  • Good deal but No HDMI port :(

    • +5

just buy a DP to HDMI cable or adaptor

    • +1

I believe you could use a Display port to HDMI cable, if you need a to support a HDMI monitor or TV.

    • Few if any of these will have an HDMI port, especially these slightly older ones. DisplayPort can basically be anything (HDMI, DVI, VGA) with a cheap adaptor.

  • Good deal, might get one as a KVM hypervisor. Beware to Windows users, it's not officially compatible with Windows 11.

    • To clarify, you should still be able to install it the "hard way" via an official Windows 11 ISO file

one potentially gigantic catch it didn’t mention during our briefing: systems that are upgraded this way may not be entitled to get Windows Updates, even security ones

been thinking to start making a plex server recently. Will this one works?

    • +1

I have this as a Plex server and it works well.

      • +2

I have the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 micro as a plex server - it's great. next to silent - 10W draw on idle with internal spinning HDD and connected spinning 2.5 HDD

        • My 800 G1 has a buzzy cpu cooling fan unfortunately - is yours the original type?

      • Are you storing all your media on the internal drive? If external, what are you using?

        • If external, what are you using?

          Why would it matter?

          • @PainToad: I think he mean using nas or just internal storage.

        • I’m using an old Synology NAS for storage. It’s not good enough to run Plex, hence why I use one of these for that.

        • Keep everything on an external 4TB WD Passport USB 3. Int HDD is OS only

    • I started with an Optiplex with a i7 3770 as Plex server and it was great. Main thing you want to consider is whether you need good transcoding performance. Something with Intel Quicksync (later Intel CPUs) is worth considering.

      • hey a question on the side, how do you got about expanding the storage?

        • +1

Easiest would be simply plugging in a USB hard drive, but these do have a 2.5-inch bay so you could add a laptop drive internally.

An SFF unit is a bit more flexible whilst still being compact since they can accomodate at least one 3.5-inch hard drive.

  • I have ordered from these guys before. Worked out OK (except the CPU was not the one in the listing, but a lower specced one 4 cores instead of 6 and I think 2.4ghz instead of 3.0ghz).

They seem to be supporting disabled/disadvantaged workers, so that is a plus too.

      That's a pretty big "except".

The price was still amazing with the worse CPU. Couldn't complain too much.

  • How do you tell its a i5-4590T?

  • Not working code "PXTRA5" for me with afterpay.

  • Can this play Dota 2 okay? been playing with friends because of lockdowns. Currently playing on a very old Windows laptop and its taking too long to boot such a basic game lol. Hoping a cheap windows desktop/laptop SSD will be a good replacement.

Already have Mac M1 for productivity and can't justify buying another proper windows laptop to just play 10 years old game for 2-3 months. ~$100 seems reasonable though.

    • uh why don't you just play it on your mac?

      • its Mac air - so no fan. Tried it and it runs way too hot for me.

    • Oh so it's you who I'm waiting for to load up.

Purchased the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF Desktop PC i5-4590 on Sunday. Paid $149. Expected delivery is September 23rd. As mentioned they are a support/charity type organisation so money goes to something positive.

Mines for a Retro Game set up.

    • From where you download retro games?

      • From where I can't tell you. But if you buy something like an Anbernic 351P it comes pre-installed with 3000 games.

        • But if you buy something like an Anbernic 351P it comes pre-installed with 3000 games.

Don't use the roms that come with Anbernic devices - they are a mess, get a good rom set.

In fact don't use the SD Card the comes with Anbernic devices at all - they are prone to fail.

Love my 351V. Returned my P because of controller drift.

          • @PainToad: I did replace the card, even before turning on the for the first time.
The ROMs are a bit of a mess but they work. I had all 3000 running on a Pi 4.

I was really surprised at the new version of Batocera video has the guy telling you where to download rom sets. Usually they don't touch that stuff at all.

        The internet.

        r/roms…

    • It arrived yesterday (15th September) way earlier than listed postage date.

      • Also forgot to add that it may be a refurbished PC, the case has some very minor scratches. But inside was spotless. The WD 500gb hard drive was definitely brand spanking new.

  • I have 2 similar. One running Plex and the other running OctoPrint for my Ender 3 Pro.
    Great little machines

  • Could you replace the wifi card with a little ssd?

  • Is there a Barebone version of this? Got cpu, ram and hdd already

  • this might be a stupid question but where do you get the power cable from?

    • +1

I believe it includes power brick and power cord in the package.

  • missed it! I was searching for one this morning.

  • Have had one of these units running non-stop for about 3 years now as a Linux/KVM/Docker host.
Has never skipped a beat. Appear to be really reliable, at least for me.

  • Bought from this guy before for $300 with delivery.

I7 - and 16gb. (https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1036123540529700/). IMHO: sweet deal for home sever or homelab.
