Just purchased the Ultra at $1199.

My order confirmation looks like this:

Edit: My trade in value is only 5$ due to a cracked back panel, so I'm just going to hand down the phone and be charged 5$.

    So i received my phone today and also received the email re: trade up

    The following paragraph is from the attached t&c

    "Device Non-Return Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when
    Your unique Trade ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device
    Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions."

    To me it seems as though they've changed, and they will be debiting the total discount applied which would include the bonus.

    There is no longer any mention of an admin fee.

      • Im going to contact them today to confirm what the penalty will be for non return, if they tell me that I'll be charged the the full amount I'll be returning the phone under the 14 day cooling off period

        • Who are you going to contact? Samsung or Asurion? The trade in money is Asurions, the bonus money is Samsungs, so you'll have to contact both to get a clear answer. Samsung doesn't care about the trade in money and Asurion doesn't care about the bonus money. Just be aware of that.

        • If you check the wordings in the order, it specifically separated the 2.

          "Your trade in discount plus your $200 trade in bonus has been applied. Bonus $200 offer ends 10.09.2021 Promotion was applied to your order total "

          In Asurion's TnC, it only says "discount". Nothing about the bonus.

          • @bawawaw: Hopefully you're right, I've sent an email requesting the specific penalties for non return so I'll post the response once received.

            My main concern was that the t&c I read on the day of purchase also mentioned an admin fee of $60 for non return, however, the new t&c don't mention the $60 admin fee.

            The fact that admin fee has been removed coupled with the legally ambiguous wording is a cause of concern for me

          • @bawawaw: Asurion will tell you that they have no interest in the bonus. But like I said, that's Samsung's money, so you need to talk to them about it.

            Thanks for your query, if you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit you received at checkout when purchasing your new device. After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. You will be charged a $60 administration fee on top of the full trade-in credit for not returning the device. We hope that this information has been helpful.

            Unfortunately, we do not have the exact time frame of when you will be charged, this is an automated process and the charge should occur after 14 days has passed since you were sent your return label. To make the process as easy as possible please keep the funds available in your account.

            You may receive some reminder emails about returning your old device which you can ignore if you’re planning to keep that device.

              If you don't mind just clarifying…does this mean if you don't send in your device you will be charged phone value (e.g. $50) + $500 (trade-in bonus) + admin fee ($60)? Or just phone value + admin fee.

              Also, do you know what you are charged if you send in a 'Mis-graded' device which is actually worth $0. Is this considered like a 'non-return'?

              • @yoyo12: I took it to mean that you will be charged the phone value only + $60 and keep the bonus. As @wombat81 said, i actually am just some internet rando and the only way to know is to contact Samsung, my response was from Asurion. I couldn't find anything in the samsung t&c.

                I changed my mind & was planning on sending my trade in but when I removed the screen protector i legit discovered a small crack in the screen. If my device was reassessed, it would be worth $0

                Someone else also mentioned that the t&c haven't really changed since the last deal apart from the additional $60 admin fee for non return.

              • @wantvsneed: I still haven't been charged by Asurion but I'm fairly certain that the bonus discount won't be affected. I've started using the new phone.

                They give you 14 days to return the trade phone after you receive your new phone from Samsung.

                I did receive a follow up email from Asurion stating I would be charged $20 (trade value) if the phone wasn't sent within 7 days. The email made no mention of the $60 admin fee either, only the trade value of $20.

                I think Asurion/Samsung are well aware that people are abusing the trade up program, I honestly think they just don't care at this stage.

                • @Mose88: Thanks for the update. I agree they are well aware of this loophole but probably to keep the sale high, running the program. Anyway, the cost of phone to them would not be more a 200-300 aud and the must still be making money.

                  @Thunder-Wombat: I haven't been charged yet. Going by previous deals & posts it would seem that we'll be able to keep the bonus discount but I can't guarantee anything.

                  I enquired with Asurion but the response i received is still ambiguous and doesnt explicitly state that we wont penalised any further than the trade in phone value and admin fee.

                  I still haven't opened the new phone yet and I'm hoping Asurion debits their fee before the 14 day cooling off period expires.

    • What did they say to you? Apparently you need to have a phone that is in need of repair and is out of warranty to receive the "Loyalty Voucher"

    • i followed along Miss B (earlier in the thread), but I said something like "I was wonder if there are any other discount voucher, I am looking at getting S21 Ultra" after I asked for assistance on the $50 sign up code. I got the code $100 code in the same chat.

      maybe try again…like phone support, depends on agent?

    Do Samsung have staff? Had chat windows open for hours with no response.

      Like you, I couldn't get a live Chat session to work the other night so I gave up.
      I later saw a comment suggesting the Chat works better in normal business hours.
      So I tried the next (weekday) morning and got through fairly quickly.
      I still had to send photos of front (showing IMEI number from 'Settings', probably to prove that it was a legit Australian phone) and the rear of the phone.
      Got a $100 Loyalty Voucher while on the Chat - took about 20-30mins.

    • It might be worth around $5 I guess. I had a S10+ with a cracked screen and it was worth only $5. Makes it easy coz the non-return fee I'll need to pay is only $5.

    • Yes I got charged today. $105, the amount my phone was valued at by them. No $60 admin fee and no trade bonus value deducted.

      Sold the pone for $400 on FB Marketplace.
