Yes they do protect against bushfire smoke. Here's a link to some reading material about P2 respirators and bushfire smoke. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/blog/do-face-masks-protect-y…

As for the N95 masks at Bunnings, I've not tried them myself so I don't feel comfortable recommending one over the other. There's a bit more info on our website re: the naming conventions of the masks if that helps. https://www.australianp2mask.com.au/faq/

      • Would you be able to explain what touching them does to their pm2.5 filtration capability? Do they lose filtration when touched and do the fibres break down 24 hours after being removed from their packaging?

    • You'd probably want something with carbon in it as well to help filter out the smell of the smoke.

  • +1

How do they compare to those (also Aussie made, $89.95 with free shipping)? https://ppetech.com.au/collections/p2/products/face-mask-50-…

    • +1

Not all masks are created equal. P2 & FFP2 is just a certification that requires PFE of above 94% which these masks achieve with a 98% PFE I believe. AMD P2 Respirators provide 99.66% PFE and 99.92% BFE. I can't attest for their fit and comfort as I've never tried theirs so I won't comment on that.

  • Are these disposable mask and only for 1 time use?

    • Yes, they are disposable masks and it's highly recommended that you do not use them more than once. There are a lot of variables, ensuring that your hands are disinfected, being in an environment where it's not going to compromise you removing the mask, where the mask will be while you're not wearing as just a few examples. That's why we can not recommend multiple uses of the same mask.

      • +1

It might not be recommended, but I think it's a waste of money to be throwing out these every time you use one.

They are rated for 24 hours of continuous use, so if the only risk is touching the mask when you remove / apply it, it seems incredibly low risk to just re-use them.

Surface transmission is very rare and you can just take care to disinfect your hands and let masks sit for a few days between uses. You're gonna have to touch them when you take them off anyway.

        • +1

You might not be wrong but if the manufacturer or seller recommended that it would be outside their P2 certification as they are certified only as single use respirators.

        • +2

Not sure why he got down voted. We go for walks etc sometimes, take it off and reuse later on or even the next day.
It depends on the situation and your ability to wash hands etc.

For all the talk about surface transmission from Pizza boxes etc earlier in the pandemic, I don't believe there is even one proven recorded example of surface transmission occurring. This has actually been noted in many articles I've read even recently.
Its all hypothetical studies or people posting on forums.

          • @fusion17: Probably downvoted by the seller. I get it though, they'll sell tonnes more masks if everyone is throwing them out after a single use and going through a box of 50 per week.

            • @Keplaffintech: I've only changed the P2 mask weekly, about 4hrs use daily. They are highly reusable and hold up well to scrunching in pockets, folded in bags etc

Just let them air for few hours each time you take them off, or rotate between 3-4 pieces a week and use them upto a month.

YMMV obviously eg. if you sneeze into them and they get a bit gross

        • If surface transmission is rare, why do clean up teams decontaminate surfaces by spray and wipe? Seems pointless and a focus on the wrong risk

          • +1

@inamberclad: Well the fog machines they use seem to linger and decontaminate the air too.
But honestly I feel it's just to make people feel 'Safe to return.'

Alot of things need to occur for surface transmission.
Symptomatic person sneezes/coughs into hand then Opens a door before he's washed it or the virus dissapates over time
            You open door
You then pick or scratch your nose or rub your eyes before sanatising or washing

This is easily preventable. My Process at work was:
Elevator, finger scanner for clocking on, door knob>hand sanatise

Meanwhile anyone with covid simply stands next to you indoors for a short while, even when both wearing the average mask and there isn't much you can do but hope.

          • +1

@inamberclad: Fomite transmission is proven not to be as significant as thought, I think it is mostly 'pandemic theatre' now wiping down surfaces and the like. Perhaps it is wise to wipe down surfaces that are well frequented regardless. What needs to change is ventilation.

From what I understand there needs to be a 'critical mass' of virus ie a few thousand RNA particles you need to breathe in, so the idea is that wearing a mask, especially P2/N95 can reduce the aerosol viral load to the point where you are possibly not infected, or the infection is less severe.

  • +2

That is cheap for an AMD, Probably a Ryzen 5.

  • Looking for something for the kid (10 years old) for when she has to go back to school. Rest of us can get vaccinated so bit worried about the little one.

Do you sell any kid sized masks? Will these fit?

    • +3

Unfortunately, that's not something we currently sell. We've had a lot of interest in it and with schools opening up we've passed that feedback to AMD. They are definitely looking into it.

  • Thanks OP.

    Bought one mate. Cheers.

      You're very welcome!

    Hi OP,
Manager of a GP clinic here
Are these certified for medical use as well?

  • I bought a 50 pack of these from a reseller. I was set to purchase directly but there was no Paypal option and I'm hesitant to enter my credit card details directly into a smaller website.

    • +1

I hope you got it for a similar price! I totally understand your hesitancy but we do use Stripe as our payment gateway and we never see your complete CC details and everything is encrypted. While we don't use Shopify, any website that's built on that platform is essentially using Stripe as well to take payments to my knowledge.

      • It was during the first sale and it was the same price as you guys were offering back then. Thanks for the info about the payment processing.

    • They also have google pay

    • +1

Zip Pay 1-time card is what I've used until now for all merchants that don't have Paypal.

Is ARTG335981 the unique ID for this product?

    • I believe so. EDIT: If you go to the TGA website you'll be able to search that code. Sorry I didn't know 100% earlier.

      • Hmm, searching the TGA https://www.tga.gov.au/testing-face-masks-and-respirators?se…

What does it mean by fluid resistance - non-compliant?

        • @AustralianP2Mask can you respond to this? I'm interested in knowing also.

        • +1

          https://www.tga.gov.au/publication/guidance-medicalsurgical-…

[TGA requirements for fluid resistance testing]

"Fluid droplets generated by coughing, sneezing or some medical procedures are widely acknowledged to be a source of pathogen transmission, including the COVID-19 virus[1],[2],[3]. To effectively prevent disease transmission through fluid droplets, face masks must include a fluid resistant barrier. Fluid resistance will aid in preventing large droplets and splashes from reaching the mouth or nose, potentially transmitting the virus or other infectious agents. For this reason, the TGA requires face masks intended to be used in medical or surgical settings to be resistant to fluid penetration."

          @AustralianP2Mask ?

  • Why not get the $20 pack of 10 from CW?

    • They sell the same mask? We've been trying to get a good smaller sized package, if you have a link that'd be really helpful!

      • +1

I think she/he is refering to Softmed N95 Face Masks.

And, Aussie Pharma Direct is selling AMD P2 masks in pack of 10 in a zipper bag.

        • +1

Oh thanks for sharing! Hmm, that's strange because the manufacturer doesn't provide them in that size. I can't say for certain but they might be repackaging them from the original 50 piece box. We'd rather not do that as we have a policy of as minimal handling as possible of any product direct from manufacturer.

        • I've been using those and they are a step up from the regular surgicals. I'm hoping these AMD ones will be a nice step up again.

  • +1

I bought these in the previous deal and they're pretty decent.

Not a very good seal as they use a very weak wire on the nose part. I've been cutting the crappy default wire out and inserting a stronger one in, which makes the seal really really good.

    • +1

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with the nose wire, there are definitely new products in production that offer an alternative seal that may work better for you but it'll be a double headstrap design. We'll have more info shortly.

    I’m buying from China. Cheaper.

Please don't downvote guys, everyone has their own needs. AMD P2 Respirators are great masks and while they're the only ones I'd supply the loved ones in my life, it might not be suitable for everyone. I'd encourage you to do your own research and find out why they're better and make an informed decision.

  • Quite a fan of the KF94 style/shape mask for the fit and breathability. Use it for work and comfortable for 8 hours+
Nanotech used also quite durable and can be worn longer.

Here's a Study compered to the traditional meltblown.

  • In terms of disinfection, would leave it aside for 3 days then reuse serve the same purpose?
I see the website mentions "never reuse single-use respirators.". Is this a single-use respirators?

    • It's a disposable mask, yes. However, the P2 filter is good for a long time, so you don't have to throw it away after a single use.

I rotate between a set of several masks — like you mentioned, make sure to let the mask air out for 2-3 days after each use.

Great, thanks for sharing tbe article!

  • I had no idea these cost so much! Really makes you appreciate how well supplied our public healthcare services are. We have to change these out for every patient interaction (suspected of COVID) that we have in the hospital! Sometimes needing up to 20 masks in a day.

    • +2

"how well supplied", have you ever seen what kind of PPE used in China for their healthcate workers? It's totally disgraceful how our government treats our healthcare workers here!!!

      • +1

read an article on wuhan in early 2020 - out of over 10k HCWs sent to wuhan from rest of china during early stages of the pandemic not one caught covid. now that could be filtered news but looking at photos of their PPE can't say that's far fetched.
and to think that it took 12 months for us to recommend P2>surgical masks in healthcare settings it's an absolute disgrace

        • Person: shows signs of infection

CCP: * two gunshots in distance *
wow, I can’t believe that guy shot himself in the back of the head… twice! Yeah so anyway our infection rate still 0. :)

    • +2

Man early in the pandemic I was trying to find n95 masks and could find literally nothing, except 3m brand masks for $10-15 each! These prices $2 a mask feels like a bargain.

  • -1

I'll wait for the Intel version thanks

    1. Are these fluid resistant 160mmhg (level 3)
    2. What is the passing rate for fit testing? Have you got any documentation to support this?
      • Thanks got the fluid but nothing about fit testing

        • Most masks that have straps over the ears will fail fit tests regardless of quality.

        • +1

Be mindful that even with a high fit testing pass rate, YMMV. I've done fit testing twice at work, and failed a lot of commonly available N95/P2 masks. My colleague has also fit tested twice, and failed some of the masks they had passed the first time, even with strap adjustment, nose bridge moulding etc.

For instance, whilst I passed the 3M Aura 1870 the Trident P2 Level 3 just scraped through; very similar in shape and style, but dropped points when I was talking.

TLDR; it depends on your face shape at the time, a high pass rate for everyone doesn't always mean it's good for you

          • +2

@marlee: ^This. We do have fit test results and on the day that we were invited out to be fit tested at an independent lab out of 20 people, no one failed. That being said fit tests are designed to measure the result of a mask's performance on individuals, hence why we don't advertise how high the pass rate is.

Doctors in the hospital system are fit tested and supplied with one type of mask from a range of masks to find the best one for their particular face shape and are only allowed to wear that while at work.

  • +6

Aussiepharmadirect have just dropped their prices even lower than this. Use code OZSEP and total should be $101.50 delivered. (Unsure if this should be a deal on its own)

  • Who's the CEO of Advanced Medical Devices (AMD) Pty Ltd?

    • +4

Definitely not me. Otherwise I wouldn't be working on the weekend…

  • No point wearing P2 masks unless you have been fit tested in them, otherwise they may just be glorified surgical masks.

    • +1

Our ID department states that fit checking is more important than fit testing at times. No point having a well-fitting mask if you’re not actually wearing it properly when you need it. And you can fit check any mask just be sharp inhales and exhales and seeing if the mask creates vacuum/lifts off the face.

      • This is also very true.

      • Fit testing is definitely more important than fit checking. You will be educated how to Don and doff your mask when getting tested. It can be ignorant and dangerous to assume a fit check is significant.

        • +1

You literally cannot don correctly if you don’t fit check. Obviously fit testing is important because there’s like 50 variations of N95 masks now. But most of them require crimping the nose piece manually with your fingers and that needs to be done properly every single time. Impossible know you’ve done it right without the check.

All I’m saying is that if you don’t have the facilities to chew through $100 of individual masks (let alone the box price) just to find the right one, fit checking is super helpful (and significant).

    • +1

It's not feasible for the entire population of Australia to be fit tested at any reasonable pace but wouldn't you rather know that you've got somewhere in the region of 99.66% protection rather than less than 60%?

      • That protection percentage you are throwing around is irrelevant. If a mask doesn't fit properly then it's not protecting you, it could just be a glorified surgical mask.

  • its a great mask but quite useless if it aint fitted correctly

  • I wasn't going to, then thought I gotta wear them working and no matter what anyone says or how things open up, masks are going to be with us for a while.

    Very interested to receive them.

    • +1

Thanks for your support! You're right, while Australia hasn't really been a mask culture prior to the pandemic I think the habits we've picked up during will definitely have an impact moving forward. I mean I remember being at a birthday party post last lockdown and when the birthday girl had to blow out the candles on the cake there were definitely a few people in the room that were a bit hesitant about eating it afterwards. I still ate it. Why waste cake?

      • +1

Pls tell me it was a Freddo frog icecream cake

        • +1

Would have been smarter to have candles on a single portion of the cake.

Conversely, having a small sized cake for the birthday person adorned with candles and the large one for the guests.

        • +1

          Unfortunately it wasn't :(

  • I've been looking for P2 masks for a reasonable price since the pandemic started (actually just for the workshop). These are cheaper than any made in China brands Bunnings sell and happy to support Australian manufacturing. I am still wondering how on earth Australia are not manufacturing more now with the huge price increases, lack of supply and instability with trading with China.

    • Thanks for your support!

  • +1

Excellent service, I just received the masks this afternoon.

    • +4

Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to get orders out as quickly as possible and since there isn't much to do on a weekend during lockdown we decided to all come into work and start sending out orders. We generally don't work on weekends but we really do appreciate the OzBargain community here and it's comments like these that make it all worth it :)

  • Hi OP I ordered these last month they are the best disposable masks and I've been thru a few in the last 18months. Really easy to breathe and talk too without repeating yourself. Couple things

    1. Pacakging - Echo what said already, package size and sustainable wrapping there's a lot of air in the box and wasted plastics.

    2. What about colours? Saw Lewis wearing a black one last night at Monza and a lady at The local supermarket was sportinga red one.

    Cheers and love these masks

    • +1

Hey there! I'm really glad to hear that you're liking them.

We'd love for AMD to change up the packaging and the teenage emo in me has been begging for black ones. Word on the street is that they're coming so stay tuned :)

  • +2

    Ordered on Sunday 12/09/2021
    Arrived at work today !
I work in a medical centre with a motley collection of P2 mask supplies. The most recent ones are so tight and rough, they're leaving lacerations/grazes on my face.

This threat matrix suggests P2 masks are worth it.
    https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Documents/…

I'm wearing an AMD one now.
Very light and soft. The material is moving in and out with inspiration and expiration suggesting reasonable fit / reduced leak.
Won't damage my ripe peach skin :-)

Practice nurse is thinking of ordering more for herself and the practice. But these ones are mine !
That they are local made in Baulkham Hills, NSW is a cherry on top !

    • +3

      Glad you're liking the masks!

Yeah our team was working over the weekend and after a few too many coffees we roped in a courier company that are just as caffeinated for some Sydney deliveries. Most of the weekend orders have been fulfilled already or will be by tonight.

If your colleagues are interested in a bulk buy make sure they put in a wholesale request through here: https://www.australianp2mask.com.au/wholesale-registration/

  • I ordered some of these yesterday and they were delivered today. Amazing given how slow most things are. Thanks.

  • -5

Not a deal for me, much cheaper to get a medical exemption from a bulk billed doctor.

    • +2

depends on how much you value your life and of those around you i guess.

      • -4

I'm not wrong though, am I. A true OzBargainer would get a freebie medical certificate from a bulk bill doctor.

        • +1

          good luck with that

  • The absurdity of the entire situation is that the Australian TGA still doesn't appear to have tested all the masks that were let in on a waiver let alone tested and approved nor recommended current masks from what I can see. The discussion on sealing in this thread is interesting although it does seem a large proportion have given no regard or no accessible information and are going through the motions of re-wearing the same filthy non-fitting mask for weeks at a time.

Taiwan has obviously had the best response to both Covid and then turned around it's Delta outbreak in 9 days. Part of the success of Taiwan is that they started from almost nothing in mask production and now manufacture 50 million masks PER DAY ranging from the usual crap to the best multilayer-best sealing masks in the world. 50 Million MASKS PER DAY is pretty good for a nation with similar population to Australia. Apart from sending out packets of masks and food and mobile phones and paying suspect carriers to stay in quarantine Taiwan has always had an organised online stock system so that everyone knows where to buy additional masks despite also being extremely Free Market Capitalist in many aspects of society. The mask debate has been raging all this time in english-speaking nations and the situation appears in Sydney at the moment that it seems impossible to buy any mask no matter how inadequate because the previous retailer strip shops etc are closed by the lock-down!

If anyone can point me to a place where the TGA or any Health Department has scientifically tested and then recommended particular masks that would be great for the ozbargain community and Australia as a whole in making some scientific and organisational and management progress in reasonable expectation of future mutations 'which may or may not be just a flu'.

  • OP I just received my order - it was just the AMD box with no surrounding packaging. Completely unsealed and one mask missing. Very strange delivery - there's not even an address label.

    • Are they supposed to be plastic sealed around the entire box?

      • Mine was unsealed. Very disappointing.

      • no, they usually come in unsealed cardboard box but have individual plastic wrapping

      • My box was also unsealed, masks individually sealed though.

    • Hi there,

What was your order number? I can look into that for you.

  • +1

Received the masks today and I have to say I'm very disappointed in it. After much research decided to take a chance and it didn't live up to the hype.

Fit is very poor. Everytime I exhale I can feel air coming out from the top into my eyes. I also wear glasses and it fogs up. I feel like the nosepad stripe is flimsy and too 'stiff' for it to create a good mould. It's also quite short. When I exhale it makes an annoying rustling noise (think of a paper bag). I compared it with a surgical mask (henry schein) and no air to the top or fogging of glasses. I don't feel safe wearing these.
However it could be just my face shape (I tried 2 masks).

  • +1

Received mine yesterday, not what I was expecting. They feel a bit flimsy, nose piece has to be moulded while away from the face to get a decent seal (that's not the end of the world though) but the rustling/crinkling sound when breathing was offputting.

Wish I could have ordered less to try them out. Won't be using them, will go back to the usual N95 masks I've been buying from Chemist Warehouse.

Bear in mind that I'm sure these are quality, they just don't suit me.

If anyone wants 99 of these we can negotiate a price and I'll drop them off for free within 15km of Melbourne CBD.

    • Exact same issues with me. What do you mean mould away from the face?

How do the chemist warehouse ones fit? I remember doing research on them that they aren't actually N95, according to a occupational hygienist (Kate Cole).

      https://twitter.com/kate_cole_/status/1310144764818284544?s=…

I'm trying to return my 98 lol.

      • +1

I mean I have to take it off, mold the wire with my fingers while it's not on my face, then do the final molding when it's back on my face, otherwise I can't get a close fit.

The ones I've bought from CH fit fairly well. Still some issues with the nose molding but they feel more sturdy, no "crinkle" noise when breathing etc. They may or may not be as good but they feel more solid to me. They are labelled KN95 though, not N95, that was my mistake being lazy and "abbreviating". But as written below, it's not really relevant for those of us in a non-medical setting.

I don't require a mask to be N95 though, I bought them for the structure and solidity. They will definitely filter better than the surgical masks but it's important to remember that the mask mandate is to protect others from us, not the other way around. If the mask happens to catch something on the way in, all the better but in this pandemic it's main purpose is to catch them on the way out.
