But I'll then have nothing to put inside it.

      OzBargain membership card ?

      • +8

Don't need to carry that jv. Opted for the ozbargain membership chest tattoo instead. No regrets.

  • +3

Great wallet - had one for about 2 years now. Just be aware that the 'hide' part will not function as well if you get a crease in it and you will find it impossible to get out, but that was my fault for not looking after it when I first got it.

    • How's the suede-like underside of the flap holding up? Any issues with fraying?

      • +1

Suede is all fine, no fraying to speak of, the only damage is in top of the middle where it folds which has a small hole, but that is likely due to me overfilling it back in days when I used to carry every loyalty card known to man.

I am pretty confident it will last for a few years yet.

    • +3

i have a black one 2015 until now. 6 years and still solid. Would buy the same again.

    $97..?!?
    I rather hide Thanks

"My wallets gone! My wallets gone!"

    • +4

“You mean your cards and cash and stuff?”

“No, the wallet. It cost $97 on special!”

  • +2

Bought this wallet back in 2014, has been in my pocket every day since and it is still holding up. Was $89 when I bought it, pretty sure they use to be made in Melbourne but I guess with inflation and covid this is a pretty good deal

    • I've had two since about 2014. Good wallets (Just don't try and cram all your cards into one slot like I did, they'll eventually fall out)>

Whilst these are "designed in Melbourne", the wallets are actually made in Chennai, India. Still good wallets!

      • What sort of leather do they use?

        • +1

          Mostly cow

          • @bloom: Isn't that like illegal there?

            • +1

@Kangal: Only eating is illegal… Rest is bau.

              • +1

                @Big Deal: Still sounds weird.
Like imagine it was illegal to eat a human in Australia, but you can skin them all you like… 🤷

                • @Kangal: Agreed, doesnt make sense at all.. but its a compromise between Religious sentiments and Milking money.

              • @Big Deal: If you can’t eat it, what will you do with the meat?

                • @brongz: Export!?

                  • @Big Deal: India has a non-Hindu population of about 20% which is more than 200million people…and that’s a lot of cows for beef!

  • Lost my wallet in lockdown. Grabbed one of these to replace it.

    • +2

Sorry to hear, but how did you lose during lockdown?!

      • I wish I knew! I bet it will turn up somewhere in the house.

        • +2

Probably in the back pocket of the last pair of pants you wore to work….at least that was my experience when I lost my wallet for a few days 😂

    • Thank you for telling us. It's a fascinating insight into your life.

What the hell is ozbargain fascination with this brand? If you do a search for bellroy on this site you get heaps of bellroy deal. Don't get it

    • Link? I couldn't see anything close.

    • +5

It's the Ultraboost of the wallet world in OzB I guess.

    • +3

Shhhh. Nobody tell him about searching the site for condoms.

I have been using this exact wallet for the past 4 years, a little bit grubby looking now, but still serviceable.

Coming from the days when you have to carry 15 loyalty cards around for every store in your wallet, not to mention the driver's license, Medicare card etc, this wallet can carry the cards and slim down the profile better than most wallets I had in the past.

Now I have most of my loyalty cards scanned and saved on the phone, the wallet profile is even slimmer than before with less cards to carry.

I put a spare $20 in the hiding place so if I need emergency cash when the ATM doesn't work I have that with me.

The $100 I spent buying the wallet divided by 4 years of usage with no bulky wallet in my back pocket is well worth it.

      Hope that helps.

      • I upgrade to the passport wallet… Have three of them now (only used two of them) and just found out there's a new version with the hidden cash compartment.

      • I put a spare $20 in the hiding place so if I need emergency cash when the ATM doesn't work I have that with me.

        whoa!

Watch out we got a badass over here!

AUSTRALIAN brand headquartered in Melbourne with good quality products.

      • Quite a few Australian brands…Status Anxiety, The Horse…Cheaper wallets available.

        • +1

Isn’t The Horse just basically marked up basic stuff off AliExpress?

Furthermore, those wallets are for a different market segment. This is more for the everyday carry crowd.

          • @kerfuffle: Have you had first hand experience with their products? Would like to know where you got that impression from.

Also what do you mean by everyday carry? What about The Horse's wallets in particular (since you didn't mention Status Anxiety's offerings) do you think are not designed for everyday carry?

            • @Munki: Was referring more to their watches. Didn't even know they sold wallets. I have had experience with Status Anxiety wallets and many companies have similar wallets to them. I bought a Country Road wallet back in 2006 that's the same style and design as the Status Anxiety Dakota wallet. Both fashion brands, not everyday carry brands. I currently use a Bellroy Zip Wallet. I also own a few Bellroy and Status Anxiety bags, and used to use a Status Anxiety wallet. So yeah, I'd say I have first hand experience.

Now my question to you: have you had experience with both Bellroy and Status Anxiety and/or The Horse?

Googling 'what is everyday carry' will explain it far better than I can.

              • @kerfuffle:

Now my question to you: have you had experience with both Bellroy and Status Anxiety and/or The Horse?

Yes to all three and I do not believe the mark up on the Bellroy products are warranted.

Googling 'what is everyday carry' will explain it far better than I can.

So I did just that, and there is absolutely no mention of what qualifies an "everyday carry" wallet. Just mentions a wallet should be part of your everyday carry. Also, looking at a lot of the pictures, it all seems like a bit of a wank to me.

                • @Munki: Then Bellroy isn't for you. Or everyday carry.

                  • @kerfuffle: No doubt it isn't, however, that wasn't my original point.

Got given some gift cards for our wedding from David Jones. Sort of need a new wallet.

This will do nicely - thanks OP!

    • +3

      Congrats on getting married!

    • +3

      Congrats to the newly weds!

      • +3

Thanks - actually coming up to two years now.

It's been quite hard to spend these vouchers at DJs. Everything is so overpriced!

    • @antonthenet is not telling the truth. David Jones died in 1873, so why would you have invited him to your wedding?

      • The internet is perfect for this.

Now we just need to form a virtual mob, and drive him and his wafu virtual wife into hiding!

    Charcoal is $99 on Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Bellroy-leather-wallet-editions-av…

May work out better if you manage to pair it with shopback or cashrewards, 6% or 8% respectively (I think; hard to work out which categories things sit within sometimes)

  • +1

This is a great wallet, and the service from Bellroy is also amazing.

I bought one in 2015, and it's still in great condition.

  • +1

Had mine about 4 years now, still going strong despite me sitting on it for 4 years. Not getting much use in Melbourne now, lockdown had rendered my wallet obsolete, 5km visits with Googlepay is the norm now, all loyalty cards digitised. Have a couple of other Bellroy products, they're good - all bought in DJ sales.

  • Bought a brand new leather wallet off ebay 5+ years ago for about $10, still going great, not sure i understand the point of spending this much money on a wallet.
And i am a back pocketeer so it gets a beating, even has my spare car key in it haha

    • Same hahaha. I guess it's because it's one of the slimmest wallet you can get with full grain/top grain leather. Rose Anvil did a review on one if you want to see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKuAYuPFd5c

      • +1

I understand why they are popular.
Back when they first came out they were one of the first to really push the slim wallet idea in a nice leather wallet form.
Plus they are Australian and the warranty was pretty good ( i know someone who's warranty was almost up and the wallet broke, Bellroy sent a new one to him).
People are always saying they want to support aussie products, plus you can go to a shop and actually hold one first before buying (pre lockdown).
So sure, why not support them?

Ive had mine since 2013. Looking a bit worse for wear but nothing is coming loose, so they are made well.

  • +1

ahh wallets, fantastic, to complete the look - make sure you tie the right kind of onion to your belt.

    • +2

They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

  • Have had this in black for 7 plus years, great wallet.

  • -8

    Does this come in Men's?

    • +10

      do you?

  • +4

I have this and not very impressed. The leather doesn’t feel luxury and easy to crease and change colours after short use. The pockets are awkward to get to when you have more than 1 card each pocket. The secret compartment is pointless.

    • +1

I agree, I don't have this specific one but had the Note Sleeve. It didn't last a month before scratches/markings that changed the colour appeared on the leather. The quality really does suck for how much you pay. I've since moved onto Pioneer wallets which are vastly superior quality for nearly the same price.

      • Yeah my wife did comment on how quick it changed appearance and thought I bought a cheapie. Interesting about the Pioneer, I haven’t heard of it before but will check it out now. Thx 🙏

      • Comparing a leather wallet to plastic lol, ok pal

Thats what leather does, it wears……..

        • Yep some wears faster than others, doesn’t need to compare with plastic. I’m just comparing with Fossil or Oroton for similar price point. I’ve owned all of them so thats my opinion.

          • @itstuan: Others are comparing it to the Pioneer which is a polyethylene/nylon (plastic) not really comparable to leather

I have/had 5 different pieces of leather ones from Bellroy with no issues

        • I've also owned other cheaper leather wallets that did not wear nearly as fast as Bellroy wallets. This isn't the natural kind of wear, there are very visible streaks/colour fade on the wallet. I have pictures on my Amazon review if you are curious https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/customer-reviews/RYZP0GY5CVMOP

          • @wangasm: Because its not normal wear and tear, its a decent gouge, done with something hard
and complaining about ' original colour underneath' is pointless as leather that dark is all dyed regardless

Mine of 3 years sitting in my back pocket and been through the washing machine has no such gouges, neither my travel one that been to 10+ countries

            • @thesainter: It hasn't been gouged with anything, I don't carry hard/sharp objects together with my wallet. As I said I've had previous leather wallets for years too without any issues. It could be specific to that model/colour or a bad batch, but seeing other people have the same issues here leads me to believe it's not just a once off. Either way it doesn't instil my confidence in the brand.

  • this is nice

I retract my statement after reading the above comment lol

  • Hell of a name for the model….

  • +1

You don't need to spend 100 bucks for a wallet that will last and look good for 5 to 7 years. My Oroton wallet was 45 bucks

  • Haven't carried a wallet in years but I had a black Bellroy in 2011 - quality wasn't great - it was leather/pleather.
    Hoping they're better quality nowadays.

    • +1

I've got a few and they're not going to stay in the new condition. The leather will age in colour and shape.

      • +1

Want a wallet that keeps its colour and shape over time? Then save heaps of money and get a plastic purse!

Real leather ages with time. As any old cow will tell you!

    • +2

pleather? As far as I know, Bellroy has always used top-grain leather (much better quality than 'genuine' leather) for their wallets. I've had 2 of their wallets since 2013, only got another one because of my first one was stolen 2 years ago. My old one still looked great, wouldn't have replaced it anytime soon if it wasn't stolen

  • :( the only thing I wanted is not on sale! 13" sleeve…

  • +1

Had this wallet for a few years - love it. Don't really use the hidden section, but it's a great regular wallet

  • Can anyone comment on the note sleeve? likes, dislikes, etc.

  • Do notes entirely fit? I hate wallets where you've got the cash sticking out the top, because the height isn't enough.

    • +1

They should fit Australian notes for sure. As it was designed by an Australian company …

    • The photos on Amazon show American notes in the wallet.
American notes are taller than Australian notes.

      • there are two sizes - HI and LO. HI is for British Notes and LO will fit AU.

  • +2

$97?? for a wallet?? this is ozbargain!!

  • Bought one. Thank you

  • You want a smooth wallet with no physical logos on the front, they will catch under your fingernails when you put your hand in the back pocket to fetch the wallet. Its painful.

  • +2

Bellroy make good wallet's . This price is a little steep . Iconic regularly has 25% sale on accessories and if you can match it up with shopback , you can get another 25% off. I bought two notes sleeves for 51$ ea

  • +1

I used Bellroy for a solid 5 years, and it was alright. Even when I did have issues with dye rubbing off on my cards & loose stitching - they sent a brand new one out to me on each of those occasions.
