I ended up calling The Good Guys just to enquire about it and they ended up offering it for $4850 without me asking to lower it so worth calling or going in store if you're keen on this version and having a chat with them

Wish my living room was big enough and there was anything worth watching on a TV that big….

Just a note that the 85-inch version of this TV series is a VA panel according to various internet reports; smaller sizes are IPS or similar panels. So if you are going to read the review at Rtings, probably have to deduce that it sits somewhere between the as-tested QN85A and the QN90A (as the QN90A series are all VA panels).

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-qn85a-qled-v…

    • My take is that VA is preferred right? I did look at the reviews a while back and the previous Gen models were VA panals, and the IPS-like panels are the less favourite. That's how I am interpreting. I am keen on this TV so it's good to see the prices coming down.

I already have a N950 Sound bar from 2 years ago which was the top soundbar at the time. Haven't done any research, but would it be better value to get a sound bar purely because of the promo?

      • See Glenn's post below - get the cheapest Soundbar possible - in his case, $233. The cashback is based on the TV not the Soundbar, so get $600 Cashback. So $367 in front. Sell the new Soundbar as it is unlikely to be better than what you've got.

Regards VA panels - read the Rtings site notes but I think for TV, VA is generally preferred though not always. Has better contrast generally than IPS.

        • VA has much better blacks. So in a dark room it helps a lot where you notice it more. QN90A and QN85A are meant to have the same amount of dimming zones. So for the 85 inch model there may not be much difference in picture quality, if at all.

I got Appliances Online to price match Appliance Central (or Buy Smarte) for TV @ $4850 with HW-A450XY Soundbar @ $233, you then get $600 cashback (not $1,000 on this model) from Samsung plus 12 months free streaming of Kayo or Binge. Brings the TV cost down to $4,483 with bonus Soundbar and streaming.

    • Did you do all this online?

      • I phoned Appliances Online they checked competitors' pricing while I waited and they matched it, took about 5 minutes

        • Do you think they will price match the Samsung EPP store?

          • @Bearboi: Checked and they don't price match with their supplier.

    • Just did this. Worked like a charm. The soundbar was a little more for me (in SA), as Buysmarte wanted $79 for delivery, so pricematched appliancecentral again ($255). I was staring at this exact TV for a fair while in the Good Guys the other day, when the sticker price was $6495. Never dreamed I’d ever get one. Beautiful picture.

    • Thanks for this mate, great deal. I called them up and followed the same steps. Delivery on Monday.

  • Is it just me, or does that stand look extremely tiny for the size of this behemoth?

    • Looks like a sneeze in the wrong direction could topple it.

    • Probably thinking everyone will wall mount them… ?

  • Anyone know if the Slim fit wall mount offered by Samsung is sturdy enough to support this size TV? or would it be advisable to go with an after market wall mount?

  • Have seen this exact tv 85" in store. It looks incredible, picture quality was great. And it's so sleek and thin. Great for anyone wanting to wall mount.
