  • Can anyone recommend some entry level but sturdy cockpit please?

    • Honestly, DIY if you can.
Some lengths of 4x2 got me started (and a bit of cheap ply or MDF to screw to the sides for rigidity).

Otherwise, there's plenty of places on ebay to get 4080 profile (and associated connectors), and knock something together like the simlab TR1 or GT1.

I've got enough bits together to make my Simlab TR1 clone for when my shoulder recovers. Even picked up a cheap SAAS Mach 2 with slider to complement it.

    • I have this, which I'd call entry-level: https://nextlevelracing.com/products/next-level-racing-chall… RRP $549. It's been great (I've replaced the feet with wheels to move it out of the way). $150 more than the GT-Lite (https://nextlevelracing.com/products/gt-lite/), but I think worth the extra coin. I got mine from JB during a 20% off sale.

GT Omega Titan/ART are good value, alternatively there's always 2nd hand sim racing cockpits coming up on FB Marketplace or in the Sim Racing FB groups. However if you can afford it, just go straight for an 8020 (extruded aluminium) rig - they are more expensive, however their resale value is very good and it's really easy to get accessories that fit (e.g. screen mount, keyboard/mouse mount, handbrake/shifter mount).

    • look for the: Genuine MINI GT ART Racing Simulator Steering Wheel Stand G29 PS4 G920 T300 G923

  • G29 is quite old now, given it was superseded by G920 and G923 it's not really a deal at those prices.
I picked up my G920 with shifter for less a few years ago.

    • +3

G29 is the PS3, 4, 5 + PC version, and the G920 is for Xbox One + PC.

      • Have we decided of "true motion" or whatever the upgrade was is actually anything other than marketing hype?

      • Guessing they didn't include PS3 compatibility (but kept only PS4 / PS5) for the G923 when they released it then as I was under the impression that was the replacement for G29.

Given the shortages, guess it's an ok price if you need PS3 compatibility, otherwise I'd be shopping for G923 + shifter when JB's have their sale.

    • Is downvote to support the tired old PS3?

If you've waited this long to get a brand new G29 for your PS3 then you've gotta ask yourself, how much life is left in the PS3 (I've had 2 die on my already) and would a 2nd hand G29 be a better option.

If you're getting a wheel for your PS4 or PS5, then you have the option to invest in the G923 which technically superseded the old G29.

Granted the G29 is compatible with the PS4 and PS5, but honestly, I stand by my original statement in that the G29 is quite old (originally released 6 years ago), and it was superseded by the G920 (also 6yrs ago) and G923 (nearly 5 months ago).

Saw this myself earlier. Just missing shifter, but with paddle shift, it's not an immediate requirement.

Wish I could update my old G27 to this one, but with having a G920 too, Minister for Finance and Recreation says no. lol

      • Can you sack or vote down for the minister?

        • Lol. the resultant impact on financial resources would negate any freedoms achieved.

    • Is this a good price for G923? I want to get a racing wheel for PS5/PC.

Better spending a bit more and getting fanatecs new direct drive for approx 500 or 800 with boost kit. Difference is like using a kids toy vs much more realistic

    • +4

yes $800 without wheel, pedals, shifter…which are another $1k at least. You are comparing $400 to $1800

    • +1

You can't even compare the two products in pricing.
The G29 is great introduction for anyone wanting to get into racing, the fanatecs are aimed at more pro racing gamers.

  • weird but if you get the wheel for $399 and shifter separately for $62 total $461
afterpay price is $391.85 saving you $6.8 compared to buying the "combo"
