I thought they were doing new codes everyday for September

ETA, I see this is a site wide sale, damn I should've waited for this!

    • -1

Don't feel bad. iHerb have jacked their Australian prices by 30%.
      Change you location and see.

      • +1

Yeah 3 of the things I actually want went out of stock, not sure if it's legit or they just marked certain things out of stock because they would lose too much money or something. We'll just have wait and see when the sale is over.

  • +2

    Yay melatonin
    Less is more!
I tried 3, 5, 10mg.. after digging around 0.3mg works best for me

    • Is this the pharmaceutical one or the herbal alt one I see a lot of them flogging as melatonin?

    • +4

Absolutely - 0.3mg of melatonin is a sensible dose for most people (even the 3mg is far more than the body naturally produces, and can cause drowsiness).

I don't want to give unsolicited advice (especially about health), but after looking into sleep health a bit further (after listening to a few episodes of the Huberman Lab podcast on sleep), I've since switched from 0.5mg of melatonin to Magnesium Threonate and L-Theanine. I'm finding this combo has been great for (a) getting to sleep (b) staying asleep (c) getting good sleep and lastly, in contrast to melatonin, (d) waking up feeling refreshed.

I'll still use melatonin for jet lag (when we can travel again, I guess), but I feel far better on this new stack.

      • Any recommendations for a product that has both Magnesium Threonate and L-Theanine?

        • +1

I have looked, but unfortunately no blends that I could find.

I noticed a few sellers on Amazon selling 'packs' of the the magnesium threonate and l-theanine (usually also with with apigenin, a third supplement that Huberman recommends for men who have trouble getting to sleep, which is not me). Still, it's cheaper to buy the supps separately on iHerb.

Personally, I also prefer buying some of my supps in lower strengths so I can tweak the amounts, and find what works best for me. That's easier to do when you have separate supps.

          • @bangiebargie: Any suggestions on how to get started with this? I looked and the choices and possible combinations are overwhelming!

            • @kranix: Sorry I tried replying earlier, but iHerb automatically included a referral code in the links I posted, so my comment was deleted!

In short, I'd start with the lower end of the following recommended dosages and adjust up as needed:

              • 300 to 400 milligrams of magnesium threonate
I use this one from Source Naturals
Keep in mind that we want 'active' magnesium, so this one has 144mg in each tablet - I take x2 for 288mg total, which is just under the lower end of the recommended dose. I'm not too worried about that, as I already get magnesium in my daily multi, albeit in a different form.

              • 200 to 400 milligrams of theanine
I use this one from Natural Factors

Those doses are based on Huberman's latest recommendations as of September 2021 - not that they change much, but I think he's 'narrowed' the ranges based on feedback, whereas each range was previously a bit broader

    • Do they sell the 0.3mg on Iherb? A quick search shows only 3mg.

      • These are the ones I use (although I sometimes use 3mg, as well)

Life Extension, Melatonin, 6 Hour Timed Release, 300 mcg
        https://au.iherb.com/pr/life-extension-melatonin-6-hour-time…

        • Is Life Extension the best brand?

          • @sintro: With melatonin, I wouldn't worry too much about finding the 'best' brand. It's a safe substance and - at least within reputable brands - purity is usually not a big issue.

What does matter, however, is accuracy - some products contain five times the melatonin that the label suggests - there are a few papers on this, but the one that comes to mind is: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5263069/

I haven't seen any third-party tests of the 300mcg Life Extension product, but their 3mg product tested 'okay' on Labdoor, with fairly good accuracy: https://labdoor.com/rankings/melatonin

In conclusion, if I was looking for a low-strength melatonin product, and Life Extension was well-priced, I would certainly consider it a good option.

          • @sintro: I find it good, but I find other brands good as well. I really like Now Foods OptiZinc which I can feel working unlike Source Naturals. I also have Now Foods melatonin

  • Anyone placed an order lately, how long before you received it?

    • +3

Varies between 7-21 days here in Syd in my experience using the free aus post shipping.

    • +1

I've had orders from iherb coming in quicker to Mel via AusPost than any orders from Australian stores. About a week to Mel.

(am aware of several pauses to AP, but they seem to still prioritise orders from OS)

      • +1

Also about 7 days for me

    • Still waiting for 14 days but has been in melb depot for over a week of it

  • +4

Half the things i usually get are out of stock :(

  • +1

I think maybe they’ve priced jacked.

I buy the Thorne Research Choline and it’s listed today as $43.57
Last price I paid without a coupon was $30.80 so with the 25% off it’s not as cheap.
how can you check previous listed prices like camel camel camel for everything?

    • Prices fluctuate heavily based on currency exchange rates. If you've ordered something before, just bring up the previous orders in your account to cross check against current prices.

There's always the 'covid tax' which could add a bit of inflation.

    • Thorne is usually excluded from codes, at least the products I've tried.

      • +1

Thorne always excluded - unfortunate, as it's my preferred brand!

    • I've just checked against my previous orders - some are now more expensive (mostly Thorne), others slightly cheaper (NOW brand).
I think the price difference might be a combination of supply, currency, and other factors - rather than a uniform 'price jacking'.

    • +1

I've never personally known them to pricejack and I've been buying from iHerb for years and years. Usually the only fluctuation I see is due to the currency exchange rate

  • Any recommendations for probiotics? My gp recommend bioceuticals but it didn't help my bloating and ibs symptoms.

    • +3

For Ibs It’s more diet I find.
No gluten, no wheat, no dairy, no sugar

None of the good stuff unfortunately

      • Cheers

    • +1

If nothing else has worked, you could try this https://au.iherb.com/pr/innovixlabs-multi-strain-probiotic-5… - it contains bacteriophages (i.e. viruses that selectively kill specific strains of bacteria). Unfortunately out of stock right now though but there are other bacteriophage products in stock that are more expensive and/or less servings.

But as chakel said, diet is probably the most important thing.

      • Thanks

    • +1

See if you can cut out onions ,
and add fibre to your diet (eg. Weetbix)

      • I see. Thanks

  • my 2c given how bad Oz post is right now, maybe pony up for the DHL shipping.

    • +1

it seems really hit and miss with Auspost for me (im in Melbourne)
eg; i ordered something from Perth last week, and took about 3 days (normal postage) but then i ordered something from Melbourne, and took over a week. Also seems like my orders from China are coming quicker than pre-covid times (2 recent Ali orders received in about a month with normal shipping)

      • Same. I’m in Sydney and I’ve received an order in two days, while another is taking 2-3 weeks. Both regular sized parcels sent from Sydney via regular post from the same retailer.

    • The last few times I chose DHL, Australia Post ended up being the ones to deliver it, and it wasn't any quicker. YMMV, of course, but just sharing my experience.

  • +1

If your dosage of Melatonin is out of stock, then order double the strength and use a tablet cutter e.g. https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/83957/health-wellnes… to cut in half. For example if you use the 5mg dose, then buy the 10mg dose and cut in half. :)

    • +4

Don't need a pill cutter just use a credit card and a mirror to chop.

      • +5

        Is that you Nadia?

      • Hahahaha, that just sounds dodgy! ;)

    • +2

From memory they dont ensure an even mix in forming of the pill for these so it would likely vary a bit (avid user of many years).

    • +2

5mg is way too much for most people. Studies show that 1mg or even 0.5mg is sufficient.

A tablet cutter will stop sustained/delayed-release tablets from doing their job. Your body will get the full hit at once.

      • +1

Bonus of >3mg is you get crazy dreams.

But really nightmares, but crazy none the less

  • +1

hmm will cashrewards do a bump up rate to double stack

    • Waiting for this too.

    • Same, waiting. Will definitely be making a purchase if the rewards double.

  • There's an order limit of about $164 if you want free delivery via Auspost. Split your orders. The site says that the code can only be used once, but I got it to work twice. It didn't work the third time, but I suppose I could open another account if I wanted it that badly. iHerb regularly have 20% sales, so I'm not too bothered. Also, combine with Cashrewards for greater savings.

    • I have two accounts specifically for that very reason - split the orders up to get free shipping on both. Like you, I tried the code on my second order (using my main account) and it accepted it, but I know that iHerb payments sit in pending for awhile until they process it. So I decided to use my second account on the off chance they ping the second order for using the code twice.

Funnily enough, my first order tracked and is pending in CR but my second order isn't. Hopefully it's just a delay with CR and nothing I have to contact them about.

      • I had the same problem with CR. I was going to wait a bit before contacting them.

  • I started an order two days ago and thank goodness I waited! Great place to get Atkins products that we don’t have in Oz, they even have low carb M&Ms.

  • I was getting scripts of melatonin and it was working great but expensive. Decided to get from iherb but noticed it’s not effective anymore. So dissapointed.

  • thanks just bought some mastic gum

    • For ulcers or something else?
      Does it work?

  • +1

The promotion codes never cover certain brands, eg. Solgar

  • Thank you OP!

  • I was waiting for the pst to be 1 oct to buy some choczero. Sold out..
