As a “fancy” Zigbee bulb that’s a pretty good price. There aren’t too many other options other than Philips Hue, and they normally go for >$30.

If you're okay with wifi based bulbs, you can get the Lenovo smart bulb range from the good guys and it works out to just under $15 a bulb, since they have BOGOF atm. Those filament bulbs also have dual colour temperature
so if Ibuy a Phillups Hue hub/gateway, this will work this this bulb? the hue bulbs are super expensive
it should but unless you're investing in the philips hue ecosystem it may not be worthwhile. You can get some alexa speakers and google home speakers with build in zigbee hubs that might be more convenient
Isn't the whole point of the hue if net drops I can still access my bulbs via my router?
There's many more features than that that are far more important. ZigBee doesn't use your router and hence doesn't strain your network. It also offers a much longer range in which devices can work by passing signals along ZigBee devices. And it uses a lot less power so battery powered devices last a lot longer.
