Perfect for all my 8K media

Be VERY careful and read whirlpool specifically before buying ANY of the 2021 series Hisense TVs. They have given us multiple rubbish botched products that are not the same as US despite having same model numbers. I dont know about this specific model but make sure you read up from aussie forums before buying any.

      Australia - Vidda U5
USA - Android TV (newer processor model)

I think your under the impression that this is the US model because of Android TV but you're wrong. Even Australia gets andorid TV on the 8K models. So this is indeed a gimped version of the US model.

So you should change your description and have the facts right before you confuse people into buying this under the impression of it be the US model!

  • this or sony 75 x90j?

  • I bought a 55 inch hisense for the oldies and i was dead impressed with picture quality…its made out of craptanium plastic but it has a really nice picture for an el-cheapo lower end model. Are they as good with the higher priced screens - comparable to high end samsungs? (samsung panel presumably?)

    warning—psa—warning

No Hisense TV is like the US version. All the TVs that Australia gets its a mixed version of the US and EU model. So when you're looking at reviews don't be fooled into thinking its the same TV as they use the same model numbers with their 2021 models.

Features could seriously gimpped like HDMI2.1, VA panels, dimming zones, peak nits etc.

They are amazing TVs for the price but not what the US gets, which is freaking amazing specs

I've seen the Q8 and the way US talks about the H9G which it was supposed to be like, was in no way close to their model. Q8 to me was an average TV that couldn't compare to even mid range Sonys or Samsung. U8G has worse specs in certain sizes. The SX Dual cell is another story. It can look absolutely amazing. It has few little processing issues but nothing major that can't be fixed. Others have complained of problems before the firmware update. I haven't experienced anything bad. This is basically an OLED but brighter. I would advise anyone that can still get it, to use a Shield with it and only watch high bitrate content though. I believe its selling for $1495, I ended up getting it for $1175 during the one day only sales. They even offered to sell the display model for just over a grand, which was only two weeks old.

I have a 85" Q8 and a 85" x90h and I think they are pretty much on par but I got lucky with the panels, wish the x95h came in this size because that indeed is a step up. I've seen others that had bad DSE and banding tho so it's a hit and a miss I guess. I also haven't noticed the red blur during my normal viewing, never watch FTA tho I think it's there so I haven't gone looking for it. Tho others with the 85" don't see it either. My complaint with the x90h is the way its handing my soundsystem, doesn't like to play nice with my amp

I've really wanted to bite the bullet on the SX, seems great value but have seen a lot of negative comments on here about. Kind of want to see one in person before I buy too

        • Mẹ too. It's too late to buy now.

          • @ntt: Yeah, little stock around the place, nothing in Perth for me really :(
The weight is also a bit off putting as I'd be wall mounting it

            • @whitelie: Weight of the TV itself is 38kg. Same as my X930e. So no issues wall mounting it. Only thing I miss is the huge brightness of the Sony. I believe its still the brightest TV ever for full screen. But its a sacrifice ill take for perfect blacks. Theres literally nothing else released other than the SX that can get you LCD brightness with those black levels. QN90A comes close but off angle isn't the best for blacks and blooming. The Hisense is very good off axis, basically OLED like.

      • @Monstalova, just wondering if you own an 85 Q8? mine looks awesome, HDR blacks looks close to oled. I turned off smooth motion, solved any motion issue there could be. Non HDR, I use Nvidia shield pro and they vibrant images. May be I am lucky with the panel too. Yes, I did some calibration to get it perfect for my liking.
I use Nvidia Shield Prod connected to Samsung HW-Q950A connected to Hisense 85 Q8

        • Sorry I thought I put in my friend has a 75 inch Q8. I've tested many things on it in different viewing conditions. Blacks are good but not great. I find local dimming algorithm to not be on Sonys level although not far off. At least not the x930e. Although blacks are quite similar they tend to lag or have some glitches sometimes. Also have the shield pro and upscaling is almost no difference with or without it on my Sony, sometimes the shield oversharpens on low resolution content causing artifacts. Keep in mind the bigger the screen the brighter it will look too. Need to point out that 65 and 75 Q8 have the same amount of dimming zones, so that's always going to be trickier for a bigger size to handle it. 85 does have about 30 or so more dimming zones comparatively. For me colours, banding and motion is a substantial loss on the Q8 (as well as the Dual Cell but its slightly better) as a few calibrators have said its very hard to get it accurate and you always have to make a compromise in some areas. I also had a LG BX which I have sold and I rate the SX better in most areas, other than the usual Hisense problems, which are less compared to their other models.

  • Cheaper many other places including the first Google result
    https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/75u80g-hisense-75-inch-u…

    • And out of stock. I/we acknowledge your point.

      • My bad I didn't really do a thorough check 😅 but there were a couple places selling below this price.

Perhaps one of them is in stock 🤔

      • It's just on back order, they will get stock within a week if you order from them.

  • After reading around the web there is enough negatives concerning these TVs 2021 release that I will give this deal a miss. Perhaps Costco returns policy might enable to try n return scenario but missing hdmi 2.1, upscaling gets mixed reviews and no 4k120hz is a big negative for me. Correct me if I’m wrong on anything re:75u80g specifically.

    • There's 2 2.1 inputs though?

This one has 2 x HDMI2.1 ports according to the specs. HDMI 3 and 4 do 8k60
Some of their other models like the U8G are partial compliance and they clearly call that out in their specs

Bought this about a two month ago from Good guys while one sale (btw cheaper now with their discount till 25th id I am not mistaken).
Build quality as well as picture are stunning (we also have a Sony, older Hisense 65" and a Soniq).
Upscaling works great on Blu-ray and even DVD.
HDMI 2.1 also gives us all but one green "tick" (Dolby vision Gaming @ 120hz if I remember correctly )with the Xbox Series S.

    • How about the motion? Overall, how do you find the processor compared to, say, the Sony 2021 range?

      • Sorry mate I can't compare it to the 21 Sony range .
However we have watched plenty of movies on it (streamed & disc) as well play our fair bit of Xbox Series X on it and so far had no issues with the motion/ghosting or similar.
Two month down the track and definitely regrets or buyers remorse here!
Only thing I noticed that this thing gets warm. Not as bad as the old plasmas by still reminds me of it. When our son is playing for a couple of hours and you walk into the room you can tell.
Yet to see the first power bill with the new telly.

        • That sounds promising. I’m leaning towards hisense ATM although I feel like paying for marketing gimmick (8k) but I’d be happy if it’s a strong performer as a 4K tv. If it has good FALD, HDMI2.1, High nits .etc mid $3k sounds like a bargain.

          • @qyy920: The new TCL 825 are freaking amazing. Take a look at them or wait another year for the microled

            • @DoesntEvenMatter: I heard the TCLs aren’t the same here. It’s probably better to wait.

              • @qyy920: The Hisense arnt the same even tho they share the same model number

                • @DoesntEvenMatter: Really? I checked specs of u80g they seem to be identical to the one here. Not sure about other models.

                  • @qyy920: Jump on whirlpool for Hisense 2021, we have a long discussion on this happening, that it was from our chats there and contact to media outlets that they changed their reviews in Australia.

Its why they now have (Australian Version) next to the model number on their website

      • One thing in regards to the processor: This thing is a beast in regards to upscaling. Blu-rays but even normal DVDs are looking great, same goes for none (U)HD streaming content. Sorry we do not watch any normal TV.
