TP-Link Deco X20 AX1800 Mesh Wi-Fi (2 Pack) $238.90 Delivered @ Harris Technology via Catch ($226.95 PB @ Officeworks)

280

TP-Link Deco X20 AX1800 (2-pack) up for grabs @ Catch, but supplied and delivered by Harris Technology (Hallam, Victoria). Purchased it this morning over the phone with Officeworks with a Price Beat of $226.95. They've got other TP-Link items as well, which seem cheaper than most of the other online offers.

Aside from the price beat, went ahead with OW because of Harris Technology's recent mixed reviews on Catch.

  • This vs the Eero 6?
I've been keeping my eye on both I just don't know which one to get!
For your information I am signed up with Superloop.

I have an eero. Im not impressed that features that would be free on other routers, are locked behind a $5/month paywall. Examples: Activity Reporting, Historical Data, blocking and allowing sites. Overall it depends what you use it for.
And to add to this, these features used to be free and avaliable in the app to use. But ever since they introduced the subscription, its been blocked.

      • Wait our routers are going some strange half owned PaaS thing? Hardpass.

        • Yeah it's weird. I don't like it, considering i spend over $400 for these.

      • Ah wtf! Looks like I'm going to avoid the Eero now. Thanks for the info!

I have these. They are excellent but a couple of points:

    • Only dual band (no backhaul)
    • Well-known but unfixed incompatibility issue with Ring Cameras, if you use them.
    • No ability to track internet data usage using in-built software

Overall would definitely recommend however, their speed and coverage has been excellent for my use.

    • I'll have to google this but what was the issue with Ring Cameras?

      • Unable to connect at all/ disconnection issues/cameras just failing completely

Worth googling. I bought a ring doorcam with the intention of buying extra cameras but could never get it to connect. Googling led me to realise it was a widespread issue

    • No dedicated backhaul is not necessarily a bad thing and can actually have some advantages for those in areas with excessive bandwidth contention.

I think this deco x20 has facilities for wired back haul.

Lot of mesh systems have issues with Zoom and Teams, just google that before buying.

    • This is very good info, thanks very much for the heads up. I have been looking at mesh systems today and my partner uses both working from home.

    • Zoom and Teams can have problems with single routers too and ISP routing can be a problem.

Have used many conference system for years with Decos - no problems.

  • I have these at home, my nbn speed sucks anyways so I don't need wireless backhaul.
    So far nil issues

  • What is the ideal distance between each node?

I actually have the Deco DSLand this could go nicely.

  • Bought the 3-pack from The Good Guys couple of weeks ago. It is brilliant for people who are not tech savy (like me).
Note that it is easy to setup if you are on TPG NBN internet with TP-Link router. Plug the first one into the TP-Link router and not to the NBN modem.

Honestly, these mesh networks are brilliant for tech savvy people too. I'm no longer spending stupid amounts of time fixing network problems at home or for half my extended family. Simple to set up, they work without issue and they provide great coverage throughout the house. Wish I'd switched earlier.

Only plugin the TP-Link Deco to the TP-Link VR1600v TPG gave you if you make home phone calls.

If you don't use the home phone you plugin the TP-Link Deco to the nbn box.

  • The Asus XD4 mini supports ethernet backhaul. 2 packs is currently $349 @wireless1 (5% less @officeworks for PB).

    https://www.wireless1.com.au/asus-zenwifi-ax-mini-xd4-ax1800…

https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-zen-w… ($439 but can probably show them wireless1's price for price beat)

      Decos also support Ethernet backhaul.

$224 on the good guys commercial too if anyone has access to it

  • This or the Tenda 2 pack for $195?
    https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/tenda-mw12-2-pack-ac2100-tri-ban…

Mostly used for WFH Teams and Zoom calls plus the occasional Netflix and torrents.

    • Easily this. The Tenda is only WiFi 5.

    • +1

This as the Tenda is AC which is wifi 5 and this is wifi 6. Faster transfer speed and more channels throughput with wifi 6.

  • is this a modem/router or a router only? as look to replace my all in one dlink modem/wireless router

  • Does anyone know how these compare to the Nighthawk Dual-Band WiFi 6 Mesh System? You can get a 2 pack of them directly for $299 from negear.

    • Here is a comparison but it's on the x60 instead of the x20

      https://dongknows.com/asus-xd4-vs-netgear-mk63-vs-tp-link-x6…

    • Only reason to go the Nighthawk is that it's EasyMesh certified (which only matters of you are going to expand your mean down the track.)

      • Right OK, so an industry mesh certification. I see these TP-link models have TP-Link Mesh but I guess that means they only work with other TP link models.

  • I'm looking for a solution for my mum who's in her 70s - so highest speed for her isn't an issue but good reliable coverage is around her house. Perhaps the TP Link M5 3 pack is a better option for the same rough price?
