R5 3500U is not very good processor, even for the given price it is not a bargain in my opinion - just a cheap machine for a reasonable price

    • It's a decent upgrade for my wife ;) She currently has the Apple Mac Book Pro from 2011

      • +2

Yeah, probably will be a bit better than Mac from 2011

        • Just A bit…

          • @wouldyou: Actually depends on use case scenario. Probably won't be much better for word processors :) but for gaming, CAD, programming etc. much better.

    • +1

It's decent when you have good RAM. Outperforms the i5 8250u, which isn't terrible either

  • +2

Was $650 a couple of months ago.

    • +11

yeah but my time machine isn't working :( and that deal has come and gone

      • +6

let's keep an eye out for the next time machine deal.

    • Now you can get it for $654… 👀

      Dang haha

  • Ryzen 5 in this process is equivalent to which intel processor in terms?

  • if 17" i'll bite it
    (thats what he said)

    • then it becomes a aircraft landing pad haha just use external display ?

  • +1

If you're ok with the cpu then yeah.

I think for some it'll be a hard buy given the two gen old cpu.

I'm typing this on a Acer Swift that was $799 with the current 11th gen Xe parts.

You'd probably want a bit more future longevity but then $700 isnt too big a deal, neither is $800.

Has any torn down the D15/14/17 to see upgradability.

    • My wife had a budget under $800 so I went with this, she just needs it for her cricut machine as the macbook from 2011 is now no longer supported with the software lol ! the old version works but it's very laggy ;)

  • Would personally pay 60 bucks more for the Swift 3 from Officeworks. Bit lighter and a 4300u

Had this exact machine (the Huawei D15) before and could not get over the webcam placement

    • Neither could those who were video conferencing with you :( :)

    • Just get an external webcam if it's that bad ? 👀

      • Just sold it and got something else, wasn't going to carry an external webcam around with me. The extra money wasn't worth the inconvinience to me

  • I think tech 10%-15% is coming, I receive an email from eBay a few days ago with code "TECH10OFF"

    https://pages.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/tech10off/

Below iinks didn't work and code didn't work may be they sent out too early, from the link it said aug21

    https://www.ebay.com.au/e/coupon-offers/10-off-tech-ebay-tue… or
    https://www.ebay.com.au/e/coupon-offers/flash-10-off-tech-eb…

    • Cool find, will be interesting if it works when the offer goes live ! time will tell right ;)

    • +1

That one has already come and gone. Tomorrow is most likely 15% off using Afterpay for Afterpay day as hinted in the media.

      • I saw the link "flash-10-off-tech-ebay-tuesday-aug21" not sure why I received it on 17Aug Tue.

    • +2

China will grow stronger - Command and Conquer - Zero Hour haha

      • +5

I've been in the tech field for decades and I've come across heaps of laptops obviously.

There's only been two I've had that werent China. That's Fujitsu.

So its a lost battle. For the last 20-25-30yrs its all been China laptops.

    • +2

It's a pity you haven't been to China.

    • Lol at China having #1 sales on smartphones…wont be long till they capture the laptop market as well with budget oled lap…uh oh

"In day-to-day use, however, the Huawei MateBook D15 performs well. As long as you know to keep your expectations in check and not try running too intensive tasks – such as 3D rendering or playing the latest games – then you should be reasonably happy with the performance of this laptop considering its price.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3500U comes with AMD Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics, and while they can handle basic 2D gaming, anything more taxing is not going to run well.

The screen is a bit disappointing though, and with a contrast ratio of just 800:1 and a relatively low brightness of 250 nits, the display feels a bit anaemic and washed out. It’s a far cry from some of the bright and vibrant screens we’re used to at this price point – and nowhere near the quality of a MacBook screen."

Imagine being targeted for a crappy clearance deal

  • Not good performance, but cheap price

  • +1

Hey stupid question but really need some help; how does this deal compare to these three laptops?
    (1) https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lenovo-ideapad-slim-3-14-inch… (they will reduce to $630)
    (2) https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-e510-…

    • +1

I always just look on YouTube for individual reviews on the laptops I pick,

Given you can now get the one listed on this deal for cheap I would pick that 👍

  • How do I get a t down to $654?

    • +1

Deal was part of afterpay day which I think is now finished.. unfortunately

  • Missed out on this deal, probably will wait for a bit

    • +1

Should come around again, my wife has no complaints about the laptop so it's + from me
