Wharfedale SL824USB 8-Channel Studio/Live Mixing Console $299 (RRP $599) + $10-$20 Postage

30

Was just emailed this special. Nothing spectacular and ignore the RRP as usual but this would be a nice little mixer for a bedroom DJ or to use in a small home studio, office, church or for a live act or small band. Handy USB interface too. Cheapest I've seen these is just over the $400 mark so this represents good value for a basic mixing console. Approx $10-20 Postage to capital cities. You've got until Friday 23rd or while stocks last. Rock on!

Compared to Behringer's gear, it seems more costly.
Plus, I didn't recognise the brand name of this one.

What makes it worth so much $…?

Eg, 5-input USB output Behringer was under $60 on eBay.

For under $300 (incl access'y kit + Shipping), you can -import- a very portasble Zoom H4n (with 4-inputs - possibly counting 2 top-mounted stereo mic's?) device that's ALSO an MP3 -recorder- (& it lets you change the playback speed of your recordings!) It might let you record in Broadcast WAV format" to enable writing of time-stamps, that you can access directly later.

Did I mention, that both of these are much smaller (read: more portable) that this Deal's item?

PS I wonder if you could connect your mic's & instruments across 2 non-USB mixers, and feed those into 2 inputs of (more than 2, depending on the 3rd mixer you use) into a 5 (or more) -input Behringer USB mixer and get more for less $….? (You might get 10 usable external inputs for under $180, ie, with 3 smaller mixers (2 with non-USE outputs + 1 with USB output) :-)

Didn't recognise the brand? Odd. Wharfedale have been making high-end speakers for over 80 years but granted they're probably not as famous now as they used to be a couple of decades ago plus I agree I never knew they had gone into active audio gear until I saw this today. I assume it's just another in a long line of 'famous' brands who have had to diversify by rebadging generic Chinese stuff… not that that's a bad thing of course. Meh, a $400 product selling for $300 seemed good enough for me to post it here but obviously not. Oh well, better luck next time ;)

        Hey SteveAndBelle,

cheers for putting this up. It got me doing some reading and, although not the most popular bargain on the site, it increased my motivation to get a basic recording set up at home.

        So, thanks for sharing. ;-)

        • No probs Festy. There has been a plethora of cheap audio gear flooding the market over the last 10 years and although it's nothing like 'old school' quality it's still pretty decent stuff, especially for casual/home type use… and the best bit is it'll just get cheaper & cheaper over time too, nice! It's just up to us to research & understand the SQ specs (assuming they're accurate & reliable of course) and make sure it meets expectations.

Did you just compare Behringer to ANYTHING else on the market….?
