    quick search SEIKO 5 WATCH SRPE58K would ignore the bs rrp, majority selling it for $269-$289

    • so $242 is a good deal; $300 at creation, $289 at starbuy.

      • my comment is just on the rrp, the watch itself have no idea about

      would ignore the bs rrp

      Great advice in general for OzB. 👍 SMTT when I see RRP in posts when it's usually got little relevance to reality.

      The Watch Outlet is probably on thin ice with their "strikethrough pricing", and need to be clearer about what price items recently sold for.

      Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences.

      For the Seiko 5 SRPE58K, what does this mean?

      $269.00 $595.00

      In fact, copy that text, then paste it somewhere, and you get this;

      $269.00 Regular price $595.00

      Regular price? ORLY? Google says no.

      • $595 is the RRP, the recommended retail price by Seiko.

        • Where does it say on your website that the strikethrough price is RRP?

          Because it's not the "regular" price, that's for sure.

            @pennypacker: Sorry, This is our new website and we still have some bugs to fix. It will be fixed tomorrow. Thank you for pointing it out.

    Yes we all know lot of bs RRP on watch sales, why can't this be said about Starbuy too when they have sale every week? Why bring it up now?

  • Most people wouldn't pay RRP for anything (or shouldn't), so what. Up to the individual to work out what's a good deal or not and do their own research.

    @dingdong3000 and @G-rig

    The issue is two-fold.

    1. This deal is posted by a store rep - Starbuy deals are not.
    2. The website for this deal has a sneaky strikethrough price which the ACCC takes a dim view of. However, it looks like it's going to be fixed, so that's a plus.. Starbuy (and others) clearly label prices as RRP, although ACCC seems to want to discourage that as well (see my first link in this deal).

    Regardless of the above, whether posted by an associate or a random, OzB guidelines encourage avoiding comparisons to RRP - hence my comment that it's good advice in general to ignore bs RRP.

    • H.E Pennypacker (:D)

      Too easy, suppose everyone would compare to RRP of anything you buy so it's nothing new. Just like 20%, 30% off etc would be off the RRP. Don't see what the fuss is about, just have to look at the sale price and do a google, compare to other shops/offerings and see if it's a good deal or not. Other stores can price jack when there is a sale on (like ebay sellers etc) this isn't very ethical either.

      I purchased a G-shock from Masters in time, they seem great to deal with but in the Netherlands so delivery may take a week or so.

      P.s. I wasn't the one who negged

      • reason why I pointed out the rrp is because if you do a quick google majority have it at almost half the price of rrp, this is when it becomes a bs rrp as in it never sells for that or near that price, so I was just pointing out the real discount isn't off the rrp, its off what it regularly sells for. (if that makes any sense) it's easy to be fooled its a $595 watch at half price when in reality it's not

        • +1

          yeah that's fair enough, good to know. Have to always take RRP with a grain of salt and find out what they are going for usually.

          • @G-rig: Should add I’m not bagging the watch, may be great for the current price

  • Gshocks 5600 look good but i cant spend more thsn 100 to tell the time. Not when I have my mobile.
