  • I tried with talked to sale RP, getting the same quote. So I think this should be the lowest price you can get for now. And it is StingRay White unlike the legion 5 Pro in Phantom black.

    • I tried too, no dice :)

If you are not in a hurry, might be good to wait for another 20% off lenovo eBay for something like this

    Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (5800H, RTX 3070 140W, 16" WQXGA IPS 165hz 500nits 100% sRGB, 32GB, 1TB) $2,623.20 Delivered @ Lenovo eBay

    • From memory, the final price of the eBay 20% coupon simply matched that of their online store. This was also stock they had on hand ready to ship. If you ha education store access it would possibly be even better. If not, you would also be sacrificing cashback on top.

      • Just a quick comparison of the two, the ebay deal has 32gb RAM and 1tb SSD, double that of this deal. If that is worth whatever the cashback amount is, then I think it is a better deal.

        • I was referring apples to apples. The same ryzen spec model was being offered through the Lenovo site at that time for that price.

    • +1

This is with Intel CPU instead of AMD CPU, which supports the following features:

      ThunderBolt 4
      PCI-E 4.0
So that is why for the similar price it is having less RAM and storage

      • +4

I suppose the question is whether TB4 and PCIE 4.0 is worth losing out on the extra RAM and storage then. I suspect for most average users, they won't see the benefit of those features.

        • the ram and storage can always be upgraded later on..

also check out the 7i 11800 with 3070 for $2999 - Cashrewards cashback

          • +1

@Jvin: $2609.13 after cashback. I ended up grabbing that rather then than the L5i Pro listed here ($2295.93 after cashrewards) because I couldn't find any reviews on the L5I Pro. The cooling, overclocking and fact that you could add 3 years warranty when this one only has the option for 1 year.

It likely would have been covered by accc consumer regulations but after scanning the replace repair refund section and seeing australian store or online from an australian business as qualifiers…and lenovo's .com/au domain I just paid the 139. Much less trouble and its the premium tech to your house kind.

            • @xentar: Just purchased the same 7i legion with 3 years coverage. :)

            • @xentar: great job… i got the same with the 1 yr warranty… didnt think about getting the 3 yr warranty…
with all the laptops ive had, if they last ok for a year, usually last okay until one of the kids drop it.

      • From memory though, doesn't the AMD CPU also perform better than it's Intel counterpart?

        • Not compare to tigerlake H45 when connected to AC power supply. As INTEL tigerlake offers better single core performance as TDP increase. However for multicore I think AMD still takes advantages according to reviews.

CR has 13% cashback. According to a previous TA post, default site codes are eligible.

    • 16% with max

    • how to get the 16%?

  • Probably worth mentioning on the title or body that this is the white model only, because the thumbnail is a photo of a black laptop…

i wonder if something like this would be better. the 6800M seems to match the 3080 in some games / resolutions, reviews put it between 3070 - 3080. i am in the market for a laptop atm and been looking at the legions and this one.

    • The performance is better RTX 3070 Mobile.

      For 130W 3060 as 100%, 140W 3070 ( same on legion 5 pro and legion 7) will be about 117%, and RX 6800M will be around 123%

  • This is a really nice gaming laptop. It has a brilliant screen (better than the macbook pro which we paid more than 4k for). One note: it is big and heavy, I wouldn't carry it around daily.

  • Hmmmmm this or the AMD one?

    • +4

Wait for the AMD one. You will get better deals for certain.

11800h is definitely better than 5800h, but

      1. performance wise, intel only gets an edge at very high power loads, in most cases you probably wont see too much of a difference.

      2. Intel does support pcie4, but you also have to pay more to buy the pcie 4.0 ssd in the first place since I dont think lenovo have the machines installed with pcie4.0 cards so at least in the stock config there is no advantage whatsoever. And for a normal user, pcie 3.0 is already fast enough.

      3. Intel supports thunderbolt4.0, it would have been useful on something like a macbook, with its lack of ports and no discrete gpu, but on an already powerful machine like the legion? Nah while it would have some usecase for certain professional users, 95% people wont care. If you are at the stage where the 3070 is outdated and you want to considering getting an external gpu for extra performance…you probably would better off upgrading to a entirely new machine or considering build a pc.

      • +1

Yeah my choice is either get the laptop or upgrade my PC which is currently a 2600x and 1080. I have the money there for either this or a 3080, just haven't pulled the trigger on either yet.

        • I say HODL. Wait till either you see a good amd legion deal, or when gpu prices come down to an acceptable level for you.

Also I reckon you should probably upgrade the cpu and mobo haha, 2600x will definitely bottleneck with a high end 30 series

          • @Brrrrt: Ah I can already get a GPU around msrp anyway as I have family working at a supplier. Just haven't bothered with it yet tbh. CPU and mobo is my next upgrade for sure

            • @mojadu: ah gotcha. Im jealous now :x

but yeah it comes down to you. If I was you I would just upgrade my PC tbh. Even the 3080 laptop is only on par with a desktop 3060ti save for the 16gb of vram. The power draw difference is just too large a gap, now only if nvidia unlocked gpu power limits so we can get 200w monsters like the laptop 2080s

  • Apart from PCIEx4.0 & TB, is this Intel CPU better than the AMD? Does AMD have issues like stability, crashing, blue screen & etc when running regular programs & applications. What's best for non-gaming tasks?

    • +1

I got the AMD 5800h L5pro 32GB 1TB RTX3070 deal last month. Was delivered in 2 days. Have been using it daily with mixed usage of games, work, and a little bit of video editing (Davinci Resolve). I have maxed OC values in the bios. I have it on a Klim cyclone ($40 from Amazon) cooling pad.
It's not crashed once. No stability issues. It just works. And fast.
From my understanding, the intel will perform better (although I believe it's marginal), but the AMD will give better battery life unplugged.
So the choice is relative to your individual use case. If you use the laptop without power and prefer battery life, then AMD may be better for you. Also, the AMD is generally cheaper.

      • Thanks. First time into AMD, that's why I asked. Yeah the battery issue with the Intel model noted.

  • +2

oh uh.. dont order this if your in a rush.. their delayed just like the normal ones are. no updates when this will be shipped or any info given NOT in stock.
ordered this on 27. It said early September now it says mid September

  • I am close to buying this laptop, however I am hesitant as I wanted the AMD model which is sold out at the moment. I would also prefer the dark colour.
I spoke to Lenovo on Wednesday who say the AMD model should be back in stock around November.

Should I buy this laptop, or wait for the AMD model which has double RAM and double SSD capacity?
I am hesitant in buying this Intel model as I feel I will later need to fork out more money to upgrade the RAM and SSD, when the AMD model already has those.

    Advice please??

    • sale not on anymore, to late.

      • Fair enough that's too bad, but would you go the AMD or Intel model based on my questions?

        • Pick the readily available one.

Halvar and I both hv suffered over 4 months waiting and finally cancelled our order.

November is Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deal territory.. could be worth the wait.

  • I purchased the 11800h/3070 legion on the 29th August.

Got a confirmation email of the purchase but I have not been charged for it yet (apparently will only be charged when it ships).

It did say early September when I purchased it, but who knows…?

    • can you let us know when you receive it, thanks!

    • call and ask?

  • mine has been updated, but i did order before everyone else.
