    3M Thinsulate Eco Featherless Insulation

That's gotta be one of the silliest marketing terms I've heard in a while

  • This warmer than the macpac halo?
50D gives a bit more wind resistance. But no hood unfortunately

    • +1

As warm as 700 fill power down. As per Marmot.com
      Halo is 600 fill power.

      • Yep saw that, just not sure how to convert the weight:down ratios because synthetic is heavier.
Going to pick this up over the other featherless hoodie which looks too lightweight.

        • For 89 bucks, can't go wrong i suppose.

    • +3

Doubt it's as warm as Macpac Halo. This will also likely be heavier as the fill is synthetic.

  • looks good

  • +1

I have one of these, very comfy and warm. Paid more for it as well.

  • How is this with sizing say compared to the Macpac Halo?

    • +2

Yeah tough one. Macpac I wear S but normally am M.

I think it's slightly smaller than the macpac from the measurements…but on the Marmot website a 88 kg, 6ft1" person was wearing a M.
      So I got an S. We'll see.

  • Any tips on size? Is it like Macpac?

  • promo code is not valid anymore

I got BIRTHDAY10 to work after a couple of tries

        Thank you. Got one

I'm still wearing my Rab microlight 10 years on from when I got for it for free from delayed luggage insurance.

Was the best feeling walking into that shop in Queenstown, not knowing anything about good gear, and picking out the most expensive jacket.

Hard to go back to anything less now.

I don't mean to be rude, but I'm struggling to see the significance of your (cool) story to this deal.

      • +1

Don't go near the forums then…
Relationship to bargains in the forum subjects is non existant.

A story? More of an allegory. But to the point of that post, was a good jacket was classed as essential clothing when travelling, as defined by STA Travel. That was a travel operator in those days. But the funny thing was, I did actually have a knitted jumper in my backpack which would null and void any insurance claim. That jacket was pure wool, some called it a mamie-sweater, which was the style at the time. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, "Wrap it round your waist, quick! So it looks like pants!" my girlfriend said as we stood outside Fergburger, which was more of a garage building back then. "Give me a burger on two," you would say. Which was the best burger for $2.

    • I have the Rab Microlight Alpine too.
I like it a lot - lightweight, highly compressible and warm (enough).

These Marmot jackets are a bit heavier, than what I'm used to :-\

      • +1

Yeah I agree….ideally I'm holding out for a Rab Electron pro or an 800 down count equivalent which was on special when I was in the UK but I missed the half price deal for 150 pounds for 800 down count 20D with hoody and weighs the same as a Macpac Halo. TBH it's probably overkill in Aus.

Now have been holding out for an 800 count one but unlikely to get it anywhere near that price in Aus so will just keep looking out for one that will be a suitable hiking midlayer.

Synthetic jackets are heavier, but do better in the wind/wet. Not much to lose at 89 bucks too.

    • Pretty cheap for a jacket. Would've thought a 1k ultralight was possible

  • Non available in Darwin. Buggah

Don’t worry, summer is coming, you don’t need it!

  • Marmot Men's Alassian 100% Polyester Jacket Navy $99 (Was $349) @ Anaconda.

For the same price, when on discount, I much prefer the Macpac Halo 100% duck down jacket.

    • +4

There is a difference and both have their place.
Duck Down = Dont get it wet as it clumps and loses thermal insulation.
Polyester = Fine to get wet and no loss of thermal insulation also easier to maintain/clean.

and recycled fibre/synthetics are more sustainable and less animal cruelty as well :).

Looks like small is out of stock. Wonder how true to size, was going to return a Superdry as the medium was massive.

Anyway Qld doesn't get that cold so may not bother.

        • +2

The conditions and processes for the animals involved in the down industry are absolutely horrible, which alone should justify the selection of alternative materials.

      • I know the difference between both but I always prefer duck down or wool over polyester.

  • +1

Exactly what I need in a hot summer at 45+ degrees coming soon…

    • +2

Exactly, $100 is a lot to spend to sit a around in the cupboard for a year

  • Women's also reduced to $99 skittish"low stock" on most size/color combos
