      This guy knows his meat.

I'm Sydney based and I personally buy from East Blaxland Butchery, Meat Emporium Elanora Heights, Meat Emporium Alexadria (when it's on sale). Bought some MBS9 scotch fillet from EBB just before lockdown for $95/kg

There's also a meat dealer on instagram that goes by nice2_meatyou that I want to buy off but I haven't got around to it yet. His prices look great and everyone I know who have bought from him have only said positive things.

Being an Ozbargainer, I would recommend Rump Cap. South Americans love it but it's not very popular here, so it's cheap. Slice it up yourself and enjoy the flavour

  • Cant envision wagyu freezing well? Or does it

    • +2

Good for making mince and freezing

      • Thats some damn expensive mince! But can see your point

        • Butcher told me a lot of our higher quality beef is exported to US for mince
Their dollar is so much better that it is cheaper for them to mince up our higher quality beef.
I'm going to take a hunch and say that they prefer their American steak beef over ours even if it may be better quality

          • @kickmiass: Not sure about mincing, but we definitely do ship alot of beef over to the USA, especially Wagyu.

          • @kickmiass: It's also a timing thing. A high grade steak it's not ideal to be killing, processing, freezing, shipping for 2 months, then defrosting and butchering before cooking 5 days later.

    • +2

I buy these specials all the time, freezes very well as they're vacuum sealed. I've eaten them a year later and still good.

    • +1

Freezes fine for me. I couldn't eat 3kg without freezing.
Wouldn't leave it in there too though.

      • I couldn't eat 3kg without freezing.

        You're not trying hard enough.

    • Sounds blasphemous

  • +1

is this pet suitable if I mince it? or should I stay with my aldi budget rump?

    • +3

Absolutely not! You have to mix it with single malt 25yo lowland scotch first. Most vets recommend Macallan 175 anniversary edition with can be easily picked up for 119k a dozen. To be extra safe blend in some gold leaf and saffron.

      • +1

I cannot overstate the value of gold leaf in a dog's diet.

If you're out walking your dog at night, the gold that's trapped in your dog's recently-dropped forbidden truffle will shimmer in the moonlight. That makes it easier to find and safely collect/responsibly dispose of.

  • Good question. How long does this last in the fridge if not frozen? If frozen does it ruin the taste/texture?

    • I regularly freeze my Wagyu after buying a batch (not from these guys) and it is fine to freeze. I wouldn't be trying to defrost in the microwave though.

  • +4

I have ordered from Online Butchers before (wagyu scotch sale) and the quality was not good. Definitely not MBS 8-9 and the RRP is ridiculous, just to make it appear to be a bargain, but it really isn't.

    • +1

Same here. Their last batch was horrible.

    • This is one of the first valuable comments in here regarding the product.

    • can confirm last batch was horrible. The batch before that was good though

  • +5

    Be careful with this mob.

They are not consistent with the MB rating and the last MB8 scotch I ordered was very very disappointing. Regretted my order.

Even the black Angus from my regular butcher were better.

    • +1

The actual product doesn't look anything like the full marbled picture.

  • Extremely cheap compared to Kobe A5 Wagyu beef

    • +3

Extremely different too. Especially with the quality from this butcher.

Not many people know this, but not all MB8 are the same. An MB8 from one butcher could be very different to MB8 from a reputable butcher.

The meat is only graded from one particular section of the animal, and the rest of the cuts becomes that same grading.

    • Kobe beef is on another level! Pure luxury.

      • +2

        More enjoyable in japan though

    • +1

I'd take the Kobe A5 wagyu any time. Looking at the marbling on this, it's only slightly better than the usual fare. Australian wagyu grading like another commentator mentioned, should be taken with a grain of salt.

  • Was much better deals a few months back. I was buying wagyu striploin mb5 at $22/kg in Brisbane.

  • Anyway I tried to order ran in to p/w difficulties , didn't get new p/w so I'm out .

  • Online Butchers aka Tip Top Meats

  • How is this price compare to those selling in Costco?

  • There's no way this thing costs this much I pay $80 m9 kilo in Sydney scotch fillet

    • +6

where do you pay that? i find that hard to believe, going rate for high quality real m9 is just over double that

    • +4

I think you got jv's version : Just get some cheap steak from Coles and put a tablespoon of lard in your mouth. You'll get the same 'mouth feel'

    • I'd love to see where you get $80 mbs9 scotch fillet in Sydney too. Because I'd buy it

      • Kahil Meats Bass Hill

        Jacks Creek

  • +1

OOS? You guys are so $$$ in lockdowns.

    • That's only half of the pay from centrelink.

      • +1

don't forget the cash in hand jobs and subsidized housing and the list goes on. some even drive high end cars.lol

  • +1

the Striploin is back in stock now

          Edit: works now

  • +1

Here is how the MB7 scotch looked from my friend who ordered recently. We swore off ordering from this mob. Seriously wasted our money.

    https://ibb.co/MGL88PF

    • +2

      That looks like MBS 4-5..

      • Yeah, absolutely. Like I mentioned, the black Angus (Black Onyx) I get is way better!

The texture was really strange too. Very chewy and spongy bite. Never had wagyu like that before. Not $30 / 300g quality for sure.

        • maybe try Osawa/WagyuBeefSydney, see my comment here

Skip the Angus striploin, it's a nice cut but not as meaty.

I've only tried the striploins so far, yet to try the cube roll/chuck eyes

          • +1

            @cwongtech: Yeah, osawa is decent!
Wagyu ya in QLD is pretty darn good too if you are up north. They currently have Kagoshima A5 rib cap for $150/kg. BMS12! Next level stuff for only a little more than this BS that's "MB7+" but worse than black Angus.

Or if you don't mind frozen, they've got 220g A5, yakiniku sliced for only $27. That's about the same price as Onlime butcher/ tip top butcher, but the real deal - Japanese A5!

    • It looks… no diff from an Aldi cut. This is really dodgy

      • Classical you should join the other Keyboard Expert on this thread hehe :)

        • If you're referring to me, I'm not a keyboard expert

I've added more evidence to what I saw and ordered, including the steaks that arrived

Just a frugal ozbargainer trying to get the best value out of my food..

        • @popsiee I haven't bought from them, but I'm going by what the other users here have shared pics of. They look no better than Aldi's…. yuck.

      • +1

I'm gonna back this up. Because I have legitimately bought Aldi scotch that looked just like it.

        https://ibb.co/6N0zYh2

I bought it because I was suprised that Aldi had meat that looked so well marbled.

    • I didn't bother taking a pic from my last deal bought from them but it definitely passed the grading .

Hopefully some pics from this deal appear here .

    • +1

      yikes, that looks like garbage

  • +1

I'd say this is regular price, not a deal in my perspective

  • Is this real wagyu?

    • Yes. Real wagyu is raised in Australia and the USA.

Australia has more full blood stuff compared to the USA.

No, it is not as marbled as the A5 Japanese stuff, but it is still (usually) very well marbled.
