ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Phantom Gaming D 16GB OC GPU $1899 + Delivery @ PCByte

1390

PCbyte is selling this for the price of a 6800 XT on Umart.
I’ve been thinking this is going to be perfect for those who bought Asrock b550 taichi when it was on sale. You can control the RGB with one app, maybe, hence the update.

(profanity) ive been hodling hard but this is tempting

  • +8

    Deep breath… I don't need this

  • +14

You guys need to stop posting these deals. I'm gonna cave!

  • Pretty good deal if you are in the market for it.

  • +2

Finally, pulled my triger…Great find OP!

    • +5

      Not the tiger :(

  • HOBL

    • +1

      HODOR

      • +32

        HODLEN COMMODORE64

  • What was the rrp for this?

    • 1000 USD

    • +13

It's $1,599 from what I can find, which kinda lines up with exchange rate + gst vs the US price.

If prices were normal, it would be ridiculous to buy this card over the 6800xt or 3080 though. It overclocks well and is a few percent faster than those other two cards, but priced at 50% more, it's for nerds to flex their e-wiener. At this price it's a different story.

If you want ray tracing, buy a 3080. If you play a lot of games that don't use ray tracing and have a 4k/120hz screen or something, then this would be a pretty fun card to have.

      • Lol yep. I didn't buy to flex as my mates don't care but agree on the price diff. I usually keep stuff a good 5 years so should be perfect.

      • Definitely recommend the 6800xt as the overclockability varies a lot on 6900xt cards. Although I was leaning towards team green with better ray tracing performance and DLSS.

My sapphire 6900xt with its triple fan hits a stable 2.54ghz at the stock 265w and I've been able to get it to boost to 2.75ghz when I let the power go up to 300w, haven't been able to get it to go further since mine is from the early batches with a voltage lock in the card bios. That being said, I've got a friend who's got one of the water-cooled Asus models with the supposed better binned chip and his card is unstable above 2.34ghz at 300w.

  • +1

I have this card, they have a nice heatsink but are let down by the power delivery, less phases than some of the competition from Asus, Powercolor, Sapphire and EVGA. Makes them run a bit hotter. But MSI and Gigabyte fall into the same boat.

    • +1

i got a 6800 xt version and have no issues with heat or anything , runs great, silent as

      • Which games so you play on this card?

        • You can play everything and anything, older games 200 fps easy, paired with a g7 monitor is a dream

          • +1

@botchie: No idea what this old game you are talking about is, but if you are using a 6900xt you might as well make use of it with graphic intensive games. No?

What's the point of claiming absolute silent gaming if all you are running is Pacman on it?

    • What’s the noise like on it? I’m running a g12/x62 on my 2080ti and tbh this is the biggest reservation I have is the noise levels

      • I can't hear a thing, it's off when not gaming and when gaming the fans are real silent , I do have a silent case though and heat is not an issue

        • Thanks for replying. What sort of case do you have btw?

I’ve been real reluctant to go back to an air cooler but seems there’s very little aio options at the moment for rdna cards

          • @Wally Simmonds: Fractals define 6

            • @botchie: Great! Same case as mine :)

              • @Wally Simmonds: yeah, no issues, you have to take out front drive bits to fit the card but i never used that and i have air flow out the back of the case - basically have 4 fans at front, and remove that sound dampening foam from top and let it all get pushed out that way, good airflow

  • +2

Hnnnnnnng that is a good deal.

    Nice one OP.

  • +6

I was still waiting for the 3080 I ordered in December.. no regrets jumping on the last 6900XT deal (1999 inc delivery for the XFX Merc Black). It's honestly a fantastic card. Been playing everything on max at 5120×1440. Did a lot of research at the time, and it's hard to go with a 3080 at this price.

    • Merc is killer in terms of cooling.

  • i want to get this, but my PSU is 650W…

    • How many watts we need?

      • +1

A lot, 850+ at the bare minimum. Bear in mind the card also needs 3 8 pin pcie power connections as well

        • +2

helps to put me off, cheers! i need a new case and psu then

        • +2

not enough apparently, trigger pulled! I'll decide if i want it later..

        • +4

          no no no no no
no you do not need 850 at the bare minimum to run a 6900 XT

          • @SuperMrBlob: i have 500 so it won't matter if i need to buy anyway!

          • @SuperMrBlob: Yes you do.
If the Asrock says 900watt for warranty reasons they can reject your claim for not following recommendations on a warranty claim.
Or run 600watt psu with this card booting up Cyberpunk 2077 and wonder why the computer shuts down. Your call.

        • +2

No idea why someone would downvote when you've basically stated what's on the AsRock website for the power requirements (3x 8pin), and AMDs website (850w+). Sure it's stated 900w on AsRock's site, but never ceases to amaze me that people downvote facts.

Hell, even articles on the net have stated that there's a power spike issue with these cards and that some have needed 1000w PSUs with separate 12v rails to minimise the impact of the spike (reportedly measured at up to 600w !!!).

Gave you an upvote though, 'cause what you've stated is pretty well true.

          • +1

@Revrnd: Yeah, some people don’t understand that a 350w rated GPU could have transient spikes of up to 500w if you are overclocking and your PSU needs to be able to handle that without the quality of its power output reducing. People complaining of stutter and random crashes are often using poor quality or under rated PSU’s which cause the chip to run less stable.

    • +10

I've got this card running on a corsair SFF 750W
No issues even at 100% load

    • +1

They recommend 750-850w but tbh I don't see mine pull any more than 300w even in rage mode. I think a good 650w PSU would do it but you're not leaving yourself much head room so I'd worry about longevity.

  • Is the Merc 319 version better? $70 more on Amazon.

  • Nice!

  • +1

    Fantastic price!

I had the asrock 6800 xt from umart sale and it did pretty good.

Thermals were decent but I did get a humming sound.

Cant go wrong at this price for a 6900xt if ur not gonna want to do raytracing.

    • +1

That humming sound could be coil whine. My 2080 super does this when it runs games at crazy high FPS (like 200-300 FPS, which is obviously only in older games). The fix for me is just cap game FPS to my monitor refresh rate using RivaTuner.

  • +1

damnn is this worth? ive also been hodling but im tempted. I'm hesitant to spend this much and miss out on DLSS/better ray tracing performance

    • -2

these card are really not for gaming - you are better off with 3080 or 6800 xt,, even for few $100 less but its a good price for this one…

      • 3080 and 6800xt never seem to be in stock for anywhere near msrp tho :(

      • What are they for then if not for gaming?

      • I game on mine (6800xt, so model down) frequently (and mine ETH when not gaming, $5USD a day) and it runs perfectly. Ultra settings (and some extra tweaks for better quality) on rdr2 gets me around 80fps which is more than sufficient for my 60hz 4K tv. GTAV with everything maxxed out gets about the same. Far cry 5 and new dawn both get around 120fps maxxed out also. Evidently the 6900xt is around a 17% boost on the 6800xt and at the same price so it's a no brainer if you're deciding between both.

Tempted to purchase this and run in crossfire mode, but have read some horror stories on stuttering and lack of support for some titles.

        • +1

crossfire/SLI just seems completely dead at this point, and at these price points it almost doesn't make sense unless your the 01%'rs

  • Will a Corsair RM750 PSU cut it for this card?

    • +8

yes it'll be fine, i run mine on corsair sf750 with a 5950X + asrock 6900xt without issues even at 100% load.

      • Oooof really? I have an eGPU, when the PS in it blew I went max and replaced it with a Corsair SF750 so I’d be future proof.

        I kept telling myself I probably couldn’t run a 6900XT…. noooooooo

      • Ooft that's a lot of kit. What case are you running it in?

      • What’s the thermals/noise like on the 6900xt?

    • Probably if it's gold, but you always want a bit extra in case of extra power draw :o

  • I've been tossing up the various 6800xt/3080 deals over the last week. This is enough of a discount to get me to bite. Cheers op.

  • Tempting….

  • +2

Been holding for a year… Finally decided due to BF2042 coming out soon…Time for the RX 580 that has been running at ultra wide to have a rest :D.. Thanks OP

    • +2

If your rx580 is 8gb, you can sell it for $500 like I did 2 weeks ago ;)

      • Yeah exactly what I was going to do… Saw the recent sales on ebay averaging around $500… insane.

        • +1

yeah crazy. I bought my rx580 8gb for $200 as second hand also in Feb 2020, but sold it for $531, July 2021. hahahahahaa

  • I'm Getting the Red devil 6800xt, Should be better than 3080ti. plus top thermal and noise control

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwfAbGo9OJw

    • +14

Spoiler alert, it's not better than the 3080ti.

  • Hey guys, is ray tracing. SAM etc. for AMD still a thing in the near future on 6900xt?
Haven't heard much news about it since they announced it at beginning of this year.

I'm running on 5900xt, would be better to have AMD graphic card if they have those.

    • Ray tracing no, maybe if one day there's an fsr ray traced game it'll be ok otherwise if you really need Ray tracing go nvidia and I suggest something like 3070 and up… SAM has always been available but some games benefit, some don't… Otherwise rasta type performance of this card is between 3080 and 3090.

  • Do I hold!!!!!!???? someone stop me.

    • +1

For what? Next next gen? Why not lol… Saves us money if we keep holding….

In saying that when it comes to top end waste of sand big baller gpu market…. This is decent price… If your a baller then go for it!!

  • hard to resist this one

  • -3

Why so expensive? Supposed to be cheaper than 3080 lol

    • +1

Since when?!? This is $US 1k card… For founders msrp that is… Higher for third party…

      Also I didn't neg you…. :)

      • +1

It is not supposed to be cheaper but 3080 is more expensive at some points thanks to miner.

  • +1

You know the market is knackered when an $1800 GPU is being classified by some folk as tempting 🤮

    • +1

Appropriate music when purchasing such cards….

    • +5

I think all these high prices are here to stay unfortunately. Sure, a lot can be blamed on semi conductor shortages, but I have a feeling that printing billions of dollars has also had an effect.

      • +2

1000% agree… If people are paying this type of money it'll be here to stay till they don't…

        • +1

yep agree with you all, same as cars, houses, iphones etc. This is market testing in real time and the market will take it. All that printed money certainly doesn't hurt.

        • 100% was thinking the same, If these sell out in hours. Why on earth would they lower the prices? people are obiously willing to pay this absurb amount without question

  • booooooooo got me, so good

  • That is one ugly and tacky cooler.
    Good price though.

  • +1

So tempting. Really need to upgrade my Radeon R9 290.

    • Patiently waiting with my r9 280 (really a 7970)… waiting on a 6800 xt deal

  • Really tempting however im waiting for an all white build.

  • +1

Managed to make me add to cart, well done. Literally saved by a screaming child.

  • Anyone know what the temps are like on this? Not sure if cramming this into a SFF Meshlicious case is a good idea…

*edit, nevermind - 330mm long, stretching the case to the absolute limit and probably won't work in my current configuration..

    • The triple fan setups can run pretty cool in sff cases if you are willing to play with the fan profile. I've got a sapphire 6900xt running an aggressive fan profile in a jonsbo v8 case, GPU stays under 65C with the hotspot hitting 80C. I wouldn't try it with the stock fan profile though unless you like the hotspot going over 100C.

  • -7

I have 3 3080s non lhr and a 5700xt should I buy this to add to my collection of money makers.

    • Yes you should.

    • No, get 3 6600 xt instead.

  • +2

OMG this is soooooo tempting :'(. I have a 1080ti and I need to upgrade however, I'm stuck between this card and the 3080.

    • +2

If you want RT and DLSS then it's easy choice… Otherwise this is a tad bit quicker…

To be honest a 1080ti is probably fine for the next year or two especially if FSR takes off…. It'll give new life to your card… I'd save my money for the possibility of crypto bubble bursting and market getting flooded…. It's a gamble though 🙂

      • I'm seeing that to as an option to keep my 1080ti for a little longer. I'm just worried if Crypto picks up again and I would be stuck with my GPU for years :s.. God I hate the market

        • +2

Yeh I know and you could be right… I'm sure you can also sell your 1080ti for good money so see what the difference may be if you sold yours then make the decision…

          • +1

@scud70: Yep this is a good point. It won't make up entirely for.the inflated prices but certainly some amount. 1080 ti still seem to be going circa $800 for the good ones.
