  • Very good price.

  • +6

Wow the price has dropped a lot. Allphones' price after $200 voucher discount was $580 delivered. I am so glad they cancelled my SGNexus order claiming that I bleached the T&C. Allphones has lost this customer forever.

    • What did you do that made them think you breached the T&C?

    • +24

Well, fair enough! They probably couldn't read the T&Cs' after you bleached it.

      • Alright, a rare spelling mistake and the joke's on me :-)

Since you asked, here is why AP cancelled my order. I wanted to buy a phone as a Christmas gift for my relative, and I got him to register the discount voucher with his name and his e-mail. The voucher code was verified in January and we told AP that it was intended to be a gift, i.e. I will be paying. The CSO made a note in AP's record and she said it should be okay.

The T&C said the voucher is non-transferrable. AP said my order is cancelled because the name on my credit card does not match the name on the voucher, so a transfer had taken place in breach of the T&C.

It was no big loss as Christmas is long gone, the SGNexus wasn't what we had in mind, AP's price was too high to start with, and quad-core phones are coming soon.

        • Perhaps you could lodge a complaint with the ACCC? Would have helped if there was some written evidence, but I take it you called them over the phone?

  • This is the same price as the SGS2 now.

    • -8

at a few places its actually less.

I think this phone is only meant to be a mid range phone whereas the SGS2 is a high end phone.

The only hardware it has over the S2 is the high res screen.
ICS will eventually come to the S2

      • +5

Galaxy Nexus? Mid-range? Lol! If you use one for a while, you'll quickly see how it is as good if not better than the SII.

        • Mate you will not believe how many loyal fans is here for SGS2. Eveytime I post a comment about how bad SGS2 is or how good another phone is over SGS2. The comment got neg faster than you can say "samsung galaxy S2"

        • There are so many people bought SGS2 @ $500 price range when GN was around $700. We see those people trying to justify their decision in every GN post.

        • Agreed, belter of a phone, comparing the SG2 and the GN I much prefer the GN, it may be ICS and I know the SG2 will get it soon but currently GN wins hands down in my book, cameras ok, its lightning fast, no real cons apart from no memory card slot

        • -4

I have neither phone, not trying to justify anything. All the hardware is better on the S2 except for the screen. There is no argument there.
You want me to list them?

Im not trying to say the GN is a bad phone, but there is a reason why the phone has dropped in price from $700 to now below the S2 and imo rightly so.

none of the google branded phones have been flagship type phones, this is only flagship in the sense that it is first to have ICS, either google or samsung intentionally didnt put the best spec hardware in it as so the price would be more reasonable to the masses. Thats a good thing not a bad thing btw.

        • +2

You want me to list them?

          Yes, please do.

        • "You want me to list them?"

I too, am curious. Coming from a SGS2 user to Galaxy Nexus is a hell of a jump. It's not quite the improvement from iPhone 3GS > 4 but it's still a significant one. ICS is coming to SGSII but it's still not optimised for <720 resolution screens or hardware buttons. Throw in the inevitable TouchWiz skin and the Nexus is already a superior device in software alone. Nexus has a superior build quality at the cost of 3MP for the camera and no MicroSD slot.

The SGSII is still a fantastic phone, especially since it's past half its life cycle, and continues to be competitive with anything on the market but to say it's better than the Galaxy Nexus, and label the latter as 'mid range' is just madness.

          cliff notes:
          storage
          camera
          battery life

feel free to "tear me apart" showing how wrong I am.
Its funny how people want to defend one phone over another, I couldnt care less either way, I just wanted to point out that a mid spec phone, of the latest generation has come a long way.
It will continue to go a long way price wise too, I imagine it will settle into the $400 bracket for the long run.

@strand - ok to clear up the "mid spec" comment - why is it hard to understand that google branded phones were not designed/intended to be the highest spec phones, only first to market with new software and is supposed to appeal/sell to the masses. Its just at a perfect storm atm where its the first/only phone with ICS atm. A lot of the benefits are probably due to this and when every maker releases their ICS phones, the GN will sit nicely in the middle where it was intended. Atm its in the upper end of course only because its first to market.
I imagine all the neggers are pissed that I would curse their $500+ phone for being mid spec?

  • Alvian what do you mean you bleached the t and c. All phones are terrible couldn't use the $200 discount voucher as I wanted the Galaxy s2 which wasn't restocked from Christmas, very disappointing and the galaxy nexus wasn't much of a discount. I just ended up buying a nexus off Ebay for the exact same price here plus delivery, never ever going to consider All phones ever again.

    • They just didn't sell it out right cause they knew they would have lost lots of money. You could get it on contact but not outright…

      Shifty allphones!!

  • been thinking about getting this now or waiting for gs3, tempting

    • I bought the gn few weeks ago sensational phone, ill probably end up buying the s3 though.

  • -2

voter1 what other places have you seen this cheaper and is that cheaper including delivery. What is the average price the Galaxy s3 will be $1000 or over, then the Galaxy s2 will price drop.

  • 500 inc shipping would be a much better deal. There are a lot of SIIs selling on Gumtree and Ebay for under $500. I was able to get a free one on a Vodafone $29 plan for 24 months, which was also easily unlocked.

    • How much and how did you unlock it?

      • just call them and ask i think.

  • yeah the vodafone $29 deal is okay too, but now with all these live connected plans it makes sense to buy outright and go on a $10 no contract with LC.

  • Is there any reason why the galaxy series (s and s2) seem to hold their prices better compared to the Nexus series (S and GN)?

Also, is there any difference between buying it via kogan and on ebay?

    $479.95 + Postage - Shopping Square

May be a bit cheaper - depends on postage which can vary by destination

Up to buyers whether they prefer to deal with Kogan or Shopping Square or neither

  • Im really considering getting this, been looking for a replacement Android for the girlfriend and no good deals on anything for months. Wish I got the liquid metal when it was on offer. Didnt really want to spend more than $300 on a new phone, is it worth getting this or waiting a little longer for others to come down in price?

    • its worth getting this unless you want to wait for the S3

    • This is a very good deal. The SIII should be coming out in the next couple months and would likely be similar (+ micro SD slot, and maybe non-pentile screen) but that will come with a price premium and wouldn't approach the $500 mark for a looonngg time.

  • +1

I'm trying to wait until S3 comes out, but it's getting harder everyday now.

    • -2

      That's what she said!

Sorry couldn't help myself lol :P

  • Bought this for like $580 at kogan last week. Scumbag kogan.
