  • Damn just pulled the trigger on the JW post..

    Nice

  • This or the B450M mortar max, anyone could advise which is better?

    • +3

Depends on your use case/what CPU you're running - Mortar Max probably has better VRMs etc, this budget-ish B550 may interest you for PCIe 4.0 and some other newer connectivity stuff. Personally I'd go the Mortar since we're nearly at the end of the line for the AM4 socket anyway but it might not matter too much

      • Thank you for your answer, planning to use a 3300x or a 5600x, mainly used for gaming, got the Mortar max from the last deal.

        • I got 5600x with B450m mortar max. Awaiting GPU.
Apart from PCIe 4.0, there is really not much benefit since AM4 is end of the line. Next gen CPU will be AM5.

B550M is better because you also get PCIE 4 .. worth the extra tech

IMO the MSI is better quality

I just chucked a 5600x on the mortar max and it's going strong. Use the XMP function to boost 3600mhz for ram and all good. Plus running Win 11 with TPM enabled so it's win 11 ready. I reckon the MSI is a better board VRM. Only negative on B450 is the M.2 / PCIE config limitations

    • is there any deals for "B450M mortar max" ?

Found this just before too (reason why I negged the JW deal)… didn't even see this post.

Lots of people here (most?) will have already used the code though.

Might require Ebay Plus for free delivery.

    It doesn't.

  • Jesus….

  • I want to replace my budgetboy MSI B450m with another budget MB, since it has a couple annoying issues and I want a second m.2 slot. This seems alright for my ryzen 5 3600. Any reason to skip on this?

    • Only if you plan to upgrade to a more powerful CPU (5900x, 5950x). This board will run perfect with 6 core CPUs

  • I upgaded fromm B350 to B450 (that Motor max) a couple of weeks ago… should I stay put…. or wait for a deal for Asus B550I

  • +2

I got this board for about $80 a couple of months ago along with a Ryzen 5 3600 and it has been really good. PCIE 4.0, 2 x NVMe (1 at PCIE 3 though), 4 x RAM slots, 6 x USB, 4 x SATA, the ASUS RGB controller thing, etc.

I’m not planning to overclock so hopefully the lower end VRMs will be fine. I reckon it’s a bargain.

  • Looks great, but still waiting for USB-C, front and rear.

    Good deal though!

boards with front usb-c header are crazy expensive, i've just given up on finding a decently priced one one lol

  • Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX Mini ITX AM4 is this motherboard worth the price right now? or should I get what OP posted?
    Thank you in advance.

    • i vs m. apple vs orange

      • Got it :) thanks.

  • Guys, I have a microatx case lying around, what's the cheapest pc build I can do for a htpc? All I need is something capable of playing DVDs and 4k streaming at 60hz

    • +1

GTX970 would be the entry level GPU plus it uses 1 x molex and low power card. You can use this mobo and a cheap second hand Ryzen 5 2600/3600 CPU. The ram you would buy new; nice 16GB RGB kit for about $170. The Trident Z or XPG looks nice

      • Thanks mate, will look into those specs, cheers!

you didn't factor in the ram and psu cost, (+ potential SSD) etc..

might be cheaper to just get an android media player box, google chrome tv, amazon 4k firestick or apple tv for htpc needs…

also those devices are usually always on, has very lower power usage and very quiet.

DVD is a dead dinosaur nowadays..
most people are streaming 720p as a minimum either from their own local network or from streaming sites.

Probably low end Intel just a i3-10100 with integrated GPU, approx $189. 4k res @ 60kz and you're not messing around trying to find GPU in this market.

B series board under $100 and just stick any old compatible ram in there.

  • Is it over now? Shows as $139 for me.
