Sony X9000H 85" 4K Full Array LED Android TV (2020) $3488 + Delivery ($0 to Select Areas/ C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

990

What else to say? One of Ozbargainer's fav TV. This might be the last chance to get this TV below $3500. Harvey Norman and JB seem the only 2 retailers still have stock. If you cannot get one from JB, try to price match at HN.

It is 2020 model but the VRR and ALLM are on the way. This is a decent tv and the price is too good.

    • Assuming it has been used for several months or longer then from my perspective, it's effectively second-hand. Part of it's useful life has been consumed when used potentially all day, every day while on display. Would you pay $3.5k for a relatively new, second-hand TV? If the answer is yes then go for it. If not then pass.

    • why buy display stock, when you can just order from the link?

      • +1

He's in Perth. No stock showing online within 200km. So when he/she tries to check out it won't let them complete the order.

      • No Stock in Perth. Found only 1 display in whole WA but thinking to let it go as it is a display stock and has been used as display for more than 1 year. I am going to pass.

        • +1

          Good decision mate!

        • Maybe they'll discount it further if you hit them up?

          • @Unsafe: How much should I be settling for a display stock given its already at the 3500 mark?

            • @touchriver: I'm guessing if they still have it - the last one of them at a ridiculously low price in WA - they're having trouble selling it.
Full warranty & although used, well treated - I'm guessing will be JB's pitch.
$3000…if u have your bargaining hat on.

              • @Unsafe: I had ordered one online, but when I went to JB to click collect, they said the piece was faulty and nothing is available. I had a confirmed order, had checked with the store in the morning and afternoon and it's their fault. I would have stomped out if I had not used the $3k gift vouchers to make the purchase and hired a ute to get there.

I was upset and they offered display one for me at 3200. Asked for extended warranty and they gave it. I got too stressed to think anything more. Later, I thought display ones went for like 30-40% reduced price. But if it goes down like to only 3k, I can live with that.

                $3200
                3 years extended
                free delivery tomorrow.

@benzy thanks for your suggestion to look up the manufacturing date. Will check once it is delivered.
Hope it is 2021 and live to its hype, fingers crossed.

Edit: I should add that the store person were polite and was willing to go for a new model. I was fixated on 9000H and did not want to think anymore. thats when they offered the display one.

  • Very tempted but haven't researched TVs recently.

How is the X9000h compared to the competition in the 85 inch size?
And the concern re poor wide viewing angle. How bad is it really?
    Arrgh. Decisions, decisions

Got this about a month ago for similar price when Price matching from the GG deal with JB

Massive TV, looks mint on the wall
Very happy with it so far upgrading from a 50” plasma

Just using it for tv/movie content not gaming. So many picture settings and haven’t had much of a play. Only issue is that my old 720p content isn’t as nice anymore hahaha

I have it on a 15deg swivel mount to watch from the kitchen about 10m away, perfectly fine to view from a 45ish dev angle in the other room

  • Gaaah none in WA :(

  • probably one of the best TVs out there with decent size and good price.

  • +2

Pulled the trigger after much thought 👌👌💪💪

  • i will buy one next year..i guess i can save 1500 by then?

    • +1

It's already a 2020 model. Waiting until next year, you run the risk of there being no suppliers or stock and a 2+ year old TV.

  • Been trawling through the YouTube videos on this TV. Pretty rave reviews!
    Mostly US/Canada. Presumably the same.

  • Does anyone know that can this TV be laid flat for transport in the back of a SUV with rear seats folded?

    • +3

Never lay your tv flat or you will crack it on a speed bump. Also transport upright position

      • Thanks mate. Bought one today and now wondering how to pick it up

  • +1

love sony tv, i bought the 75" x9500h for $2780. only if i could afford the 85"

  • what is the model name for this same TV at HN? I could not find it on their website.
I have few of their gift cards lying around.

  • Was in Costco and they have this TV on display, price $3959.

Was really impressed by the picture quality, seemed the best of all the TVs they had there.
Might have been just the settings, but looks great!

Also, the picture quality fall off going off-centre didn't seem too bad. By the time the picture quality dropped too much, it was already at an angle that would be unpleasant to be watching.
Same as most of the other TVs on display.

  • Pulled the trigger on the jb deal!

Also had 5% off gift cards from my health insurance hcf they charge1 % cc processing fee.

    So used 5 x $500 gift cards

    Total price paid $3386.75

    • +1

Same. Pulled a trigger. 5% gc came at $3,313.60 delivered. Can’t wait to receive it.

      • Which gift cards did you use?
I hate how hcf charge a 1% commission

        • +1

My benefits. It charges my CC 0.5% admin fees too but I used Visa debit to take advantage of full 5% off gc.

          • @bhunter101: Lucky as

            Mine says this

"Payments made with a debit or credit card are subject to a 1.00% surcharge"

Anyway can't wait for this beast to arrive and have it wall mounted!

            • +1

@DjRewind: Which mount did you get?
Ps. Make sure you screw 8-10 screws and not just 4. It’s heavy.

              • @bhunter101: I bought a house which settled on Friday which already has a wall mount in the TV room. Not sure what make it is. The previous owner left a bag with all the bolts. I hope it fits, if not what do you suggest?

                • +1

@DjRewind: I haven’t done much research yet. My 60” is already mounted so it might work with this tv.

              • -1

@bhunter101: 4 screws is plenty. 1 screw in a stud itself will hold the weight of a person. Don't over engineer it.

                • +1

@adam149: I read a comment on here or on rtings who had their tv fall. Better safe then sorry.

    • Hey! Is it JB gift cards that you bought specifically from HCF? I can’t seem to find them!

      • +1

Yeah hcf thank you rewards. Login with your membership

  • +1

Waited a few days to think about this. Checked out some youtube reviews and convinced this is a really good price and quality for the tv. Pulled the trigger with gift cards.

  • I can’t find anywhere where I can get delivery to Wollongong 2500.
    Can anyone help please?

    • Being delivered on 20/10. Ordered yesterday. Vic Metro.

      • Lucky you 👍

But I can’t find one that delivers for the Wollongong area.

  • Thank you. Purchased from JB. Spoke to HN for price match, but they declined saying this price is too good to match!

    • +1

Yeah they said same thing to me. Dodgy would never buy from HN.

      • +3

Their price match policy is the dodgiest, it should be renamed "we only price match if we feel like it"

  • +1

The TV arrived today and boy is the box HUGE!

Any suggestions on good wall brackets for this one? Cheers.

  • +3

Ok. The giant box was delivered today. Excellent delivery service. SMSed 15min before arrival with a tracker. Delivery people were friendly and helpful, especially considering the size of the box. Got it into the living room for us.

Set up the TV tonight and love it. Felt too big initially, but now just right.
Well produced YouTube videos look fantastic. Been watching the 4K demo reels etc all night.

So many settings to adjust on the TV, so hard to get on top of it.
One setting I changed was to reduce motion flow to setting 1 and turn off the alternating black frame. Am very sensitive to the soap box effect and can't stand it!

Summary: Fabulous picture quality. Really happy with purchase.

    • +1

Haha OMG after trying doing all my research on Ozbargain on what to buy, Im gonna need a separate forum to tell me what settings i need to change. So much work for a person who is R-G colorblind and short sighted.

I bought this and the G1 recently. What settings are key to optimize?

  • Btw how much stock did JB HiFi have? Surprised it hasn't gone out of stock.

    • +2

When i called them on Saturday they said they had 10 left at the warehouse

  • +1

What do you guys think of getting extended warranty? How much is it? Worth it?
What’s the trend? Do people get it?

    • +3

I tend to think Australian Consumer Law will cover you for a reasonable time. A reputable firm will take the hit, rather than defend in tribunal. The idea that a retailer can sell a 3K tv that breaks after 12 months is ridiculous. On the other hand, I make sure to buy such items with my westpac CC which adds 2yrs to the 1yr warranty. ANZ and NAB add another 12 months to a 1yr mfg warranty but with zero excess (unlike Westpac)

Take with grain of salt as I havent had experience of taking things back after 3+ yrs. If you do get it, i'd want it to cover 3-5 years. My brother in law got 2 brand spanking new TVs coming just up to 5 years since purchase, all thanks to purchasing extended warranty. Could he have got it anyway arguing ACL? Maybe. Peace of mind? Yes!

      • +8

FWIW this TV comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty. JB, by default, provides another 1.5 years of warranty on top of that, taking it to 2.5 years total warranty. This is for everyone.

The reason for this is JB has a voluntary warranty policy, which sets out that for goods over $2,000 there should be a minimum 2.5 years warranty. Where the manufacture warranty falls short of that timeframe, JB themselves cover the extra period as an extended warranty. In their view, it is to make that particular product's warranty consistent with ACL rights.

However that is not to say ACL rights end there. That is simply JB's blanket interpretation and frankly good on them for stepping up as a retailer to formally declare additional coverage where lacking. Tribunals and courts however will of course apply a reasonable time test, based in reference to a number of factors, value of goods, type of usage, and of course where available, precedents. So to give you an example, despite JB's policy, when purchasing a $5,000+ TV, which is used at home for personal use, it would not be unreasonable for a tribunal or court to find 5 years as a reasonable period of warranty (thus extending JBs voluntary warranty an extra 1.5 years - they give 3.5 years for items over $4k see link above).

The clincher here is you have to know to stand up for your rights, and be ready to nut it out with the retailer, manufacturer, ACCC, tribunal and/or court (if it gets to that but extremely unlikely). Otherwise, like a few things in life, there is a convenience fee, aka formally purchasing an extended warranty, which JB sells an extra 3 years of at ~$370 for this TV, taking it up to 5.5 years total coverage. HTH!

        • This is great to know mate!

And its gone…… Thanks Op managed to buy one, its huge and magnificent, colours are spectacular. Hooked it up to a sonos system and very immersive. The interface is also nice and quick, very happy with the purchase

  • Its a week since this TV arrived. We have it wall mounted and even the installer was sceptical at first. My wife had the "told you so" look on her face. I was like just install it and you will see.

Once the install was done, we were mesmerised. We are just 10-15 cms more than the recommended distance for this tv size but it is AMAZING!
In terms of picture quality, it comes close to the LG C1 55 inch OLED we have upstairs. I would call it a notch below OLED performance and I havent yet fully tinkered with the settings yet. The out of the box picture quality was amazing.

Once again, if you are on the fence about 65 v/s 75 v/s 85 inches and you have space for the 85 inches then go for it!!!!! The installer was stunned and my wife has made a U-turn since and I have had this smug look alternating with a wide grin that ALONE makes it worth it mind you!

Loved watching genuine 4k content like the Grand Tour on prime and some top quality 4k videos on youtube. Midnight mass's first episode looked stunning. Watched a few movies like Wonderwoman 1984 and the wife said this is like watching at the theatres!

Now to complete my 5.1.2 HT speaker setup and it will be a dream. Speakers from ascension speakers in SA are on their way. Having said that, the TV's sound itself is brilliant.

The TV has the latest software update now but need to verify if it supports the latest HDMI features.

    • Glad you are loving the 85X9000H.
I got one and similarly have been blown away by the image quality and size.
The TV is in quite a bright family room and I think an OLED would not be as good.
No problems with side viewing angles in my use.

Key picture setting I changed was to turn off Motion Flow. I am very sensitive to the soap opera effect.
