I would not switch to Telstra NBN. It is not worth $100…

It is like agreeing to torture yourself indefinitely for $100…

      Good deal for masochists perhaps?

When You Switch to Telstra nbn

    Ha ha…

    Not on your life….

    Worst customer service EVER !!!

Telstra didn't even bother to call in on a meeting requested by the TIO… They couldn't be bothered…

    Choose reliable nbn

Yep, like Aussie Broadband or Superloop

And if you have a problem, you don't have to talk to a robot app or someone in an overseas call center…

    • You may have never yet been more correct.

$90/month for 50Mbps up? That’s a hard pass from me. Also seems to force you to use their modem - which is free if you stay for 24 months or if you leave within 24 months pay out the modem ($9/mth for every month remaining in the first 24 mths).

Yeah nah. Way better providers out there for cheaper.

I don't get their plan to be honest. I have a few of those modems lying around that I haven't paid anything for either.

They keep sending me one every time I apply for ADSL; takes about 2 months for them to figure out i live 6km from the exchange and can't get it and get 4g at full speeds during the wait.

Once they even sent me 2x modems; I had dual 4G @ about 30Mbit/sec for 2 months until they figured it out.

I don't know why they expect customers to pay for the modem now?

Edit: Takes them 2 months as I ask for a phone line as well; but they won't cancel the install until they know you don't want the phone line. So it sits in their limbo for 2 months +/-. Good way to get free 4g…

Looking at that $306 minimum fee:

    • $90 per month for service (Unlimited data @ 50/20)
    • $99 connection (fee waived if you sign up online)
    • $216 modem fee (reduces $9 per month, ie free after 24 months)

If there was a way to signup online WITHOUT the stupid modem, this seems an average deal.
This plan is comparable to the $60 per month offers on here. If you plan to stay 4 months or longer, it might not be worth going with another provider.

    • Wish they would use the correct term. Router (for most NBN connections) does not equal to a modem.

      • for most NBN connections

        That's VDSL, so, needs a modem…

While I am generally happy with Telstra - 100/40 plan, getting around 112Mbps download, 38Mbps upload consistently during the day/evening/night - this deal is not great.
You can negotiate 100/40 for the same price ($90).
The advantage of going with Telstra is the 4G backup.

    • The advantage of going with Telstra is the 4G backup.

Think of how much Extra you are paying over the year and how much you use the 4G backup… Very expensive insurance…

      • Just cutover from Telstra HFC to Telstra NBN 100/20 at $80 p/m, (discount only for 12 months), which isn't too bad

Peak hour download speeds are at 105Mbps which is a little less than Telstra HFC but still more than what I was expecting.

Yeah you can get cheaper but I wouldn't expect the same speeds.

  • I recently sold my telecommunications business. Did very well, thanks to Telstra.
Almost everyday I was receiving calls from Telstra business customers begging for help.

A guy in Melbourne waited 7 months to get their services connected with Telstra, we got it done in under a week.

I was reselling ABB, never had a single issue.

Agreed. I think I aged a good 10 years after having to deal with Telstra regarding HFC dropouts.

Describing them as useless is being generous.

  • Here is my experience with Telstra NBN on the 50Mb/s plan:
-Was getting a period where websites and downloads would start off fast, and then slow down to 0.4Mb/s. An 11Mb image took 2 hours to load.
-Tried to troubleshoot with Telstra - you cannot call them, the only way you can contact them is through the chat messaging service on the Telstra app. Started their chat service, dropped them a message, you get met by an auto-bot and then a Telstra IT guy will get to you when they're next available. Waited the whole day.
-Finally got a message from the Telstra IT guy. I was directed to a Telstra speed test, which only tests for a few seconds - it found my internet speed to be '45Mb/s'. Explained to them that downloads always start off fast, and that if the test had gone on for a bit longer, you would find that the speed drops dramatically. Also let them know that technically, I'm paying for 50, but only getting '45', isn't this a problem?
-Was told that 'you're actually getting a faster speed than what you've paid for, 45Mb/s is very good for the 50Mb/s tier, the 50Mb/s plan means that the max speed is 50, but this doesn't mean that we guarantee you 50Mb/s all the time due to other people sharing your NBN line.'
-They said they would run a few tests and change a few settings to help with my internet speed, said try it out. I tried it, it did not fix my problem.
-Got told 'this is as fast as it gets, if you want a faster speed, you'll need to upgrade to the higher tier'.

As you can see, Telstra help was useless. Since then, I started doing my own troubleshooting on the internet, where I found ISPs like Telstra will purposely reduce your speed to ease network congestion, because this is cheaper than doing the right thing, which is paying for more bandwidth. This is called 'throttling'. Changed to the Google DNS, started using a VPN and all of my speed issues instantly vanished.

So not only was Telstra purposely reducing my speed, they had the gall to say that there was nothing they could do about it. Instead of fixing the problem, they tried to upsale. Take this into account before you change to Telstra NBN.
