I've been searching for an Ethernet Over Power (EOP) kit for a while and found Amazon has this kit for sale at US$79.99.

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Livewire-Powerline-Net…

Price here is about AU$120-$140 for one kit (2 4-port Homeplug adapters). I ordered 2 kits (4 adapters) for US$173.94 ($162.80 charged by 28 Degrees CC) included postage.

Since the Livewire adapter is a dual voltage one so have no problem to use in Oz. All you need is get the Aus adapter plug or you can replace the cable with this http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS4115&form=CAT2… . Or, do as I did, just bend the 2 prongs with plier :)

Delivery from Amazon took 8 working days to reach here. I plugged one to my router, plugged the other one behind my TV. Both devices connected instantly. I haven't measure the speed but now I can view Youtube on my TV without any problem. I did a speed test with BigPond TV and it said I have no problem with HD Movies.

Since this is a EOP devices, you must make sure your electrical wiring is compatible first before purchase this.

I don't know if you know it, but some Ethernet over PowerLine systems interfere with radio services (including Amateur Radio's HF bands).

What good is it to buy / use a system that could cause a neighbor's
    anger-level to rise?

Don't we already have lots of ways to send Internet about the place,
    ie, without doing that?

Anyone know if this system is one of the "interfering" ones?

I think the Ethernet Over Powerline you're talking about is more the Industrial Grade version ie using the Power Grid as a networking medium.
I highly doubt that home systems pack enough wattage to interfere with radio communication at any more than a few metres radius.

        This.

Also the need for it actually comes a lot of the time from close knit buildings/apartments where neighbours wireless is saturating the 2.4GHz band and wireless is no longer feasible. You can generally expect 'ideal' wireless performance from one of these kits fairly easily.

  • tp-link tl-pa211 twin pack is less than that from an australian retailer

Lacking a C tick and electrical safety certs for Australia you would be voiding your house insurance by using one.

This is a much better deal - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Netcomm-NP203-Home-Entertainment-…

Local, $79 with FREE P&P. Had these about 6 months & streams 1080p no sweat

    • hmm, tempting.

    • WD come with two 4-port adapter, very handy when you need more connections, I have 6 wired devices near my router, and another 4 at my study, and the netcomm one only have one 4-port and one 1-port,
please compare apple with apple. it's unfair to neg the deal.
BTW, I bought the WD 4 months ago from amazon, very reliable, show me stable connection speed at 175Mbps at distance of 10 meters.

  • Very good units, I've bought 2 sets (locally) for $120 and am impressed with them.

  • I just bought the tplink ones from msy for $69

    • How were they? Would it be feasible to stream 1080p mkv files via those?

  • @IVI, thanks for letting me know about that. I'll get 10 more to piss off my neighbour due to the noises he made in the early hours every Sat morning!

@mattgal & @ellave, as couger said, compare apple with apple. The reasons I got this one was due to the pair of 4-port adapters and not taking a whole double wall-plate like others (thanks to the separate power cable). Also, people on WP had posted favourable experiences with WD vs TP-link and Netcomm adapters.

@markis10, in that case, I guess 1/2 of my gadgets in the house purchased worldwide are all non C-tick. I believe C-tick just means it will not cause electromagnetic interference like radio waves, not that it is electrically safe.

EOP is a lifesaver for me. I live in a smallish house, but my laptop is the furthest away from the router. These devices are excellent.

  • i already have a pair of Netcomm NP204 200Mbps Powerline Adaptors so can i use them with WD network kit?
