800 Microsoft Points FREE When Signing up to XBOX Rewards

70

Well I got an email from XBOX today saying I can get 800 MS points for free just for signing up the the XBOX Rewards program. I am not a gold member and it did not require me to become a gold member thus far.

Have a look!

Online email I received is here: http://view.engage.xbox.com/?j=fe87157570620d787c&m=fecc1671…

Rewards site to sign up for interest if you want to earn extra points and the deal doesn't work: http://rewards.xbox.com/

Edit: It probably only applies to people who actually receive the email. I'm sorry - I guess I should have read the terms a lot closer!

Note: I haven't been online with my xbox for probably at least 6-8 months, and my gold subscription expired about 2-3 weeks ago.

  • "Offer good only for named recipients of this email"

    Damn :(

Knew it sounded too good to be true.

  • Ah sorry if that is the case guys… :(

  • I got one of these but I only ever connected my xbox online once.
Maybe they are targeting low usage customers.
Might sign up and get the free points anyway.

  • I use xbox live everyday, it might be all xbl gold members? I just checked my email and got it. Thanks!

  • already signed up think I only got 40 points or something so far lol

  • I am an XBox silver member (was gold but haven't renewed for a year or two), don't use the Xbox very often these days - I got the email as well.

what about those who are gold and are already signed up to xbox live rewards?

this is just a slap to the face to those who have been loyal. ive been a gold subscriber for over 3 years straight now, and have signed up to xbox live rewards (from which i have only made a total of 170ms points)

now those who havent signed up, get 800ms points free?! hardly seems fair..

Try being gold for 6 years.. Ive had it since XB1

actually yeah, ive had it since xb1 too now that i think about it. although, on a separate account.

but none the less, this is how you successfully lose customers in the long run.
sure their subscriptions might slightly increase short term, but most people wont stay subscribed for the same reasons they arent subscribed now. the ones that would stay on, are the ones that have already stayed on, and theyve just been made unhappy.

if microsoft keeps treating their loyal customers like shit, ill be more than happy to switch over to the free PSN.

hopefully next time instead of being 'Hey, you DON'T use xbox much and you AREN'T subscribed, have 800ms points' they can reward the people who actually mean shit and have been long term subscribers

  • i got the email as well, haven't logged onto xbl for a year.

Cmon, all of us have sent in 360's with the RROD, my self I have lost count. Most recent this year and my first one10+ years ago. 3 x 360's in the house, 2 live accounts and over 30 games… Microsoft do not care about loyal customers… If they did, they would have sorted out the ongoing problems with the console long ago… They do not care… If you have dealt with them over the phone - you will understand.. Care so little that we do not even have a call center in AU for the 360… Joke of a customer service team. Hate calling them more than my bank!

    • I had to send my Xbox to MS twice for RROD. Both times it was sent, fixed and returned within 5 days with a voucher for one month of XBL Gold. Yeah, I would have preferred it to not happen at all, but it was an extremely painless process in the end. For someone who has such hate for MS, it's pretty crazy that you own three 360s.

      • If I had only sent in twice, I might feel like that:) As I said, I have lost count… must be 8 times I have sent in a 360 for the rrod. ( last comment by hambuger states 5 times for him ) My last unit died on xmas eve and I had udraw + games for my daughter wrapped under the xmas tree. So my option was I could have waited for a service, (over xmas new year, I would say little longer than usual) or, go buy a new unit @ $158 from HN and give it to my daughter for xmas…. and make her smile, pretty easy choice. (that is how I got 2 x 360, the other one is from release date in March 23, 2006) Sure I sent it in after New year and got my 1 month xbl gold, valued @ Approx $3 ( If you missed this that is - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59081 @ $1 a month )
Oh and yes, they have the repair service down to a tee, as you would with this much practice - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=360+faliure+rate&ie=utf-8&…
We are gamers in my house, we would rather spend time @ home with family and friends than @ the pub/club and as a result we also have wii and ps3 in the house - neither of them have ever faulted..

If the 360 was a fridge/washer it would be recalled due to ongoing faults… Just cause it's Microsoft and they have $$$ we get a product that has such ongoing problems, that they extend the warranty. That is admission of a product that is badly designed… Tell me another product that offers free postage, both ways, back to the manufacturer for a replacement, pretty much for life of the unit.

    • 'pretty much for life of the unit.'

You're kidding right? The xbox 360 is now 6 years old and this is their warranty terms - just 3 years warranty from purchase on RROD units:

'Any Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights will now be covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase. All other existing Xbox 360 warranty policies remain in place.'

I've had to fix mine myself 3 times now because their known faulty product is out of their 3 year warranty.

  • I didn't it either. Also had XBL since it first came out on the first console. Haven't used it in 18 months or so after my fifth RRoD. Shame since I'm wanting to get a slim and jump back onto live.

  • I got that email, signed up for the "rewards" and did I get 800 points? No. Tried to add my paypal account to buy some points for the mass effect DLC… did it work? No.

My first 360 had the RROD three times, finally got it hiflowed and fan modded and now it's my offline xbox. Bought one of the new slims purely to play ME3 with the saved games from the first two games. Once ME3 is completed, the xbox is going in the bin where it belongs.

    • Instead of that - I'll pay you to post it up to me. You know, cause you're obviously going to chuck it out.
