Bit of a shame that it's not as cheap as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646068

A decent price nonetheless, but it seems like GPU prices may be on the rise again. Keen to hear other's thoughts though.

    • +2

just my personal opinion but yes, looks to have reached the bottom of the dip, up it goes

      • +3

Crypto is back having a run at the moment so GPU prices are going up again… won't be any cheaper at least for a while

      HOLD gang admits defeat

      • Crying they didnt buy LMAO

      • Yes I was hoping it crashes. Almost pulled the trigger on the 6800xt at 1750.

Now will skip this gen and wait for the Nvidia refresh or more likely 2022 releases.

1080ti will need to hold out for another year.

      • +1

hold 1 year gang was defeated.
hold 5 years gang still holding

        • Playing the long game

  • +2

unfortunately $100 more than the last deal!

  • +1

Rip got my 6800xt for 1900 about 3 months ago

    • I got my ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Phantom Gaming D 6 months ago for 2k, it's a beast of card.

  • +4

    tempting…last component I need O_O

    • +2

      do it

    • +2

      do it

    • +1

      do it

    • +1

Just get it and start casual mining. You can earn back the amount by the end of the year which would make the total cost closer to MSRP. Exactly the same thing I'm doing with my one.

      • ooh good idea!
need to look into the mining :D

    • +2

      His name is Robert Paulson

    • Just…do…it

    • If you don't have a graphic card and want to play a game. Do it, I don't see a price drop before new gen.

    • Do it. Just finished building mine. Magnificent thing.

  • -4

this is simple, if you hold, they will have to lower it eventually since its mining power is not worth the current price.

    • +1

      ಠಿ_ಠ

According to a crypto calculator, ROI is 5 Months with FIRO. With ETH it's 6 or 7 months. Plus the retail value as profit. Minus the Power cost. Mod: See updated comment below.

      • What about taxes?

      • +1

How did you come to that conclusion? Looks like average return is $5-6 per day, that means at least a year of 24/7 mining before you even mine the cost of the GPU before tax

        • Damit.. You are right. I accidently default it to MSRP. :| Sorry for the misinformation Ozbs. It's 11 Months minimum to reach ROI.

Is there any way to remove my comment? - I Just reported my own comment. hopefully a Mod will unpublish it.

      HAHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHahahahhahah!

    • I've always wondered what goes on inside the mind of the hodler. Thank you

And done. My kids machine can have my 3080 and ill use this. Nice upgrade from a Radeon 290 for the 12yo. Cheers OP this is ~launch pricing

    • +5

What a nice parent you are lol

      please adopt me.

    • +2

Its a shame they won't notice a difference.

      • +3

He has a 240hz screen and plays fortnight. Locked 240fps will probably give him an advantage

        • +2

Seems like the most expensive way to get a fractional advantage, but who are we to tell you how to spend your cash.

Personally, RT looks awesome even if it hurts my fps too much in most AAA games to turn on fully on my 2080 at 3440x1440.

    • +6

Dad, is that you? It's me, your long lost son!

  • +3

FYI guys I picked up this card in the last deal. Replacing a 2080TI under water.

I haven't played HEAPS of games on it yet but upgraded my 3700x to a 5600x at the same time and put Windows 11 on. Very impressed with how well it all went, no issues with drivers or anything.

    Card is reasonably quiet
It's a lot bigger than my 2080TI (make sure you have decent length room, my case is a Fractal Design R6)
Decent performance uplift from 2080TI (which wasn't a slouch). Running 3840x1600 and games run very well - did benching on KCD which had some issues on launch with AMD drivers and I would say I'm getting nearly double the frames with higher texture count on average. Very technical testing!

Overall I am very pleased with the card and glad I jumped ship from the green team. Time will tell though!

    • No doubt an improvement on your 2080Ti but you'd have seen a bigger improvement with a 3080 without doubt (unless you only play Godfall and Dirty Rally 5)

      • +1

Possibly, but my experience over the years is that AMD cards seem to age better. Looking at the reviews the 6900xt and 3080 (at 4k) were mostly pretty similar.

        • What's the ray tracing performance like? Is the raw raster power enough to push a heavy RT game like control?

          • @mordinhoz: I've got a 6900XT use ray tracing in F1 2021 on max settings 2560x1440 and still get 140-160fps

          • @mordinhoz: I personally haven't tried that yet. RT wasn't something I was absolutely big on.

    • May I ask what specifically about it makes you glad you jumped ship? Just testing out Red for yourself, more VRAM, less CPU overhead etc?

  • +1

For what it's worth, the RX 6800 XT is 1799 on amazon atm. I have read some reviews that they RX 6900 XT isn't quite worth it for just gaming, with the extra power draw and not all that much of a jump up from a regular 6800, but i guess reviews are just reviews.

    • +5

In this climate $200 is not much extra to get the fastest gaming GPU you can buy.

      • +13

that's like 400 packs of mi goreng mang

        • Lol sacrifice your health with cheap food in order to get expensive GPU.

        • With a GPU you can mine crypto and afford to buy 2 packs of mi goreng a day.

Literally feeding the beggar for a day or teaching him to fish.

          • @plmko: last time i checked the 6900 xt was ~5-6$/day unless you have free power. would take close to a year before it paid for itself, if mining 24/7 and the hash rates don't change.

you're not 2 packets of noodles up each day if you've spent 2 grand to generate them :p

            • +1

@lulzenberg: You have your calculations wrong. This purchase is for your entertainment, it's a sunk cost but you can sell off your asset at anytime for more than you've paid.

In the meantime when you're not gaming you can mine enough to buy your 2 packs of mi-goreng. 8 hour sleep cycle should be enough.

              Pure lifestyle funding.

              • @plmko: i'll have to buy your ebook when it pops up for free on prime :P i am doing it all wrong

    • link to the amazon deal?

Daang. was waiting for a week to see if i could get a 6900xt for 2k.

Ended up getting a saphire 6800xt for 1.7k.

Wonder if i could flog the saphire without loss of profit and order this.

    • +3

I think that's a pretty good card, don't think you'll be too disappointed with its performance.

    • +2

      Yeah I personally wouldn't bother.

    • Where did you get 6800 xt for 1700 mate?

  • too many people are too desperate for a GPU. No wonder prices haven't gone down yet. I will wait another 2 years if I have too.

    • +1

You do that… by then you'll still be waiting for cheaper 7900XT's

      • I have decided that I will wait until next generation cards whenever that might be, and I will buy a RTX 4080 regardless what it costs.

        • Even if the 4080 cost $5,000+?

        • Why do you buy high end gpu and care about price, this is cheap as

  • Sold out… missed it by || much

worth the extra $200 for the xtxh imo

    • why so?

      • +1

its the higher binned XTXH chip, so should overclock better etc.

  • +1

    HOLD army reporting, sir!

  • Question.

I have an Acer x34P and a 1070…with g-sync, frame rate limited to 117fps and V-ysnc enabled as per blur busters instruction the gaming experience has been phenomenal

Now my 1070is getting on, if I get an ATI card can you still experience tear-free gaming on a Gsync monitor or am I tied into Nvidia now?

  • Horrible experience with these guys.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646071 - purchased it 2 weeks ago, still haven't got it and no response from customer service teams.
If there's a problem, forget about being informed what's going on with your order.

Not sure if you've seen the news, but there's a pandemic in full swing right now.
I've got a couple of Australia Post packages on the move at the moment, and they've been in progress for over 10 days. On top of those delays, many businesses have significant numbers of staff off work in quarantine/hospital/isolation - the Shopping Express warehouse is in NSW so they've probably been hit pretty hard…

  • +1

Straight up sad trying to save $200 when your time is worth so much more than waiting

  • If people keep eating this stuff up like they're starving, prices will not only stay high but keep going up.
Thanks to people who pay for this, next gen prices are going to be atrocious.

    • It's not a zero sum game, more demand for cards will in time drives prices down over the long term.
The whole substrate chip shortage and car manufacturers thirst for chips is driving prices up in the short term.
Intel is bring GPU chip fabs online in US in few years, thus making a more competitive market.

Damnit just bought from pcbytes for $2099 couples of days ago. Good find.

  • Is the XFX Radeon version better or worse ?
