the case with you as well? And have they credited back this amount to you, now that you have crossed the $3k spend and received 150k points as well?

      • Just had a look, it shows 'David Jones Shop with Points' is 20k points = $100… so its the same ratio really.

With the annual fee, strangely I haven't received a statement yet but it shows 'WELCOME BONUS -$395' in my transactions and has pumped up mt credit available on the card by $395, so I assume next statement will be a charge of $395 to cancel it out to $0.

          Thank you. Appreciate the info.

          • @AstonSingh: Also got my first statement and got charged the $395 membership fee. Haven't hit 3k spend yet, so I am assuming the $395 cash back which is supposed to cancel the fee is only applied after hitting the spending threshold.

            • @onion futures: Thanks for letting me know. And yes, ideally it should be that way. The only thing is we won't know until we cross the 3k mark and see the credit in our account. Makes me a bit nervous cause that's a substantial amount. I'll keep you posted.

              • @AstonSingh: I messaged OP and got confirmation that the cash back and bonus points are both triggered by the 3k spend.

                • @onion futures: I've hit the 3k spend and got the bonus points but no $395 credit. they have charged the annual fee though.

                  • @[Deactivated]: got the credit the next day

                    • @[Deactivated]: same - got the bonus points then credit shortly thereafter

                      • @onion futures: Party time! So what are you guys planning to do with these bonus points?

                        • @AstonSingh: i just used it for account credit

                          • @[Deactivated]: Ahh yes. That would be ideal. Got the annual fee credit as well.
This was really a sweet deal from Amex.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Just what I wanted to hear. I think bonus points came through yesterday or today so hopefully annual fee credit should be next. Fingers crossed!
