That is a very good deal for an excellent series. Thank you!

  • The Pacific - the thing that made me realise that I do not want to fight in a war if I can avoid it.

    • I think the super strain of COVID will be wiping us out before any world wars will so don't worry.

  • Both are amazing series. Watched each at least 3 times growing up. Made me really interested in World War 2 since they explore both the European and Pacific front. A lot more gore than I expected (but realistic I guess?). Many of the actors here went on to become big-time in either TV Series or movies. Highly recommend.

    • For the Pacific, They really ramped up the gore ie the explicit depictions of injuries rather than the old red tomato sauce packets from the 70s. I’m glad they did as we are used to such sanitised depictions of war and bullet wounds from modern action movies.

Both of them brilliant series that should be shown in modern history class.

great memories watching band of brothers on a 6th gen ipod with a friend of mine on the bus to school every morning 10+ years ago

    • Haha that’s awesome - such nostalgia

  • +2

    Wow. Stellar deal! Thanks OP

Can’t believe The Pacific was 11 years ago. Loved that it featured Melbourne

  • +1

Don't like, favour nor believe in wars, but I'll watch anything to do with it. Could be documentaries, movies or TV shows. Go figure. 🤔

BTW both are great shows, specially Band of Brothers. Really tempted to grab it with my Google Rewards even though I got both series in BD already.

    • The Omaha beach scene of Saving Private Ryan really changed the way I looked at war movies. I was used to the old matinees and OTT Rambo sequels where heroes barely take a scratch. That opening changed the way I looked at gunfire scenes in movies. And The Pacific rammed it home.

      • 'Combat' was/is a phenomenal series as well. Great action where everyone gets scratched rather badly.

'Come and See' is also a great, harrowing Russian WW II movie.

  • I got the DVD boxset, couldn't be other putting it in the DVD drive to watch, so I bought this :), thanks OP.

  • How do you find out when they expire?

    • Typically only last a year

    • The Google play credits or the movies?

      Credits last a year.

    • If you go to Play Store -> Payment Methods it will show you the next expiration date and how much is due to expire

I bought blu rays set from Dick Smith before they closed for around $15 may be?

    • Yep, I managed to find one then too

  • +9

Thanks this is awesome, Band of Brothers is my all time favourite show. Own the box set.

    • Agree - it's soooooo good!

  • +1

What's the quality / bitrate like for Google Movies & TV?

    • +4

Fairly sure HD is classed as 720p.

I just bought it and watched a couple scenes. Doesn't look amazing… Not terribly sharp on my 1440 monitor and image looks too compressed like where it's meant to be a smooth gradient in colour but it's blotchy.

    • Can't give you exact details but it's bad, especially for a masterpiece like this. You are doing yourself injustice by not watching this in blu-ray

    • I often get audio sync issues with Google Movies for some reason

  • +8

Hoping Masters of the Air will be good.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific also on Binge. Another option is to get a 1 month subscription to Binge.

  • Wish it was same price on itunes.

    Great series.

  • +3

What a buy! +9999 recommend getting it.

Band of Brothers is one of the best representations of the horrors of war and the journey of Easy Company.

Don't expect the same from The Pacific. Still good, not the same.

    • Yeah, not as much character stuff but the explicit stuff was a good decision. Listen to Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History pod on Supernova in the East and you’ll have a better idea of war than the vast majority of the population

  • +3

Yeah band of brothers was a great show.

  • +2

Quick search and the same double-series pack is available at JB-Hifi on Blu-ray for $34.99 linky link.

  • +1

Quality shows both of them. Band of Brothers is the better of the two, but both are excellent and this is a bloody good price.

  • Both are amazing shows. The D Day drop was very well done.

  • So there are two separate shows? Listing shows 1 season - 20 episodes?

    • Yes

    • +1

It's 2 shows, 10 episodes each, but in this case it's treated as one single unit (hence showing as 1 season, 20 episodes).

The way Google Play video works is ****ing stupid. They really need to overhaul it. Not sure if Apple works the same way or have something tidier.

Eg I bought the complete series of The Sopranos on Google ages ago. When I wanted to watch it, I had to ensure I picked "The Complete Series" in my library, because that's the one I own. If I went to "season 1", for example, it would want me to pay for it because I didn't buy the individual season, I only bought the complete series. It's really messy.

      • They recently dropped Goolge Play app in my LG TV (which I had just got) now they expect your to watch through YouTube App.. which is horrendous and doesn't even work or display the tv shows or movies nicely. For example I have the Starwars movies, and it list those out of order and mixed up with what seems like dozens of 'extras' clips and trailer for some reason - like 4 or five TV screens of media to scroll though. If I even wanted to play those clips it tells me there is an error… like they have added them to my account when I should not have them. Theres a reason why my Plex library is massive and I still buy physical media.

        • Hmm is the LG TV not Android TV? I've got a Sony with Android TV and the Google Play app is still there.

I'd probably use the Chromecast option from my phone rather than resort to using the YouTube app for anything except funny cat videos.

          • @AngusD: Yes I have it on Sony TV as well. The changes made by Google dont affect Sony.

        • Same thing on my Samsung TV… I never LOVED the Google Movies app but now using the Youtube app makes me miss it heaps!

  • Any good Google Play card deals lately? Feels like I never see them.

  • Would you buy on Youtube or Play Store? It seems the 2 platforms are not compatible with each other…

    • +1

You can watch what you purchased on Google play store on YouTube.

Go to Library in YouTube, and then "Your movies and shows"

      • Avengers: Age of Ultron, John Wick 2 in my Library, on web browser only allow 480p, on phone the same not sure why.

Seem a bit better with Google Chromecast TV.

  • Google rewards…..HD purchased.

  • Hell yeah America KKona

  • +1

I've still got the original VHS (foldout box-set style).

Got a PS2 so could update to DVD box set (again, foldout box-set).

Updated again to Blu Ray when Dick Smith closed (purchased along with Rocky BR set)

Whilst The Pacific is great, the characters just didn't grip me as much as BOB.

Band of brothers is one of those shows that I wish I could forget so that I could watch it for the first time again. Great mini series.

  • Damn, I remember watching Band Of Brothers every term break in high school.

    What a series.

  • This is also available to purchase on YouTube

    • It's basically the same thing. If you buy it on Google, you can watch it either on Google Play or YouTube. And vice versa, presumably, although I haven't tried it that way.

  • +1

I remember in The Pacific when Merriel Shelton is throwing stones into that japs dude half blown off head 😳.

  • +2

As others have said BoB is excellent and one of my all time best/favourite series. The Pacific not quite as good (but what you expect after BoB?) but still outstanding

    • Agreed. BoB was unbelievable.

  • +2

Massive fan of both of these series.
Hopefully they do their magic with this….
    http://amblin.com/tv/masters-of-the-air/

  • Would like it to be remastered with Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Would be awesome!

  • Awesome series. I've never brought anything from Google movies.
Do you get to keep it forever or is it just like renting for a certain period of time?
    Thanks

    • If you buy, then you get to keep it in your google account, can watch anytime, download to watch offline, share in family library, etc.
I want to say forever, but for whatever reason forever doesn't seem like the correct word for it.
Renting a movie will give you 30 days access with 48 hours time limit from when you start watching.
There will be 2 different buttons for buy or rent.
From a quick look, Rent is more for movies, while for TV series it's usually Buy.

      • Thanks for the info.

      • Are all the Blu ray goodies in there? Picture in picture commentary, extra contents?
Own one of them on blu ray. Trying to resist buying this…

        • Just checked, no additional features. Still worth it though in my opinion as you can watch this anywhere on any device. Hope it helps.

        • I have the box there is a bonus disc in there
