    Hello, whether you use cable or dock then using a normal HDMI cable, it depends on your personal needs.
    If your laptop and monitor have corresponding ports, you can use an HDMI cable directly.
    Otherwise, you need a dock then using an HDMI cable.
    Or would you like to info me the model of your laptop and monitor? Thus I can better recommend a suitable one for you.

  Bought the HDMI to DisplayPort Adapter with USB Power. The cheapest I could find for this type of adaptor to connect my laptop HDMI to monitor's Displayport.

  The part from HDMI input to DP output is only 6 inch (15 cms), so that means the monitor (DP) has to be very close to the laptop (HDMI), is that right what I am thinking?

  If it's correct, do you have any other one with HDMI input to DP output is at least 1 meter?

  My laptop is placed sideways instead of in front of the monitor, so 15 cms won't cut it, need something longer.

    This is an adaptor. You'll need to use a displayport to displayport cable from the adaptor to your monitor.

    It's an adaptor, you'll need to use a DP to DP cable from the adaptor to your monitor, and you can try this one.
    In order to meet your requirements, you need buy both of them.
    Or could you please tell me the model of your laptop and monitor? Maybe there are other ways to solve the problem.
