  • Never seen this one in local stock. Is this better than x34gs?

    • There isn't much reviews or information out there but the ones I could find seem to indicate it uses the same panel as X34GS and GN850.

    • This is essentially near-identical to the X34GS with the same panel. X34GS is certified g-sync compatible whereas this one is not. That's the only difference I can find.

For the record, I've had the X34GS for a few months now and it's been fantastic. The only minor gripe is the backlight bleed / IPS glow in the corners which was to be expected.

For this money, wouldn't you be better off with the AW38XxDW?

I have almost bitten on those Dell 38 deals before but I keep getting cold feed because of the relatively poor contrast and the lack of an sRGB clamp.

I'm also on the fence about the 38" size - it's just a bit too big for my desk. A 34" monitor with the 3840x1600 resolution would be awesome but I've seen no mention of any company making or planning such a monitor. (My GTX 1070 will probably cry even with the UWQHD resolution of this Acer. If I make it drive something like the Dell AW38 it'll probably have a heart attack.)

Wouldn't any Nano IPS panel exhibit poor contrast issue or is the Dell AW3821DW especially bad?

        • I think you're right, I think all the LG panel-based ones are similar - advertise as 1000:1 but are closer to 800:1 (Dell AW3821DW, LG 38WN95C, LG 38GN950 etc.).

The Predator X38 seems to do a bit better on contrast, somehow (I'm not sure if it's using the LG panel or something else) and supposedly the variable backlight feature improves this further - not sure how, exactly, because it's not FALD… It probably just adjusts to match the brightest part of the scene, and the blacks get raised or lowered accordingly. It seems to be hard to get and a fair bit more expensive though.

          • @tophorus: Yeah and this is making the next upgrade kinda tough. I don't want to get a low contrast screen. I mean 1000:1 is not that great to begin with and definitely don't want to go down 800:1.

I used to run a 1070 and 3440x1440 monitor, it's not as bad you think it might be, just had to run demanding games at medium

3840x1600 would be an extra 24% pixels on top of that.

      • Yeah my 1070 is driving a 3440x1440.
        She struggles ……
The monitor does 144hz but my GPU rarely pushes past 90fps on most games.

        • Lol yep, I ended up biting with this deal, so now I'm pushing this exact monitor with my 1070!

Monitor is great - couldn't go bigger on my desk, too - but apart from older games like Rocket League or Black Mesa it kind of struggles. I get 144hz on those, but Shadow of the Tomb Raider gets about 43, even with lowering the settings a bit! Adaptive sync helps, but it's still not ideal.

    • Personally I think the SAGRBBQ42069FAS%ergq34 is the superior monitor.

Very interesting looking option, and I'm sorely tempted, but the lack of any kind of reviews online are holding me back. Some of the other Acer monitors seem to be good on paper but apparently fall short in reality.

3440 x 144 damn gameboy getting some crazy ultrawide screens man.

  • genuine question: at this price tag wouldn't you just go with the samsung g7 for ~$150 cheaper? Yes the G7 is 2" smaller at 32" inch but still QHD, 1MS response, HDR600 where as the acer is HDR400, 240hz to the 180hz on the acer, QLED to the IPS panel on the acer. Unless im missing something else

Form factor is the key difference (16:9 vs UW) - different audiences. Personlly I have a 4k 1ms screen for the ps5, and the older version of this monitor (X34P) for everything PC. Massive difference for me, wouldn't go back to 16:9 for my main.

    • I think the 32" G7 is a VA panel albeit a very good one but it has a lower ppi. I still think it is a different class though because the one we're talking here is an ultrawide monitor.

  • I used to own an X34P and upgraded to the AW3821DW. Wish i stuck with 34" as I think it's perfect having owned both.

    • Could you expand on what you didn't like about the AW3821DW? I am also considering if I should upgrade to 38" or to a better 34" or keep my current 34" and add another 34".

Just the games I play. 34” and how far away I sit pretty much allows me to see the whole screen in my peripherals, whereas the 38” I actually have to physically move my head to see the parts of the screen.

I think now that it’s been about 6 months I’m pretty used to it, but going from the X34P to the AW3821DW wasn’t easy and I actually noticed my stats drop off dramatically with the new screen. Picked up now however and in most other cases, pixels, brightness, and using it for watching stuff it is superior to the X34P. That being said, this new one has better peak brightness and a faster panel. So I think I’d prefer it over the AW3821DW personally.

Plus my line of work is such that I move around every couple of years. Moving a 38” monitor is hard. The box is huge hah. Didn’t fit in my car with the box so I had to lay it behind a seat whereas the X34P box did fit in my car.

  • Genuine question but its over $1K and not even 4K?

    • Ultrawide aspect. 1.5 1440p monitors in 1.

I have the old model X34P and it's been utterly fantastic. This looks like a slight upgrade in every regard. Wish I had the HDR on mine, even though this is only HDR400.
