Product description
Our Smartest Grinder. It Adjusts the Dose When You Change the Grind The perfect coffee needs a precise amount of freshly ground beans. But adjustments in grind size requires different grind times to achieve a consistent dose. Breville's conical burr Smart Grinder uses Dosing IQ technology to automatically adjust the dose whenever you change the grind. Choose between 'Cups' for French Press or Filter, and 'Shots' for Espresso, to get the right dose for your needs, whatever the grind setting. You can even tweak for taste. The smart grinder has an LCD display, 25 grind settings, 450g removable hopper, and comes with two grinding cradles for dosing directly into 50-54mm or 58mm commercial espresso filters plus an air-tight storage canister, suitable for plunger or filter coffee. You choose the grind, it'll choose the dose

bought this grinder from Amazon a few months back. it's a far superior grind compared to the built-in Breville BES870

    • +2

I think you'll find it it is the exact same grinder (hardware wise) under the hood.

      • -2

        pretty sure it isnt.

with the built-in grinder, i had to constantly adjust the grind settings when i was changing between different beans to be able to receive the ideal pressure during extraction. with the standalone grinder, i have been able to leave the grind settings as they are, and achieve the same pressure during extraction. you can also see the difference in the crema produced between the two grinders.

That isn't consistent with what I have read, but perhaps I am wrong.

My suspicion is what you are doing is comparing a new SGP vs an older grinder. And the grinder degrades over time.

Also the burr alignment can be tweaked - so it could be that your burr alignment was different between the two grinders.

Same grinder. Due to heat from the machine itself you would achieve a more consistent grind from the stand alone one.

      • +4

you are correct, it is 100% exactly the same machine.
SGP looks cooler with the digital screen, but it's the same.
its just lipstick on the pig. lol

Not the cheapest but post COVID cheapest.

    It was $179.10 in Jan.

  • Could someone please post a screenshot of the pages with product and price? I don't have access, but hopefully will soon.

  • Am I blind? How do you sign up for an account?

    • Check if you have an account with these unions/businesses https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/437362
Else, you can register SunSuper for free.

for your first question, If you can read the above, means you are not blind.

      • I assume a business can register for an account though? Like a Bunnings trade account?

        • +1

sorry, that is outside of my expertise..

Its pretty straight forward to register the sunsuper with your name, and get the TGGC access. You do not need to put any fund there.
But it might take few days to get access.

          • @blueboy410: Yep super easy. Did it last night. All done (sunsuper registration and tggc registration) within 30 minutes

            • @jaypee06: Hi mate - did TGGC registration email come through within 30 mins?

              • +1

@ronburgundy11: Sorry, maybe I exagerrated a little. I did sunsuper & TGGC rego after work at 5pm. TGGC email came through 6:25pm.

  • Thanks blueboy

  • does anyone have thoughts on the sunbeam conical bur grinder? is this one worth the extra $$? will be using for espresso coffee only.

    • Which specific model?

      • Sunbeam Conical Burr Coffee Grinder EM0480 when compared to the smart pro grinder

        • Google "sunbeam em0480 vs breville smart grinder"

The sunbeam is not as good.

  • -2

Apparently doesn't grind fine enough without modding.

    • +1

Where did you read that? The general consensus is it grinds fine enough. There are concerns about clumping and consistency, but never seen any about not being fine enough.

      • Coffeesnobs.
Apparently a lot of people need mod washers.
Apologies was replying to sunbeam grinder.

        • +2

Yeah, that may be true about the Sunbeam. It definitely isn't about the Breville.
