I got a reply from Amazon France offering me a 50 euros refund. If I buy battery from local Dyson I am still 12$ short. Anyway I would prefer this than sending it back and waiting for another unit (which Amazon said they don't have in stock). I am quite happy with Amazon's response, however unhappy with Dyson.
+1 to Amazon! Their customer service is pretty good!
I agree not too bad if you consider how much Australia Post will slug you on extortionate shipping charges. Ebay or Amazon for a new battery? You might not lose much at all.

For those that bought from Amazon, what attachments does the DC35 come with? Do I need to order an accessory kit (smaller brush tools etc) if I also want to use it for cleaning the car?
It came with… a motorised floor tool, a combination accessory tool and a crevice tool.
The combination accessory tool and crevice tool will be fine to clean your car with :D
Can you still order one from Amazon Fr or have they stopped deliver to Aust?
Mine arrived today. Gave it a try and the battery didn't last that long. Now I've dropped it on charge. I decided to buy another battery from a guy on ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/180849422233?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN… It worked out to just over $45 delivered for another generic battery.
I've also splurged on the accessory kit. I reckon its worth it. It just gives you more versatility for the tedious task of cleaning.

Mine arrived today and the thing only works intermittently !!! Pull the trigger the light flickers on and the motor makes a little click but no joy. After pressing the trigger 100 times it fires up and stays only for the current trigger pull, only to not work again on when tried again.
I have googled around an found there is a sensor which is under the filter pad that has caused someone else an issue - I'm thinking i'm going to have to send mine in for Dyson repair (at my cost) on day 1.
A bit of a sad story, but I played the grey import game and looks like I lost.
