Fitbit Charge 4 price drop with the recent release of the Fitbit Charge 5

Great price at $99. Still $179 at most outlets.

Pity only available in 'Rosewood'

Personally, I'm waiting for the navy to go for $99; will call other retailers tomorrow to see if they will price match.

UPDATE: Tried Officeworks (West Ryde), they are happy to do the same colour for $94.05, but not any other colours. JB-HI-FI (Castle Hill Towers) were willing to give any colour for $99; gave a unique link to place a click and collect order for the 'Storm Blue'. Happy hunting :)

  • If that was the price yesterday before 10pm, that would have been a very good deal with catch, 20% cashback plus other bonus cashback

    • +1

You can still get 10% off with Student beans and 6%-8% off with gift cards.

      • Would be nice to get a code from unidays.

        • I think there is a ozbargain page where people ask for code.

  • This or xiaomi fitband 6?

    • +5

Xiaomi, more features for the price.

      • +1

        Xiaomi has nfc to pay?

        • +1

          Not the international one. No.

    • +2

For the price they are great I have the 4..but if app is important to you the fit bit app is a lot better… ( I went from fit bit alta to the xiaomi).

    • +1

Xiaomi Mi Band 6 ($33 Amazon AU) - No GPS, No NFC
Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite ($79 Catch) - Yes GPS, No NFC
Fitbit Charge 4 has both GPS and NFC and are experts in fitness trackers.
Having said that, Xiaomi do make great products and buy only to the features that you need / will use :)

      • lol, "fitbit experts in fitness trackers", lmao

fitbit is a joke. garmin would be the real experts in fitness trackers. I went from the top of the line fitbit surge, to a garmin fenix. it is night and day. i will never buy a fitbit again.

i guess it would be ok as your first "fitness tracker," but i recommend garmin if you want a real fitness tracker.

        • +5

          looks up Garmin Fenix

Yeah, nah, I think Fitbit is real enough for me. At 10x the price, it would want to be night and day.

(I think the point was Fitbit are a company who only do fitness trackers, whereas Xiaomi aren't)

          • -1

            @dregs: lol
I just don't like the claim that fitbit is the real experts in fitness trackers. fitbit honestly a more of a fashion accessory that makes you look like you are active, but probably only did 1 active thing since you purchased it, lol. Since I upgraded from my fitbit to Garmin I actually do more activities. I do triathlons, marathons, ms gong ride, etc… in all of those active events, i never seen 1 fitbit, lol.

seems like people like fitbit for there sleep tracker. i guess that would technically be an activity, just not an active activity. if you have a high heart rate and sweating in your sleep, you need more then a fitbit, you need real medical attention that a $100 fitbit won't fix.

I used the sleep tracker for a little bit, then realised i don't like wearing a something on my wrist when i sleep. it slides up and cuts off your blood flow and circulation. I also like to give my wrist a rest since i wear my watch all day. kinda of like when i don't wear socks and shoes to sleep.

a fitbit is like getting a gym membership to planet fitness (a gym where they give you pizza and donuts). makes you seem like you're active, but you aren't really active at all.

        • +1

I agree Fitbit is not an expert in fitness tracker, it wouldn't be a device you'd look for if you're an endurance runner. Garmin is but not an expert in sleep tracking, but not sure if latest improvements is superior with their Firstbeat update. You've gone through both so you can agree by that? :)

Garmin reigns on its GPS accuracy. Ultimately, it all depends on what you are looking for on a sports watch. I'm looking for one that has good GPS, for runners and has good sleep tracker since I've learnt my F245 could do better so I'm still undecided 😂

          • @PeeDee: I've got a Fenix 6S and the sleep tracking and data is better than the Charge 4. I had a charge 4 for 9 months before it stopped working. I'd never buy a Fitbit again, I wouldn't call it an expert at anything, its a good overall health tracker. If you need to be reminded to take some steps its ok, but actually giving data on exercise that is useful isn't really what it does. You can't do any advanced training with it, just run and see what your heart rate did later. Just looking at their websites too, you can see the difference, Fitbit is a fashion accessory, Garmin is for real sports. Only question for someone buying one is how close to either end of that scale do you want to be?

            • @shapeshifter: That's interesting! So they really did up their game!! Yeah thanks for the confirmation that Fitbit is still garbage if you are taking sports seriously. I would've thought so. I'm trying to explore other watches and eyeing on Polar watches which people say it's powerful for endurance runners and has advanced sleep tech surpassing other brands in accuracy. But I'm yet to find if it is with the new Garmin's integrated sleep features.

        • Fitness trackers and sports watches are very different beasts. I've owned 11 or 12 Garmins over the past 15 years, and I'm the first to admit that Fitbit is better for some things (eg. sleep tracking).

      • +1

Is there a link to mi band 6 for that price?

    • +2

If you are after rich features in the cost of the battery life, this. If you are just after essential features like me (app/sms/email/call notification/vibration, step counter, time) and want a battery life like 2wks long, xiaomi.

    • +1

If you're serious about fitness then very few products can compete with Fitbit. Have a look at scientific based reviews from The Quantified Scientist's YouTube channel:
      Fitbit Charge 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAv6dyPd9ns&t=4s
      Mi Band 6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFrxr1LYU0I&t=6s

Mi Band 6 is simply no match for the far superior Fitbit Charge 4.

I used to have Mi Band 1 and 2 (they both died). We now have a Fitbit Charge 4 ($99 from Amazon Prime day sale) and a Fitbit Versa 2.

      • The Quantified Scientist is not an impartial reviewer he's an Amazon Affiliate. If he did his reviews 100% for free out of the goodness of his heart to help others then maybe they could be taken seriously. His dog and pony routine works well on people to make purchasing decisions or make them feel better after they have spent their money on a device he reviews. I can't really blame him for trying to make a lot of money doing something he enjoys.

        • +1

Do you have any evidence to support your claim?

        • DC Rainmaker also rates Fitbit highly

      • I recently bought 2 mi band 6. Both from different sellers but both were there global variant. I must say that I had to get full refund on one of them. For some reason it would not count steps properly. I had to send evidence wearing both the bands ( one on each hand ). Considering the hassle, I've given up on mi band. I'm now not even sure if the other band shows correct steps.

        • Like I said above, independent tests performed by Quantified Scientist for both Mi Band and Fitbit clearly show that Charge 4 is a far superior device (except for the screen which is black/white). Considering that all reviews can be faked, I'd more inclined to trust a scientific based review than some unverified review on Amazon or elsewhere.

  • Am thinking of getting a Polar watch that reputable over running and sleep. Wondering how much of a difference these are to Fitbit

  • +1

Bought this earlier in the year and disappointed with it.

    1. This boasts an impressive battery life, only because the display is so dull, you need to be working deep underground to be able to see it.
    2. The text for messaging, emails etc. is ridiculously small to read.

If you work in an underground coal mine with 20/20 vision, this watch is for you….

  • Anyone have the Fitbit Versa 2? If you read the message/notification on your phone, does it also clear it on the Watch?

  • How is the quality of straps for these? I had charge 2 and the straps didn't last too long.

    • +1

Average. However, if the strap breaks, Fitbit will replace it free of charge, even outside of warranty.

  • Thanks for sharing. Was thinking to buy this for the missus. Unfortunately student beans obviously don’t work anymore and the catch offer 15$ off 60$ spend is targeted. This Fitbit very likely will go even cheaper. I will wait for Black Friday.

  • No ECG

  • Apparently there is upgraded version called Fitbit Charge 5 launced recently. I am pretty sure this product will go even cheaper on prime days.

    • Yeh charged 5 looks way better with coloured screen. I was tempted at $99 but thinking about I think this device charged 4 is just priced accordingly

      • +1

I bought the Charge 5 last week and I'm pleasantly surprised. I told myself i would never get another Fitbit after the Charge HR but it looks like the features/accuracy and battery life have improved a lot. It's been 7 days and i'm only charging it for for the first time today.

One thing I'm not a fan of is that companies are moving to premium subscriptions to unlock "special" features. You shouldn't have to pay $14 a month on top of a $250 band for all features, but luckily the extra stuff was pretty lacklustre and you get 6 months free to test it out.

If you want professional functions, go Garmin. If you want a daily logging companion, go Mi Band. This is gonna be a waste of money with crap quality.

  • +2

Fitness watches (Garmin) and activity bands serve entirely different audiences. I'm a Garmin user, but Fitbit is better for certain things such as sleep tracking.

  • Bought this yesterday at officeworks. With price match guarantee. So another 5% off on $99

  • OP mentioned that other retailers might price match. I have never tried asking retailers to price match for online store like catch. Has anyone had success with this? Thanks

    • +1

(Borat voice) Great Success!, have updated the description :)

      • Wow! That is awesome ! I am going to call JB and office works as well.

      • +1

Update- Officeworks and JB hifi both declined to price match. But Harvey Norman agreed for a price match, that too for a black one!. Thanks @rollthedice

  • I've currently got a TicWatch E3 and just use it for fitness, honestly I don't want any notifications from my phone or to control music or whatever else, it's all distraction and the WearOS software is buggy as hell. Also the TicWatch E3 is very bulky so I don't use it for sleep tracking.

Is this a better alternative for my use case?

    Shame about the colour.

    • +1

I bought this for $129 about a month ago to track my running, no real interest in notifications etc. I bought it over others for the in built gps, because I hate running with my phone. I'm quite happy with the features and usability for my purposes though have to admit, I feel like I need to do more reading to figure out how to properly get my data out of it. It's great at immediately knowing how a run went but I'd love more functionality to know how I'm progressing over time.
Also integrates well with myfitnesspal if that's of interest to you. Have a look on YouTube or their site for the kind of info it gathers for running tracking.

  • What's the best watch to track calories ( close to accurate would be great)

I do cycling, hiit workouts, gym workouts will they track all these?

  • My charge 4 screen doesn't work but still tracks everything…. Just wondering what the main reasons would be to upgrade to a charge 5 and wait for it to price drop vs picking up a charge 4 on sale / discount?

Have the features been bumped up considerably or the battery life? Have they potentially fixed the problem with the charge4 where the screen led goes considerably low and eventually not able to be viewed?

  • Got the Xiaomi cheapy for my partner and it's sh*t. Should have spent a tad more and just got this. Have an old Fitbit and it works after 3 years use.

  • My charge 3 screen died twice (first time got the warranty claim). Terrible quality

  • +1

    Prices are back to 179

  • +1

My 2 were delivered today to Sydney - pretty happy with that

  • +1

Back for 99$ on AMAZON in Rosewood…

  • Thinking of getting this for mum to log some measurements over time, (spo2 perhaps?) but more importantly for notifications in case her iPhone is in another room.
Just thinking whether Fitbit app on ios has to stay open in the background like my horrible android wear iOS abomination, or is connectivity all handled magically in the background like the Apple Watch?
