$2 cheaper than the last deal. Thanks Clear for title & description.

really wish they made 2242 only enclosures.. there's a few M.2 NVMe 2242 drives that would make idea portable solutions.

    Thanks for posting though, tempted.

    • Sorry for noob questions: Did you mean this enclosure doesn't support M.2 NVMe 2242? How well the enclosure support current SSD drives?

      • +4

I think they mean they wish there were drives which ONLY support 2242 so they would be very small (USB stick size).

2242 is listed in the description, along with others.

2242 is shorter than the standard 2280 NVMe drive. The enclosure supports 2242 but it's unnecessarily large for it.
A 2242-only enclosure would be better since it would be smaller and more portable.

Thanks guys! Looking for a versatile enclosure for most kinds of drives so this suits me well.

  • Thanks! I have 1 Gen 3 NVMe lying around after I upgraded to Gen4. Now I can put it to use!

  • Anyone know if this has an ASMedia or JMicron chipset?

  • I got one from last deal for $15 delivered with tracking, different outer shape though. I think it got a JMicron controller.

Still $19.94 delivered for some colours (also it may show some coupons for you which will give you a further discount) , select M key 10 Gbps NVMe, that's what I got from last deal for my SN550 1TB (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/645184)

Good price but that's M key only, not dual protocol like the one in this deal. Obviously not an issue if you're only using it with one drive, but it's not a strictly comparable product :)

      • Yes, can SATA drives support 10 Gbps (SATA max speed is 600 MBps, which is roughly 4.8 Gbps) ? I thought only NVMe can support that speed

        • +1

It's more about flexibility. I have a mix of SATA and NVMe M.2 drives, so being able to use one enclosure for both is very convenient. If you're only using one type then a dual protocol enclosure is unnecessary.

          • @miarn: Ah, that makes sense :) I wanted to make a faster and cheaper external SSD than buying a T5 etc.
