LG 3.1.2CH 440W Soundbar (SP8YA) $624 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

60

First time poster so go easy…

Pulled the trigger on this one last Friday and wanted to see what everyone else thought of the deal.
Ticked all the right boxes for me at this price point (eARC, decent sub & fantastic wireless playback options)

RTINGS Review here: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/lg/sp8ya

Apparently this retailed for $950 at release.
Been keeping an eye on it for a month or so and before this week it was at $850 at JB, Good Guys, Betta, etc.

Has dropped to $750 at those stores today and found it on appliances online for $689 that doesn't need the GG membership.

Can you get wireless rear speakers with these?

    • +2

      Sure can - SPK8-S

edit - oh wait these aren't wireless :( They connect to the main unit wirelessly, but have their own little hub that is cabled into.

  • Reviews compliment the sound but the comments regarding the annoying LED display sound annoying…

I bought one of these last week. I thought the LED display might get annoying but to be honest I don't even notice it. Took a few days before rest of family even noticed it and asked what the ARC meant. It dims a bit when in use and doesn't really stand out.

    • Is there really no option to turn off the LED display? Seems like a bit of a deal breaker

  • How does this compare to the Samsung HW-Q700A/XY? Similar in price.

This has more bass compared to HW-Q700A/XY, but Samsung is slightly better when it comes to surround. I've returned my Samsung after 2 days and got this instead, I like a punchy bass and watch a lot of action movies.

  • Can you use gift cards on the commercial website?

The new Samsung q900a is on sale for 999 at good guys and Samsung. With zip, it will be around $900 which must be better for a 7.1.4 system isn’t it? I have both a q900t (7.1.4 system, 2020 version of the q900a which I got for around 800 last year) and a lg sl10y (5.1.2 system) from a couple of years ago. I do find the Samsung to be much better in terms of sound and the speech of the lg to be much muddier and unclear despite turning up the centre speaker.

  • jfyi :) .. $901.55 on Samsung EPP now https://imgur.com/eVwGSOT

    • What is EPP? Edit: employee program!
