I’ve used CyberGhost in the past and was very happy with their speeds and overall product.

Apparently alot of these services start off strong then just go to shit over time probably relegating themselves to deals like this just to get themselves even a mention in the sea of other sub par vpn services.

Just because it was once okay doesn't mean it is today. VPN's today need to offer beyond the basic service to keep pace with the market, multi-hop, pptp, wireguard, OpenVPN, android/iOS apps with individualised per-app basis and a wide selection of locations with plenty of available bandwidth, low latency and high security among a slew of other services to keep legitimate users interested.

Simply being "good" or "fast" isn't enough anymore. And in order to keep pace, those advancements don't come for nothing or by giving away their service for nothing for that matter so these sort of deals make me very sus.

There's a few premium services of note like mullvad but they even state they don't go on sale ever, and with good reason.

The old adage generally applies to these things, you get what you pay for.

VPN's today need to offer beyond the basic service

Depending on what you want it for of course.

My Yaris provides the same functionality around the city as the neighbours Ferrari.

  • What's the go with all these 100% cashback VPN things.

I know the products are real but like, what's the catch?

    • +3

      what's the catch

Generally, if something is free, you are the product.

And the other catch is you may not receive the cashback (based on people's experiences here).

      • They could be beefing up numbers before selling

    • +1

They hope that people forget to turn off auto renew or continue to use the service willingly after 12 months

The too-good-to-be-true offers aren't about getting you to buy their product. YOU are the product.

      https://restoreprivacy.com/kape-technologies-owns-expressvpn…

These VPNs cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

      • Based on the quick bit of reading I've done, damn this unfortunately seems to be true. It's pretty sketchy, proceed with caution.

      • I saw that a few weeks ago

the Question is tho whats everyone Switching To ?

some of the software for some of the VPNs is not very mature ….

  • Does it work with Netflix?

    • Doesn’t work for me. Tried us and jp servers.
      Has requested a refund already.

      • I believe there are dedicated servers for these, have another look

Kape Technologies is a big no from me.

    On a another subject.

I had both the shop back and cash rewards app opened this morning at the same time. they were both in the Myer store. I did a purchase in the shop back app and 20 minutes later I got rewards for that purchase in the CASHREWARDS app. I still have to receive the rewards from ShopBack

Has this ever happened to anybody ?

    • Obviously dealing with ShopBack is not worth it. Questionable practices, would go to great lengths to avoid paying your cashback. Let alone their data leak and how badly they handled it.

      Cashrewards for life!!!

last time i purchased 110 percent cashback for PIA. they only processed about 85 percent cashback.

    • Huh how come?

    • +1

I just had my 110% PIA cashback processed today.

      I paid $109. I got back $120.

Also previously did a nordvpn 100% cashback, that also got fully paid.

      • does does 101% reward work if i add the " dedicated ip " and " cyberghost password manager" ?

        What's the $109 inclueded?

  • +2

Just to share, similar deal like this
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643255

On 9 August bought PIA for $109 and just now got confirmation from shopback $120.95 lol…3 years access and profit…. I'm laughing hard…

    • Don't forget to turn off auto renewal!

      • Done. But also i used disposable revolut cc anyway…

        • Couldn’t find option to turn auto renewal off under Account option…. Is it via app or browser?

  • +3

Hard no for this. Cyberghost are dodgy as hell and have been purchasing VPN services and review sites. Not to mention all the stories about distributing malware.

If a VPN is free, they are most likely going to be selling your data at the very least. I would steer clear from anything like this..

  • There's a $10 bonus cashback challenge for Cyberghost right now. If you're really sceptical you can purchase the monthly plan for a single month then cancel the next month, get the 101% cashback from that and the bonus $10 cashback.
