    I would buy this instead

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234130529360?hash=item3683445c50…

Quadro K2200 ain't great, but still capable of some games. Plus it has the PSU for bigger and better things.

I would buy one, but I have no idea what I would do with it……

    • +1

Yup another good option that I already use. Unfortunately it can't be linked as a deal as it doesn't meet the quantity criteria.

      • Surprised that workventure did a listing exceeding 10 units.

They usually do handful, then relist after selling the batch.

    • I would buy one, but I have no idea what I would do with it……

      NAS, HTPC, home automation, homelab..
Or if you want to be crafty, slap in a video card with a GT in its name, an acrylic side panel and some RGB lights then flip it as a "gaming PC" LOL

    • I buy ex government IT desktops for the home. I have one set up as Freenas which runs my home's smart home system, Plex Server, Linux distro downloader and our family collection of family photos that we take with our phones and backup to this machine instead of the cloud. My other desktop runs the house's Network Video Recorder software that monitors the various IPcams around the house and records when movement is detected. Quite handy as we can keep it local and out of the cloud as well as not being locked into a specific eco system when it comes to buying additional cameras.

      • May I ask what IPcams you use?

        • I must say im quite a fan of the bullet IMOU POE cams. Pretty good quality for the price. I dont use the software and instead use Tiny IP cam app. That way I can block the cams access to the internet and only use the app when im at home on the wifi. When I want to see the cams when im out of the house, I can look at them through remote access to my Home Assistant server.

With some IPcams, they have a vulnerability where people can remotely access them through the default software. Hence why I block their access to the internet and only access them through my private server.

          • @nedski: Thanks for the tip.
I've previously used Wyze but it wants the internet as you say.
From memory I tried rtsp , but it was unstable.
I can only do wifi, so that limits me a bit.

            • @RecklessMonkeys: They have wifi models.

And I run it via RTSP.

            • @RecklessMonkeys: Also if it wants the internet, try a different app, give Tiny IP Cam app a go (They have a free version). If that works, get the pro version, block internet access to the cameras.

              • @nedski: I think it's a question of the firmware on the camera.
It pings the cloud like a heartbeat and stops working if it can't ping.

I would buy one, but I have no idea what I would do with it……

      The OzBargain motto.

    • Couldn't make up my mind and now it's gone, spewing.

I really needed this, the K2200 to pair with my 5900X to make do whilst my 3070 is mining.

I also needed the PC to replace my Pi 4 to serve to run Docker->HASS/Plex/Sonarr/Radarr/Jackett etc. …

      • Relax, they probably have more. Just keep an eye on their page, they only put a handful up at a time.

        • without the 15% off though.

  • Will this run Windows 11?

    • +5

In its current stage? It sure can fast eddie. If the current TPM requirements stay then you might need a 6th gen EliteDesk 800 G2 instead.

      • Seems like the current TPM requirement might not drop after all.

      • -1

I thought it was 8th gen intel or newer

        • +1

That's the old requirements iirc. TPM 2.0 recommended and TPM 1.2 supported. 6th gen has TPM 2.0.

          • @Clear: Ah ok. Good to hear more computers will be compatible with Windows 11

          • @Clear: G2 comes with TPM 1.2 and is flash upgradable to TPM 2.0

      • Looks good but not even 1 USB C port

        • +3

Back then you wouldn't find USB-C on anything really. In HP models it was typically the HP EliteDesk Mini's and then then just Gen 1 data transfer. 8th gen and above USB-C became more standard for HP.

      • +1

G2 also supports OS boot from M.2 in PCI-e adapter. No need for HDD or SSD. Getting 2400MB/s sequential read and 1750 MB/s sequential write using WD SN550 in UGreen adapter.

    • Why would you want to?

        Major update to minesweeper….

Perfect for my entry level unRAID build?

    • You're going to be limited with how many HDDs you can have inside it. This is a better alternative as it has 5 SATA ports and 2 3.5" bays inside already.

      • What's the noise level of the PSU fan on these HP Z230 Tower compared to the HP Elitedesk. Use case is NAS server running either Xpenology w/ NextCloud or Openmediavault w/ NextCloud. Obviously not as low as Synology/QNAP/Terramaster but different performance and price levels. Thanks Clear

        • I'd say it's fairly quiet as there's a single exhaust fan on the rear. Mine is a Foxconn PVA092G12H 92mm fan and that goes up to 3700rpm so it certainly pushes out a lot of air. There is second fan header that's designed to be used with a special non-standard mount for a front fan but I don't have that.

          • @Clear: Thanks for the details. I think these are fairly quiet when idle or light load compared to no brand PSU and cases. I like the tower cases for expansion flexibility but also like the small form factor of the elite desk to rival off the shelves brand name NAS

    • As long as you can get a minimum of 2 hard drives. I'd suggest having a minimum 250GB SSD for cache.

    • +1

I have this exact same PC setup as a NAS (running Windows though, because I use it for few other things as well).
There are a total of 3 SATA ports, I have one SSD for the OS and two 3.5" HDDs running in RAID 1 for storage.
There is enough space to put 2 x 3.5” HDDs and a SSD without removing the optical drive (from what I recall I had to remove some plastic bracket to make space), but you can probably squeeze in one more disk if you remove the DVD drive, but then you'd need to add another SATA port via a PCIe RAID card or something .

Collected mine from a local eWaste recycler for $120 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD a few months ago.

    • Possible, but will need a hba card for extra sata port if you want add more hdds

  • +3

I anyone is curious, I have the same hardware spec (4460) in a Dell and can confirm it runs Windows 10 extremely well for office type work and media playback.

I wouldn’t use it as a basis for a gaming machine though.

It is also not a good candidate for Windows 11 for a variety of reasons, TPM, processor and just age.

  • 7 years old?

  • anything with a ssd for home office email, documents usage.?

    • +3

Yes buy this and swap out the HDD.

      • +2

You can also fit an SSD without removing the HDD, I can confirm it all fits.

  • find this… too small fit extra HDDs, otherwise good nas

  • Wow Ebay Plus appears to have become quite the darling on Ozbargain

    • Well yes and a lot better than Amazon which is useless for items like these.

      • Does Amazon even sell refurbished desktops with 6 year old CPUs?

        • Yes, it's called Amazon Renewed

  • I got this deal last time from same seller and it came with an i5 4690 instead of the 4590, pleasant surprise.
Super responsive for everyday tasks, devil's canyon was an absolute beast back in the day.

  • How does the i5 in this PC compare to one on HP EliteDesk 800 35W G2 Desktop Mini PC (i5 6th Gen 6500T)?

My work are selling to staff for $100 each, I thought it was a great deal!

    https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/hp-elitedesk-800-g2-busi…

    • +3

The i5 in this is faster and has more threads compared to the 6500T. Though the i5-6500T is more future proof in that it has TPM 2.0 so at this stage it should be compatible with the Windows 11 final release, unless the requirements change again.

In terms of hardware you're obviously losing the flexibility in adding additional storage, a video card etc. in the mini. It does have a 2.5" SATA slot and an M.2 NVMe SSD slot, as well as DDR4 RAM so that's a bonus. Plenty of USB 3.0 ports, USB Type-C (data transfer only I think?) and depending on the configuration 2 DisplayPorts and potentially a 3rd or VGA.

If you're not planning on doing gaming then it's an excellent choice for home use.

      • Thank so much for the detailed response! I think you're spot on with all the specs!

I was using it at work until they gave me a laptop. USB Type C is indeed for data transfer only. Also spot on with 2 displayports and 1 vga as we have dual screens setup at work.

No gaming and since it only uses 35w, will use it as a media player plus to download stuff :)

Love this forum, so many people take the time to help each other!

        • +1

I quite literally have hundreds of various HP business desktops new and old stacked up near me right now ;) I love these ProDesk/EliteDesk as they're very capable and with so many of them being retired now it's a good time to buy.

  • I suppose these would be alright for a Big Sur Hackintosh …

  • What low profile graphics card can this support?

    • For NVIDIA you can pretty much go up to a GTX 1650. GT 1030, GTX 1050/ti are fine too.

      • -2

Nah, it only supports 1030, because its the only one that you can actually buy at a reasonable price.

        • I bought a GTX 1050 Ti on eBay for $150 before COVID hit thinking I got ripped off. Could probably sell it for $300 now.
