Features

Ad blocking

AdGuard ad filter blocks all kinds of ads. Pop-ups, video ads, banners and such — they will all go away. Due to unnoticeable background filtering and cosmetic processing, all you will see is clean pages with the content you came for.

Safe web surfing

Protection from phishing and hazardous websites and malvertising (malicious ads). AdGuard checks every page against our database for any malicious content and blocks requests from potentially dangerous ones.

Privacy protection

AdGuard fights against all trackers and analytical systems that spy on you. The program blocks third-party cookies, can hide your IP address, and provides an abundance of other features to protect your personal data.

Parental control

AdGuard protects your children online. It blocks access to inappropriate websites, removes obscene materials from search results, and provides parents with a customizable blocklist to tailor the safest web experience for their kids.

Protect your data

Everything on the web nowadays tries to steal your data. AdGuard has a dedicated module to prevent that from happening.

Disguise yourself online

Instead of simply hiding your online profile, you can change it to appear as someone else and browse anonymously.

Excellent value for probably the best currently available multiplatform solution in its category.
A must have on Android devices - enabling highly customisable system wide filtering including easily configurable and flexible encrypted DNS options.
Updates and improvements are constantly being pushed out via stable, beta and even nightly release channels.
Not to mention the fantastic free and open source AdGuardHome - also available for most platforms and architectures.
It's an essential part of my home network setup happily living inside my OpenWRT flashed router enabling detailed monitoring and granular control over all my network enabled devices.
I'd jump on this deal if I didn't already own a perpetual family license….

    • Still see ads on ozbargain via chrome with premium AdGuard , why would scotty do this to us, he is already making lots of money with affiliates, please give us a clean ozbargain

Be aware google is about to kill/neuter all the ad-blockers, which is no surprise as they are an advertising / surveillance company. Details:
    https://www.techspot.com/news/91474-google-could-dismantling…

So if you use Chrome keep this in mind. You may want to switch to Firefox and as OP mentioned use uBlock

    • +1

Adguard for Chrome browser is free. I believe this family plan licence can be use with Adguard for Windows/Android/iOS which cannot be block by Google.

    • +3

Won't do them much good with Adguard (app) or AdGuardHome as they don't rely on browser extensions to filter out content.
In any case the Android version of AG isn't available from Google Play precisely due to its superior effectiveness at system level filtering.
To install it you must sideload the .apk and once done the app can auto update itself.
The Windows version runs regardless of browser too and therefore allows far deeper filtration capabilities such as per running app customisation etc…

    • +2

      just use pi-hole instead

      • +3

This is essentially what the app is. Runs a small VPN/process on your device which filters all traffic through it. They then run through DNS filters just like PiHole but it happens on your device.

Disadvantage to PiHole is PiHole is free and network wide and can apply to devices where you can’t install apps. The advantage is for most people it’s far easier to set up, especially for access when not on your home network. Unless you have a Pi already, this is likely cheaper too once hardware and the small running costs are considered.

No reason you can’t run both something like this and PiHole or Adguard Home (which is their PiHole competitor) at the same time. Get the benefits of both. It’s just a bit inconvenient when you need to do whitelisting to do it in multiple places.

        • +1

So with Adguard - I have to install the software on each device on my network?

Isn't it easier with Pi-hole ? DNS filter on the whole network, no need to install the software.

          • +2

@vash12: For the app you’d need to install it on the device, and obviously not all devices will support the app.

What’s best partially depends on what you want to achieve with devices that go off the network I’d say and your willingness to open your network. PiHoles not difficult but installing this is likely still easier. I say it partially depends, because you can just use both.

            Personally I use the following
            - 1Blocker as my browser blocker on Mac and iPhone
            - Little Snitch with some add rule filters on my Mac which basically is doing what “Adguard” does
            - “Adguard Home” on my home network which is basically the same as PiHole. I’m using it because that’s what Home Assistant supports out of the box for addons. All local network traffic goes through this.
            - Mobile devices I’ve been using NextDNS.io when on cellular which is a great DNS service that lets you enable filter rules and you can have your device toggle into that when you leave certain networks, namely your home one. Just this week however I’ve been playing with moving off that onto a cloud hosted Adguard Home instance running on a free Oracle Cloud plan and accessed via a VPN when I’m off my home network. (Also set up a second server with PiHole for comparisons sake). Haven’t fully cut over to that yet as I’m still configuring it and setting up the VPNs etc meant some additional complexity I didn’t have with my home instance. I could just open up a VPN to my home network, but would prefer not to.

So yeah, I don’t actually use “Adguard” on my Mac or phone although I have an existing lifetime license and it worked fine the times I tried it. That said, I do layer multiple filtering tools. In all honesty my DNS level blockers don’t see huge amounts of traffic as the web browser blockers probably capture a good 80% of the things I want to block. When I disable my browser extension the DNS blockers have to work a lot more and you really do get to see how much crap can be discarded or blocked.

    • +1

Switch to the new chromium Edge instead. So much faster and less resource intensive than Chrome.

    • Greetings once again useLES,

      Re:

'You may want to switch to Firefox and as OP mentioned use uBlock …'

I suggest that peeps may wish to try out the free and open source web browser called 'Brave'. Using that browser, YouTube (etc.) can be enjoyed ad-free, as can just about any other website. Because it's open-source, it can be reasonably expected to only get better and better …

Have you tried it, Mr Less?

  • I tried to pay with PayPal and got hit with an error saying not in country. I presume that's because this is a US only deal?

Should I just go via the credit card manual way of paying and select a specific country to get this to go through?

Cheers for any advice that can be offered.

    • I got the same error. Then I used Google Pay, worked.

      • Do you need an account and to be logged in with SS for Google Pay to be an option?

I can't see how to select that payment method. It only gives me PayPal or credit card……I must be missing something.

    • I could not work out how to pay with Google Pay.

PayPal works for me when I change my delivery address to my relative's USA address, so any USA address should work.

Make sure you pay with a card that does not charge foreign exchange fees like 28 Degrees and select USD as currency to get the better exchange rate.

I already had a mobile lifetime licence. I was able to add the Family licence to the same Adguard account without any issues.

      • Thanks.

Anyone got the best way to get a US address these days from the plethora of options available from a quick Google search?

        Or are they all similar?

        Thanks

  • I noticed that StackSocial has $10 referral. Clicking on the referral link take me to the general stacksocial homepage instead of the new user registration form.

How do you stack this deal with the referral?

  • What’s difference between this and the free extension for chrome / safari?

    • Browser extensions can block ads in a browser. Believe this is the same as the old Adguard Pro which runs at a system level and can block ads or traffic (such as request that monitor your usage of things) from all apps.

Generally I’d run both an AdBlocker and a browser extension. The system level ones are usually less granular about how they can block things as they use the top level domain name, say “block everything from http://ads.Google.com/. It’s a pretty blunt tool but often effective. They don’t work as well for some other content in web browsers sessions however where you need to know more than the address of what’s being requested such as dealing with content you might want to block that’s at the same domain as legit stuff. Browser extensions can analyse the page layout and make more precise decisions in what to block.

Running both isn’t a terrible idea.

      • Don't you need root to run it at system level for system wide ad blocking?

Running Samsung Internet Browser with Crystal ad block here for free haven't seen an ad in years.

        • Not on the iOS app and I assume not on Android, as it sets up a VPN on the device which causes traffic to go through that and they apply the DNS filtering that way.

This should be able to block ads in day freemium games too and other apps. How well that works can differ but. Sometimes it’s perfect, some games that show advertisement videos might still have a black screen for 30 seconds where the ad should have been.

  • 20$ store credit is for adgaurd store or stacksocial ?

    • Stacksocial + $10 referral credit if you spend more than $50 on your first purchase.

      • I mean the + 20$ store credit is for usage in adgaurd store or stacksocial store ?

        • +1

          Stacksocial.

First time user (using on Android) - wow what a difference it makes, not only in clutter (sites feel very clean now) but also speed (websites load and render noticeably faster). Thanks for the post!

    • I got this today and feels like my phone is brand new. Browsing sites and scrolling through content is much more crisp and smooth.

  • Thanks OP purchased great deal

  • +1

Paying to block ads. What a world!

    • I assume you work for free, that’s why you think programmers should too?

      • Plenty of options that don't require payment.

        • Some people are volunteers, some need to make a living.

      • Talk about putting words in OP's mouth.

Many programmers do freely contribute to all kinds of open source projects — including ad-blockers. I don't see anything wrong with using these over paid alternatives.

        • Nothing at all wrong with using free open source projects. Also nothing at all wrong with some projects being commercial.

  • +2

I use Pihole for my home network
And I use Energy Protection magisk module on my phone to prevent ads and more.

Adguard is good for people who won't fiddle with code.

    • thanks, will check this out.

  • I just tried, but got "Out of country" error using PayPal… Checked my bank and they still took the money…
Edit: Seems like it's a PayPal thing, not a StackSocial thing.

    • And you received the relevant detail from Stacksocial for the application itself??

      • Not yet, I'm waiting for a reply from Stacksocial support right now to see if my order actually went through.

  • How does this compare with something like AdBlock which runs DNS proxy/VPN profile and browser extensions all for free?

  • I suffered from the issue about Out of country when trying to pay by Paypal. I created a Stacksocial account using my Gmail account and then having gone back to the checkout process I was then presented with an option for Google Pay.

Paid and it went through as planned and I have a confirmation email from SS for the order.

    Cheers OP.

What can the store credit used for? What other apps you have?

    • Same question

      • AdGuard VPN is pretty good and you can use it together with AdGuard on Android which usually wont allow two apps that use VPN to function at the same time. It's a good feature. 5 year sub is a decent deal.

        • Haha thanks for the reply. I did buy this deal and honestly Adguard is a good software.

  • Seems like a good deal

  • How is this different to open source stuff like Blockada?

  • I get an error STATE MUST BE FILLED and no where to change it

  • +1

Or just use Blokada, which does the same thing, is open source and free.

  • +1

Given this creates a local VPN on your device, when firing up NordVPN on my phone, it pauses Adguard.

Any way to be able to have both operational or is this a downside to having local adblocking running?

edit: found this which looks like the workaround

  • Windscribe has an ad blocker, which I found to interfere with both Cashrewards and Shopback when turned on. Does anyone have experience using this product and the ability to track cashback rewards? Thanks.

    • Always turn off all adblock when using cashback transactions.

  • thanks, purchased,
installed no issue on the kids tablets.
gets rid of the google search ads no problems

  • Does the store credit expire?

  • Does anyone know how good is the parental control for this? Or can anyone recommend a good one? Thanks l

  • Used Google Pay - no issues, USD 19.8 / AUD 27.62. Was using Adguard browser extension for many years, time to pay and support the developers.

  • +1

I use Youtube Premium, and Blokada on my Android mobile which blocks third party ads. I am wondering how can this Adguard help. Can anybody please tell me the additional benefits?

    • +1

      There isn't any.

  • Is it selling stolen Keys or something ? I cant think Adguard would be selling for so cheap?

The cheapest on their Website itself is only 3999.99 INR which is like ~ 72 AUD
