Smeg Home Barista Fully Automatic Coffee Machine Matte Red BCC02RDMAU $1039.20 Delivered @ MYER

250

For the "brand" concerned, here is a pretty good deal on a newly released coffee machine from Smeg. Normal price $1299. AppliancesOnline has slowly reduced their price from $1182 to $1105 but they don't have stock till Jan 22. They refused to price match Myer a week ago because of lack of stock.

Oh, and currently there is a promotion through Smeg for a milk jug and 1kg coffee beans.

Myer has had the reduced price advertised for more than a week but ZERO stock. Now it appear they have stock for delivery.

In a few colours.

Black - out of stock

Also available in NON frother version but ALL out of stock despite the reasonable price reduction.

    Smeg

Definitely looks like it’s out of Red Dwarf…

      Smegma?

    • Why don't you smegging well smeg off, you annoying little smeggy smegging smegger? - Classic Rimmer

      • It's Arnold Arnold Arnold Rimmer he's also a fantastic swimmer….

    • Pacific Rimmer
Smoke me a Kaiju, I'll be back for breakfast!

  • Hopefully looks better in person, looks like cheap quality plastic, not a premium finish at all.

    • It does.

Smeg defiently doesn’t look better on a person

  • $996 @ TGGC, i assume it wouldn't come with the Jug or beans though

    • You sure ?????

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/SearchDisplay?categoryId=&sto…

They are selling for $1299 for the frother and $1099 non frother versions.

And TGG are part of the promotion.

      • TGGC = Good guys commercial

        • Oh, ok.

          • @soupratt: $996 Frother
            $843 Without

They are usually excluded from promotions but sometimes it works…

            • +1

@Superstar15: I got the TGG (non commercial) to beat the Myer price a week ago for $1038…

              • @soupratt: yeah, so its really $42 for beans and a Jug, so it depends on their value to someone

                • @Superstar15: And TGGC doesn't seem to have the red with frother which is what I wanted. They do have all the other colours.

    It LOOKS great!

    • and a brain dead disagreed.

  • Tempting as someone with a small kitchen but it seems very targeted at people wanting to upgrade from their nespresso. All the reviews are about how easy it is and the functionality is extremely limited.

I wish Breville would make a taller bambino with integrated grinder, I'd be all over it.

    • It is very compact and minimalistic looking compared to most.

  • Is the grinder one setting?

    • I think at least 8 grind settings

      • The image of the grinder shows 5 settings.

    • Link Photo 4 shows a grinder adjustment dial.
Looks very similar to a Delonghi adjustment knob.

  • Smemeg is a good brand

      Smeg? Good brand? Yeah, nah

      • +1

I've never worked out why ppl rate Smeg either!

    • +3

*It’s perceived as a good brand by many

    • It’s as good as Smegma

For a second I thought it was a screwdriver with a mount.

If there is no name of smeg on the machine, it looks like $400.

    • It's really about how it performs though isn't it, it's not like it looks particularly bad or anything.

Is there a comparable product from another brand for $400?

  • +2

$700 for the brand and $300 for the machine? Most likely it’s made by contract manufacturer that also making machines for lower end brands

    • Is there comparable machines for $300? Genuine question as I'm a complete coffee noob but a fully automatic coffee machine for $300 sounds good to me.

If you buy this, please make sure you're buying it because it looks good, not because you expect it to make good coffee.

For the price, you'd be far better off getting a Breville Barista Pro if you want a nice balance of automation and control, or a Breville Dual Boiler if you enjoy the act of making coffee as much as drinking it. The latter can easily rival or surpass coffee from any specialty cafe, if you use comparable ingredients (good water/coffee/milk) and hone your technique.

If you're here to save space and money but still want a substantially better shot than this Smeg, get a Breville Bambino Plus and a hand grinder (minimum Timemore C2).

I'm not a Breville sales rep; they're just, hands down, the best latte machines under 1k.

If you buy this because it looks good, please make sure you visit your local optician.

    • I couldn't agree more. I have the Breville Bambino Plus and it's awesome. I would say that the Bambino Plus and Smart Grinder Pro is a better option for lazy people as you get the auto milk wand.

Also, if space really is an issue then the manual version of this looks pretty cool

Better off with a Rancilio Silvia! Known brand and product for lots of years. Mine is 8 years now and works like on the first day! It’s cheaper too…

    • +2

Silvia is wonderfully built, but without a PID or pre-infusion pressure, it takes far more skill (and some luck) to pull a consistently good shot compared to a Breville of a similar price, especially if you change your coffee beans around a bit.

    • Agree 100%. And if you mod it with a PID it's even easier to produce great quality cups. Other than lack of awareness of it (and maybe wanting 1 button push coffee), never got why people would spend this kind of coin on expensive consumer gear over entry level enthusiast stuff like the Sylvia.

I bought the Beko version of this machine during March 2020 COVID time. Does pretty good coffee. Paid 320ish back then.

No way I will pay 1k for this though lol

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-automatic-c…

    • So it is just a rebadged generic.

$458 sounds ok if it makes good coffee

    • +3

      It's a smegin' Beko!

      • It’s actually a Bekoing Smeg

    • Yeah, Smeg do this all the time - they also do a version of the DeLonghi Dedica Manual Coffee Machine EC685BK which goes for 3x the cost

  • +1

    Makes very creamy coffee

After one week, our "smeg" kettle because a "meg" and then a "me". Took it back and got a $15 kettle from kmart and have had no issues for 4 years.

    • After one week, our "smeg" kettle because a "meg" and then a "me"

You must have bought the first model where the SMEG were flat stickers. The second model has raised stickers where this shoudn't happen.

We bought a Smeg oven for $500 more than the similar tier Westinghouse. We regret the purchase every day. The oven bakes unevenly and is in no way anything out of the ordinary. Except for the price tag. My first and last Smeg. Crap for the rich in my opinion.

    • +1

Smeg fridge came last in a recent Choice magazine review

    • +2

My partner wanted a SMEG oven. Her parents 'died' and they got a new one. I got their old one and replaced the element with the element from our existing Aldi oven. Also same globe, fan, hinges, seals. So it's basically an Aldi oven with a smeg badge. She's happy though and it "cooks much better than the Aldi oven"… Smile and nod…smile and nod!
