Please don't assume that. I haven't and I'm not anti-vax (I loathe that inaccurate term as pretty much every single person in Australia has been vaccinated multiple times), and I've probably had twice as many as most people. But it's medically unsafe for me to have one, and we get persecuted enough from the media, the public, the knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers and the shop keepers who don't know the rules. I also can't wear a mask but I have an exemption for that - as long as people honour it. But I'll assume the event is too far for me anyway.

  • I am 289 yo and i am ready to party!

I would love to join a meet up if it happens in Brisbane 🤗🤗

I'll hold a Brisbane one! Any suggestions for a venue?

      • Oh really that's great thank you!
Hmm preferably any venues in the city area? Like Friday's riverside. Or the Plough inn in Southbank… sorry I'm not good at this 🤣

      • South Brisbane or Southbank like in 2019 would be great, heaps of public transport options

        • Thinking about Big Roddy's Ribs again. I didn't make it to the last one there (2019 I think) but it sounds like it was a good, affordable venue.

          Thoughts?

          • @stickyfingers: their location, craft beer selection, food…..all very good…

am also concerned very few people will notice this thread..I check ozb twice a day but I never look at the Notice boards on the right hand side…I only look at the deals…this thread is more than a month old but I only noticed it this arvo…..have feeling dozens of others will miss this

also just noticed now that "knobbs" from a few posts up has offered to look for a venue

            • +2

@LSGH: Just waiting on the venue to confirm and I'll start the thread. Hopefully many will have search alerts. It might even be a deal?

          • @stickyfingers: Yeah the last one at Big Roddy's was pretty good. Location/food/value
I was potentially going to do a BNE one but have lots on so if you are keen happy to tag along to yours. There are at least 12 people above that were keen to go so I think we can get a group together.
A few others (I like American BBQ) I was looking at were
            Frankie's smokehouse - Wooloongabba
            Hudson Corner - Albion
            Smokey Moo - Newstead
            Buffalo Bar - CBD

            • @knobbs: great selection,…although, similar to last year, perhaps limit the location to CBD/Sth Brisbane/Southbank? to make it more central for everyone? but if majority prefer away from the CBD, majority wins :-)

              • +1

@LSGH: Yeah I think central is always better so Roddy's is the sensible choice.
Also without a venue/date I think it is hard for people to confirm. So once sticky hears back from Big Rod and we have a date, I think we just post it as that.

EDIT. Also can PM all the people that +'d my comment above about a BNE meetup with the event posting. Should get a few that way

                • @knobbs: Roddy's has said that the proposed booking is good but recommends that we consider their Fortitude Valley location as:

Our South Brisbane store is quite small, so you might be separated at different tables. The Valley is much larger, suited to bigger bookings. We validate parking there too!

I was learning towards the South Brisbane restaurant as many have mentioned it is easy to access, however, the Valley also has great PT and having us together as a group would be preferred.

Is the Valley too difficult to access for many?

Will I get interrogated if I turn up?

        • Depends if you pass the test for a human or we classify you as a bot

        • Wow I didn't know that Pizza hut all you can eat was still happening! Too far from Brisbane CBD though 🥲

    • I'll put my hand up to host in Brisbane too! Brewdog?

Nobody wants to catch up at Tribe of Judah in QLD?

  • Is there a WA party?

    • First comment of the post says no…

  • +2

Anyone keen to co-organise around Parramatta?

    • Sureeelyyy get Parramatta pumpinggg! :D

  • We've rolled out a brand new module to help event organisers register and checkin users that come to the event on the day (and where we can easily figure out who to give out the Not A Bot badges to).

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:event_checkin

The organisers might want to be familiar with this. More features will be added next week, hopefully before the first event on Wednesday. eg

    • Allow random prize draw to be implemented from pool of checked in users.
    • Allow some participants to facilitate checkin (so it's not just one single organiser)
  • I haven't heard anything about the Adelaide one, any news yet?

  • Here is a reminder for all who are currently organising, or intend to organise an event — please have details confirmed by this Thursday if you wish to have t-shirts posted to you, as Friday would be the last day I can do so.

You are still free to organise one if you can't confirm the number, time & location, and we will still sponsor those events by reimbursing the cost. However I won't be able to post any t-shirts out.

Perhaps have the 2nd in charge have one of their comments pinned and then they can edit it with more up to date information.

Or is it possible to have two editors for a forum post?

    • -1

No I mean in each event.

I'm not sure if moderators can set two editors for a forum post (power users can edit all deal or forum posts). Or if a pinned post can be set to edit for two weeks.

  • Some updates — we had 3 events in NSW, and more are coming up (3 more in NSW, and then in VIC & QLD). Thanks to those who organised and those who attended those events.

If you have taken photos and wished to post to social media, please tag them with #OzBargain15, or share them in the comments of those event posts.

For NSW events — if you have already attended at least one event, rather than going to even more meetings, maybe you should consider letting others to have a chance as well. Yes I know it's free lunch/dinner, but we are also a community so be part of the community.

    • For NSW events — if you have already attended at least one event, rather than going to even more meetings, maybe you should consider letting others to have a chance as well.

One person organised two events though?

      • Well, it's not enforced but just a recommendation. Also the organisers usually have to put in some effort (finding/booking the venue, logistic on the day, etc) but attendees basically just turn up, enjoy food and grab freebies.

Basically with events with smaller quota this year, I do hope more people can join, rather than having quota filled by the repeated attendees.

Just noticed that there is no events in ACT? Does anyone want to organise one? Happy to help you guys out if there's enough interest

  • -1

Happy Birthday, OzBargain. Thank you, @Scotty !

  • After the ACT meetup concluded our OzBargain meetup season this year, I did some calculation on the number of attendees and the overall cost, and managed to post up some data today. First of all some stats:

    • 14 events across Australia — 8 in NSW, 2 in Qld, and 1 in VIC, WA, TAS and ACT.
    • 265 checkins from 204 OzBargain users. One users went to as many as 9 events (while organising more than half of that — you know who you are :). There are also a few that went to 5 events.
    • Total contribution from OzBargain was $9,246.63. Majority of the events have over-blown the budget, which was $30/person.

Here's a scatter plot of events with number of attendees vs cost per person.

    OzB Meetup 2021 scatter plot

Those dots aren't labelled but some of you guys might be able to figure out from other posts.

    • Yay QLD had the biggest event, while being on budget too.

    • Wow. That's alot of money. Very generous of you/ozbargain team.

That also explains why ozbargain seems a bit slow today but I assume its cos you gotta cut costs to pay for those big events. :P
