Came across this, which seems pretty good value.

White version
Red version

Both sold by Amazon AU, but they are separate listings. If you click on the white colour in the 'red' listing, the price is higher.

It says 4 Watt in the listing, but it also says "1 kilowatt_hours", so you may want to install seatbelts.

Have had these for a couple of years and they put out a surprisingly good sound for such a small size. Sturdy construction too as I have knocked them off my desk a couple of times!

a desk? nice, do you also eat lobster for dinner?

      • +5

        Only the canned variety :)

      • +3

        Lol this made me laugh

    • -5

If it's your desk why did you knock them off, and did you return them and apologize to yourself?

      • +1

        Bruh lol @abacus

  • +7

you may want to install seatbelts

Thanks for the advice. Almost died.

Some say the red one provides an extra kilowatt_hours so be careful

      • +1

As much as I like red usually, the red version of these speakers look REALLY bad… I think I can sacrifice on a few kilowatt hours here :)

        • Red hot?

im going to pass, my safety is more important.

Just got one for my bedroom ITX desktop. thank you for the great post!

  • Do they break the sound barrier?

  • cant add this to cart for whatever reason

  • I am thinking of connecting this to a Micro:bit project :)

  • +1

White seems to be out of stock

    • Was there, then I took 20 seconds to read the reviews and missed my window. OOS

      • if it is a good bargain, you should first grab and then start thinking how to use it

        • +1

He didn't know if it is a bargain or not, that's why he read up on it first. Not every deal posted on OzB is good deal, some are duds.

          • @edfoo: True. Seeing post below from idonyknowwhy is reassuring I didn't miss out

    • looks like its back

  • White is sold out.

I bought this a few months ago. Ended up returning because:
    1. It sounds like shit
    2. Having it near my monitor discolored the picture.

These are not as good as the small PC speakers we used to have 10 years ago.
Edit: Luckily Amazon have free returns for change of mind.

    • +11

You're still using a CRT monitor?

    • +2

No way this sounds sus as all hell. Forget the monitor weirdness, I own these and multiple pairs of the logitech small desk speakers and both sound amazing compared to the older speakers that I bought from MSY back in 2013 for $80.

      • You… think these Edifer's sound amazing?

      • sus as all hell

In case you think I'm making it up:

Ended up keeping the M1250's. They sound even worse than the R12U, but because of the little plastic stand, they sit far up enough that they don't interfere with my monitor.

      • +1

$15 edifier sounds amazing..?? now that's sus as hell lol

    • Which small 10 year old speakers sound good?

      • +4

I have a set of ktx speakers that came with my 486 back in the days when the sound blaster had the amplifier built in so the speakers didn't. Come to think of it they didn't come with my 486, they came with my cdrom kit. They sound amazing for what they are. Some years later I picked up an identical pair except they had a built in amp and they sucked hard.

Later I got given a 'Lonsen' branded pair at work, they sounded so good when we moved offices and they were getting chucked I kept them. I tried to find out more about them, seems they might have came with a Packard Bell that someone bought. These are the only two non-branded computer speakers that surprised to me with how good they sounded over 25 odd years

Have seen these deals a few days in Amazon.com.au. I can't believe people just go crazy and buy whatever discounted without even think if they need it or if it's a good product! Keep your hard-earned money!

    • +4

For what it's worth, I didn't buy one myself as I have too many speakers. But I reckon it's a good price for those who need it, especially those that can't leave their homes. Just don't expect too much.

And BTW, this is Ozbargain - buy first, think later. You've been a member long enough that you should know ;)

    • these are actually great for laptop wfh setups. sometimes i dont want to wear headphones all day and these are vastly superior to my laptop speakers and take up no space on my desk.

  • These look like they’re straight out of the mid 2000’s.

    • I miss those times, so what a deal!

    • +2

Should go well with Winamp then.

      • +4

        It really kicks the llamas..

      • +2

It's still my media player of choice.
Ever since they unlocked the pro featurs for free, and did the recent update to 5.8 It's been even better.

Nothing has matched the speed of the winamp 'jump to' menu, nor the reliability of the included global hotkeys plugin.

Except they sound so much worse

Edifier is a good brand. Got the G2000 wireless speakers and also the Bluetooth headphones. You don't have to spend big to get good quality.

  • +2

Bought these years ago and they're good for the price. Red is certainly the better colour.

    • Why would this be marked as out of stock when red is still available?

    • Sounds better cos the sound waves travel faster too

  • +2

Only buy if you are limited to going USB-powered. Being USB-powered really limits what the speaker can do.

  • +2

thanks op, needed a set bare minimum speakers and got something that isnt entirely ugly (like many things, its subjective - i like them!) since ill probably see them more often than ill hear them. price was perfectly acceptable for the application

  • +1

LOL @ "It says 4 Watt in the listing, but it also says "1 kilowatt_hours", so you may want to install seatbelts.". XD

  • Can you use the aux input and connect the usb to power bank?

  • +1

Received my pair of Red yesterday, nice colour. Pretty decent sound from small speakers and yes hardly any bass as expected. Worth it for $15.

  • got my pair today, I think they are duds, no sound out of the right side (although the left side does actually sound pretty good).

Was also disappointed that USB powered means that they still need to be plugged in via 3.5mm headphone jack, I thought they had a little sound card built in…

    Also, 5v at 1amp, USB 2 is 500 milliamp, USB 3 is 2amp…

    • The usb protocol allows usb 2 to request more power.

The shunt on the board of almost all modern motherboards will bump the available amperage happily.

Gotta remember amps dont matter (so long as they're more); volts do.

So plenty if not all manufacturers far exceed the usb minimum.

  • Seems to be back in stock at that price.
