Before proceeding ensure your Game Pass subscription is fully expired, auto-recurring payments disabled, and Microsoft account set to your current country of residence

A great deal for those new or with a fully expired subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and want to try Xbox Cloud Gaming which has just been released today.

If you have never used the $1 first month offer, this will cost in total $125.09 for 3 years. If you have a fully expired subscription, but have used the $1 first month offer previously, it will cost $146.70 total for 3 years.

Edit: As suggested by chorong, Gamivo has 5% off with code COOLIFE

Normally Ultimate sub would cost $15.95/mth x 36 months = $574.20, or $80/yr if purchasing cards from JB HiFi and following this same process without the need of VPN.

Please note:
  • This method is verified as working, as I've just completed it myself.
  • This only works if your current subscription has FULLY EXPIRED. New users will work fine and will get the deal $14 cheaper. If you have an existing subscription THIS WILL NOT WORK, and you will have to wait until your current sub finishes.
  • You will need a Microsoft account. Ensure auto renew/recurring payments are cancelled, and account details (especially Country) are set correctly before proceeding.
  • 36 months is the maximum that can be subscribed at once, though you can subscribe less if you wish.
  • If you wish to subscribe for 36months, and you are offered extra free months at all during this process, decline them as you can not exceed this limit and will be unable to enter your third 12 month code.
  • You will need a VPN (Comments have said that Windscribe for Chrome extension works). Although MTCGame listing says the codes are Brazil, mine were actually Turkey codes. Ensure your VPN has access to both countries, just in case.
  • Some have said MTCGame asked them to do a rigorous ID verification process to purchase their keys, there are some other options listed by f4te in comments for purchasing 12 month codes.
  • If you get RiskPolicyRejected error while redeeming codes, you need to keep trying. Try this method or this method from the comments.
Please read above and all steps below carefully before proceeding:

1. Go to MTCGame or Gamivo Edit: As suggested by chorong, Gamivo has 5% off with code COOLIFE
or CDkeys following dowey's instructions
(some other options listed by f4te in comments) and make sure country is set to Australia and currency to $AUD at the top of the page, purchase up to 3x12month Xbox Live Gold cards for $48 AUD each. Gamivo and other options prices will vary slightly.

2. You may need to verify phone number. It took roughly 45-50mins for the code to be received in my email, so don't stress too much. You will receive images of the codes all in one email. Type out all the codes into Notepad (they're in format: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX with a mixture of letters and numbers). Note that my codes were labelled "Xbox 12 Aylık Gold Üyelik (Türkiye)", and I had to use Turkey VPN to redeem.

3. Connect to your VPN (Comments have said that Windscribe for Chrome extension works), go to https://redeem.microsoft.com/?wa=wsignin1.0, login to your account (you will probably need to verify email address via security code sent to your email) and add each code. If you get an error about the wrong country, try changing to Brazil/Turkey VPN, or using an Incognito/Private window.

Edit: If you get RiskPolicyRejected error while redeeming codes, you need to keep trying. Try this method or this method from the comments.

4. Once all codes are added, go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/ and verify that you have up to the maximum of 36months. Mine said Subscription expires "September 29. 2024". It is IMPORTANT you verify all your Xbox Live Gold codes are redeemed successfully before proceeding.

5. Disconnect VPN, we will no longer need it.

6. Now that we have 36 months of Xbox Live Gold, we need to upgrade them to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. On the same page https://account.microsoft.com/services/ click on "Upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate" as seen on this picture

7. You will be taken to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate page to join. This should be the link in case you need it. First time users will see $1.00 price, expired users will see $15.95 price. Click join.

8. You will see the following dialog that you will be upgrading your membership, don't stress about current conversion ratio, etc. As long as your new renewal date matches you're good to go. Mine said "Your new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate renewal date will be: 30/09/2024"

9. Pay the $1 for new users, $15.95 for expired users via Credit Card or Paypal. Once done refresh the Services page to verify you've been successfully upgraded to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. You will also see next charge "9/30/2024, AU$15.95" or similar, pictured here.

10. Once all has been verified, you can click "Manage" on the top-right and Turn off recurring billing, in case you forget later. Its this page if you can't find it. Once your subscription lapses in 3 years, hopefully you'll still be able to repeat this process.

        Argh, yes. So once the order went through they wanted a photo of the card, name on card, with only the last four digits available, and a hand written note. So less onerous than the others. Once i provided it they verified that I actually wanted Turkish keys and then provided them. Pretty responsive for a weekend (maybe all done after an hour or so).

    I'm having issues getting it to upgrade to game pass ultimate. I've got 3 years of Gold on the system showing 1/10/2024 but when i go to upgrade it doesn't let me pay for the 1 month GPU. It just sits there and it doesn't show an end date either to GPU as previously shown by the poster. Any ideas? can I use the xbox to upgrade to Game pass ultimate?

    Thanks so much OP, everything worked out in the end!

    For the other fellas wanting to get in on this deal, I went with Eneba and the seller 'Ultimate Choice.' Paid and was given the codes instantly without the bs id checks nor phone verification that others are experiencing. Was billed $135.29.

    As for the next few steps, they were tedious but I managed to get all to work in the end with the Windscribe VPN extension. I kept getting those errors and had to spend maybe 30-40 minutes altogether to get all the codes to work, but it worked nonetheless and I'm stoked.

    Hopefully this helps anyone else with any issues :)

    Hey OP thanks for this has to be the best deal in gaming. I followed the steps and made sure my sub was expired and changed my country to AUS it was set to the UK for some reason. Now when i try to upgrade to game pass ultimate for $1 its saying "you currently have a subscription from a different region. If it still doest work, please contact customer support" I am not bothered about paying the $15.95 to upgrade but I dont have that option. Any ideas how to get this working? Do i need to change my country back? Under subcriptions and services there is a option to resubscribe to game pass ultimate but will that use the xbox live gold vounchers i have redeemed?

      I can only presume that it still thinks you're in the UK. I found this on Google, could you have a look and see if it works for you?

      I had the same problem. Go to your microsoft.com -> your account -> my subscriptions. Check the billing info for your current active subscription. It should show you which region the subscription is set to (mine was set to Argentina) , now set the region in my profile to this and change the site to the same region. You should be able to extend your subscription now. Afterwards set your region back to [Australia]

        Thanks heaps iambRad that worked and its now upgraded to GP ultimate. However once i have updraded my renewal date has now dropepd from 01/10/23 to 12/03/23. (i only purchased 2 years of xbox live gold and selected the auto renew option to get a free month so unsure why it would be less)

      Unpleasant experience with CDKEYS, 2 out of 3 code consists of invalid character '0', triggering error 'This code wasn't found–try re-entering it. If the code is damaged, contact the seller. Invalid characters are A, E, I, O, U, L, S, 0, 1 and 5'.

    At the end it came out to $122.94 for 3 years + $1 for 1 month of Ultimate. Process was mostly seamless with only 2 instances where I had the error, but it only took a single refresh to fix. Surprisingly, the $1 offer was available to me despite having already taken advantage of the $1 for 3 months of gamepass a while ago. just canceled my $15 gamepass monthly sub yesterday too lol.       Unfortunately it has to be fully expired, otherwise when redeeming the Xbox Live Gold codes it will convert to Ultimate at RRP price (ie. XBL 12 months -> 4 months Ultimate)

    buying key from Gamivo is much painful than Microsoft! firstly they asked for identify, they asked for paypal, and hold for 3 times and cancelled one, refunded one. two my 2 hours to get the key!

    Has any of you successfully upgrade your 3 years Xbox Gold live to xbox Gamepass Ultimate?

    I'm having issue with something is wrong our end error with the $1 upgrade. Tried the 1 months jbhifi $15.95 also the same.

    Talking to the support, they saying because you have 36 months already it's not possible to upgrade to 37 months xbox gamepass ultimate. Hence why it's giving error. Therefore they told me I have to wait for a month then I can do it then.

    I just want to confirm if this is what everyone experience as well? I thought if you have 36 months and upgrade it'll be 36 months still and the extra month is automatically lost.

    Fellow Ozbargainers,
    I bought 3x Xbox Gold Live passes via GAMIVO.com on Sat night, received keys within 15m. I had a run in with the site because of greed and tried to get the 10% discount twice which ended in one of the three being canceled/refunded. Re-purchased another key without the discount (immaterial difference).

    This morning redeemed all three keys successfully per the instructions and using NordVPN, no issues with redemptions experienced. Upgraded 3 years worth of Xbox Gold pass to Ultimate paying $15.95 as a previous member. My Subscriptions now states "Xbox Game Pass Ultimate", Recurring billing off, expires on 10/3/2024.

    1) Bought the codes via Gamvino, codes came in within like 15 mins.

    2) Used VPN Unlimited to connect to turkey, redeemed all 3 gold codes there, not problems.

    3) Then disconnected VPN and was somehow offered the $1 upgrade! I'd let my account lapse on Sept 30, so not even 4 days since it ended, and somehow got the $1 offer.

    Officially have Game pass til 4 Oct, 2024! Thanks again!

    just a heads up, i used Gamivo, was hoping to purchase from Priceaxe but they sold out while i was in check out. I ended up with seller Codes$all.     So I did everything, bought my key from Gamivo (wasn't required to show ID or anything weird) and followed all of the instructions to the letter. Unfortunately when I attempt to upgrade my xbox gold to Ultimate I get the following error

    "Change your Microsoft Store region"
    "You currently have a subscription from a different region. If it still doesn't work, please contact customer support."

      The easiest way to fix I've seen is to buy 1 month Ultimate Game Pass code and redeem that code the same way you redeemed the Xbox Live Gold codes.

    I just bought three vouchers from Gamivo and they showed up within minutes. I then redeemed them using Turkey VPN and it did not give me any errors whatsoever! The codes just redeemed immediately!

    Although, in my haste, I forgot to use the COOLIFE code and I also couldn't manage to get the SMART discount when adding it to purchase so I skipped it. Overall, still a massive savings!

    I can confirm this still works - I went through Gamivo and got my key within like 1 min (I used the 10% off code posted in the main post/comments). They sent me the code directly - it wasn't a photo.

    I used Nord VPN to set my location to Turkey in Chrome Incognito before claiming my key on the Microsoft website, and claimed the key no issues and converted it to Game Pass Ultimate. Cheers!!

    PSA: One thing I had to do was remove the hyphens in the code that was sent to me before I pasted it into the Microsoft website. I was pasting it in with the hyphens before and it told me my key was invalid until I removed the hyphens.

    Just did it with the CHF Turkey method through cdkeys which cost $136.92 for the 3 years. Unfortunately wasn't eligible for the $1 upgrade, but the whole thing is ridiculously cheap so I won't complain.

      I’haven’t been that lucky, 2 out of 3 code is not working, consists of invalid character “O/0” which rejected by MS.
      Sending message to them almost 24hrs ago with follow-up emails, still no response from them yet

    In Gamivo, OCTOWEEKEND2 code no longer works; but the code DLCOMPARE works for 3% off.

    Dang, mine is still active until next year.
    Does anyone here tried to cancel their current ultimate with such a long period to go and manage to extend + upgrade again?
