What's irritating is that The Age won't give credit to OzBargain for helping crash the website and driving up the popularity of the deal.

      • Seems a promotion piece for Scoopon in the business section.
Would the Age even know about OB?

        • yes, seems to be promoting scoopon. Whats interesting also is that the payment is not through them so they're probably not taking their usual 50% cut.

        • But collecting a lot of new members & lots of free publicity.

    • We're famous!

  • 117621 thus far…

  • lol website is buggered

I tried to "buy" some before the site crashed and got this message:

    Sorry!

You have already purchased the maximum number of Scoopons for this deal.

    Come back tomorrow!

But I didn't get any at all!

No way I'm going to pay RRP on a whopper and fries.

I'll wait 'til after 8 May or go to Maccas!

Your purchase is being processed and will be available for printing on 20 March 2012.

          Thanks Tarnsie!

          Only got 10 though :(

Mod: Re-uploaded to OzBargain's Media Uploader.

  • -nevermind, beat by Superforever

  • Lol now an article on smh about this deal: http://www.smh.com.au/small-business/trends/flamin-heck-that…

  • ozbargained! lol

  • Just not sure how the unique voucher code works. Does HJ has the voucher scanning system? Aren't they usually just take the voucher and give you the food? or they will take your voucher and scan it against the system to make sure the voucher only be used once?

    • Its expected that you just hand over the voucher and you get the offer with the payment of the $2, highly doubtful they will check the voucher in the system, and its now a large 220 000 vouchers out there and still counting, which is going to be difficult to monitor.

Looks like its an interesting marketing attempt that we have not yet seen with group buying, and it is getting both HJ and Scoopon a lot of attention, especially the media coverage and email addresses Scoopon is getting.

  • OK, technically it seems that the vouchers are only meant to be used by one person, at least technically ("Scoopon valid for 1 person"). If you want to give some as gifts, you may want to order less than ten for yourself (you can only order a total of 10, including gifts).

Now you could get your friends to order them themselves, but it is a condition of the deal that you get spammed, (
"Purchase of this Scoopon means you agree that Scoopon will send you the best National and Travel deals every day to your email address") So if you and your friends will only use a total of ten vouchers, it may not be worth getting your friends to sign up.

  • Just letting you guys know that HJ Mentone and South Frankston are not participating, so don't bother there. I think it's mainly just the company owned stores, rather than the franchises.

  • it seems to still be working as I just ordered 10 (it gives you a max of 10 now?)

  • what happened???, the counter is stuck at 150,000!

    • wow they got $300,000 in a few hours.

      • +1

not really. is every person who redemed 99 going to use all 99 of them? remember its money paid when ordering at hungry jacks, not paid now to scoopon

  • -4

Spewing, can someone who got 99 send a few? :d
    [email protected]

    • +3

umm… you sure you wanna give your email to the interwebz like that?

  • +1

Wow, making the online news and everything! I guess that has a lot to do with their max. counter though, if everyone (hyperthetically) selects 99 vouchers, thats only 1500-odd people. Good marketing gimmick though, i'm sure we may even see this deal featured on The Project tonight, lol

  • Still working, AWESOME! Thanks

  • +1

I feel sorry for the people that assemble the burgers at HJ's…

  • +12

    We are the 99 Vouchers
    #OccupyHJ

  • Great job op - bought 3. Would normally have ignored any deals with scoopon had this not been posted

  • Site is still working. Just ordered 3 more! So you have to pay at the end??

  • I can't even get beyond "you have already purchased the max no of these today"… so I haven't got any…. :(

    • Oh wait. It tells me I can't get it, but if I check my account it seems they are there (or will be on the 20th…). Hard to know really :)

  • -2

When I try and buy, i get this message… ????

    Sorry!

You have already purchased the maximum number of Scoopons for this deal.

    Come back tomorrow!

    • +1

check under "my stuff" , "my scoopons"
I got the same message but they still showed up in there.

      • thanks…

  • How will this work for scoopon? Generally that take ~50% stake in every purchase. Surely HJ won't pay out based on number of scoopons purchased…

    • Was wondering that. It's some pretty good advertising for Scoopon though, and may help them in the future.

    • +1

It's a win win for both of them Scoopon gets free advertising. HJ gets more customer flow. I don't think much money will change hands between the 2 if any at all.

      • +4

They had to do it, they've been advertising "burger deals" for 2 years without having an actual burger deal.

      • Thats right, and dont forget that Scoopon is getting more customers signing up, and more emails to send dailiy deal emails to. Amazing the counter is still rising fast, looks like a huge success.

Scoopon doesnt need to see a cent from this deal, All the money from this deal flows to HJ.

    • website traffic bud…. and free advertising.

  • Just bought 50 through various emails and facebook accounts :D

    • +1

You can buy 99 with one email address 0_o

      • They dropped that down to 10 pretty quick

    • +1

There are more than twice as many stores that are on the participating list than there are on the uncertain list.

      • -7

That's great for you, but it's not a bargain if i have to spend $10 in fuel to get to the nearest store that's on the participating list, passing 4 other stores on my way.

        • note the "if"??

        • +2

It's still a bargain, just not one that you personally can take advantage of. That's not grounds for you to neg the deal. (your neg has been revoked now anyway)

    • +1

This is literally a FREE bargain. You don't pay anything until you physically go into a 'participating' store to buy them.

Plus, same as the previous deals with scanned coupon pages, it all depends on the manager working the shift. Some accepted the printed out scan copies, but quite a few others didn't. Still, no reason to neg. You're still free to do so, and my comment won't stop you negging otherwise based on your personal reasoning, but from experience if the community doesn't agree with your reasoning for negging them it'll get auto-revoked sooner or later just as it did here.

I prefer to neg based on fraudulent activity, failure to deliver, not holding to a listed price or simply something not being a bargain based on pure price comparison.

  • works fine, got 99 and getting some more with my other emails

  • I'm pretty sure you won't need 99, my understanding is you can print the same voucher multiple times and just redeem at different stores or the same store once per day.

  • Why can I only get 10 max?

  • It's a Deal. :-)

  • +5

I might be CH33ZEBURG3R but my GF calls Me Whopper lol

    • +1

Well it's the secret sauce (aka fry sauce) that makes a true man!

  • +1

This is one way to deal with the low-ish beef prices due to the floods…

    • +1

      You're terrible Muriel!

  • This is what Ozbargain is all about! Love it!

    • +1

      What? crashing commercial websites? lol

      • +1

Why of course :) It's always a great feeling to have already snagged a deal and then watch as the server explodes in others faces!

  • Just wondering, is the meat they have going bad ….lol how can one explain this crazy deal but to only doubt it! O.O

    • +1

It's masses of free advertising for Scoopon. I don't really see how HJ's thinks they will gain through it, but whatever floats their boat, I guess.

      • HJ can do this deal at a small loss, it costs more to advertise on the media, which can not guarantee any revenue.

      • +2

A lot of people will be adding overpriced drinks, etc to their order….

        • Uh huh and they have put in salty chips this time with offer, gonna make people want a cocca cola with their burger.

        • +2

Any true ozbargainer will trade the drink for a 50c soft-serve cone :P

  • +3

Echo the thoughts of others: thank you for allowing us to substitute to the Veggie Whopper!

    • what's in a veggie whooper?? does it taste alike to a normal whopper??

Now that i think about it, it sounds pretty bad, but i would like your opinions of the burger though.

      • +1

It's pretty yummy when they make it right!
Nice range of ingredients. but really, if you think it doesn't sound like a nice burger then don't bother with it.
Most people who eat them are most likely vegetarians or on diets.
(Veggie burgers/whoppers are usually just a burger with salad like normal, except the patty is made from a mix of vegetables such as potato, peas & carrots.)

      • Just remember it's not actually healthier. LH did a guide today: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2011/03/takeaway-food-week-burg…

        • it has MORE kjs than the normal whopper??

oh i see, slabs of oil on whatever the mean substitute.

        • If you look at the detailed information provided on the HJ site, the picture is even more bleak than that portrayed by LH.

Not merely does the veggie burger have more kjs than the normal whopper, it also has less protein, considerably more carbs, a good deal more salt and a bit more sugar.

The chips and veggie burger combo would provide 77% of one's recommended daily intake of sodium (vs 52% for the whopper combo), and 74% of one's recommended daily intake of fat.
