    Thanks Op!

PS - did you mean to say "delivered with Amazon Prime "?

    • Haha, yeah I reckon I was thinking Disney Plus.

      • haha, all good, no worries :)

I was just concerned that there's ANOTHER subscription service :D

    • +3

no because its a $39 order its free delivery even without prime

      • Oh nice. I just assumed it was Prime as I'm subscribed.

  • +4

Not great performance. Slow to change between streaming services but plays ok.

    • Had the normal version for a few months now and its 100% way slower a few months on now then the first week now. Factory Reset kind of helped, but plex, netflix etc still crashes a lot more then I would like. Still Cheap enough but!

      • Same with mine, was snappy at first. Few months of use and now it's really slow. Seems to have intermittent connectivity issues occasionally too, even though being in LOS of the router.

        • +1

Contact Amazon, they might able to offer you something.

      • Should write a review on Amazon website to warning potential buyers.

    • So the non-lite version is much better is it?

      • Very happy with mine…

Your expectations maybe different to mine.. so YMMV

        • I've got one of the old stick versions of Chromecast that is pretty slow and overheats in summer so expectations aren't super high lol I mostly watch things in tablet tbh but I'm considering a Google tv or possibly a fire stick because they have the remote which is handy rather than needing your phone. I have friends in the US who use fire stick and apparently it's easy to configure it work with VPNs so you can stream region specific stuff easily?
So if anyone has experience with both (Google tv & firestick) I'd be grateful if you'd share your opinion/s

  • thanks Op, got one!

  • This is cheaper than Google TV, can you install Kodi on this?

    • Yes

    • Yes, but I think you might have to sideload it, rather than go through the App Store

      • +1

That’s right. You install an app called Downloader from the app store and then use it to sideload Kodi. Example instructions here

  • +3

    Own both this and GoogleTV

Yes you can install KODI, Tivimate, sideload most APK's via the downloader app

But be aware, this stick is SLOW, switching from netflix and opening plex takes 30 seconds to actually start watching a movie vs GoogleTV is 5-6 seconds

    • +3

that's why googletv is higher price

      • Kodi on Google tv is shockingly fast

    • How do you watch movies on kodi? I got the kodi on my firestick but how do I watch movies now?

      • Need add-ons.

    • +2

"GoogleTV"? You mean ChromeCast? GoogleTV is an app, not hardware.

      • +1

        “Chromecast with Google TV”

  • anyone know a way to install kayo i've always wanted kayo on my firestick i have default and 4k if that helps

    • Sideload the APK. It does work, just make sure it's the Android TV version.

    • On my Vodafone TV, I find it far superior to run Kayo through Kodi. Instructions on the net (try Whirlpool) and sub required of course.

    • +1

download kodi then there's a great kayo app from Matt Huismann (google is your friend)

  • +3

    Hey Alexa, upvote deal

  • There is something nice about saying 'play Deadpool' or something else and having it pop up no matter what app it's on. I grabbed the 4k one recently on the JBhifi deal and it works well.

    • +1

Even that JB hi-fi 4K deal is somewhat laggy, when compared to even a discontinued Vodafone TV. I regret buying it.

      • I wonder how long you can have it before returning it…

      • My 4k fire stick is perfect
You need to perform a hard restart via settings once a week, to maintain optimum performance.

        • just clean up the bloatware via adb tools and install a different launcher and it should run fine without needing a reset

  • This doesn't have Google Play Store does it ?

    • Nope, has the Amazon Appstore instead. Does have most of the major apps available though, and it is possible to sideload APKs.

  • Pickup the newly released Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max instead for $99.

    This thing is very laggy.

    • Don’t get it for $99. Find someone with a discount code in the classifieds

      • That is only for the 4K not the 4K Max

        • +2

The Max is a very minor upgrade, Wi-Fi 6 and slightly higher clocks.

        • +1

          Didn’t know it existed!

  • +4

Xiaomi Tv Stick on sale for $49.95 and has Google Play Store built in.

    https://www.mi-store.com.au/xiaomi-mi-tv-stick

    • Can't add to cart.

  • Can u install cinema HD?

    • -1

Yes but I wouldn't recommend it. Doesn't have "proper" Chromecast support and the workaround struggles to work for me, especially
for larger videos. It also doesn't support 4K.

Ended up swapping back with my old Vodafone TV as it was frustrating me.

      • +1

@silkysmooth wouldn't need to cast anything if he's running CinemaHD on the device itself so problems regarding a lack of Chromecast support are moot.

  • +1

You may be able to get it for $29.5

These terms and conditions apply to the offer (the “Offer”) whereby eligible “New to Prime Customers” (defined below) who: (1) sign up for an Amazon Prime Australia membership (monthly or annual) between 05 October 2021 10:00 AM AEDT and 18 October 2021 11:00 AM AEDT (“Offer Period”); and (2) purchase one Fire TV Stick Lite (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07ZZW1B82/)* *on Amazon.com.au (the “Qualifying Item”) before 28 October 2021 11:59 PM AEDT (or while stocks last), will receive 50% off RRP for the Qualifying Item. • Cool! That was my price, as I recently re-subscribed to Prime. Certainly not a "new customer" though.

  • What makes the 'lite' version different from the regular version?

    • +1

Apparently no power and no volume control buttons. And no shortcuts to Netflix & co. Basically dumbed down remote that's it

      • Ok cheers, sounds like the one I already have then. :)

      • That’s not the only difference. The regular version has Dolby Atmos support whereas the Lite only has HDMI passthrough of Dolby-encoded audio. Comparison table

  • +1

Definitely recommend getting the 4K for $20 more if you can grab a 40% off code from this OzBargain thread.

  • $29.50 for new Prime members

  • Does not support Paramount +

    • +1

Oh really, that's a shame cause I got the 1 year for $6

      • well the 4k didnt support it. We had to return :(

        • -1

Paramount + seems to think it does - "Via a casting device, such as …… Fire TV stick". I was looking to get one for the Isuzu UTE A-League

    • What supports Paramount + at the moment?

      • Chromecast with Google TV. And they've recently added bookmarks to your list which was missing at launch.

        • Ok will check it out. The app last time I checked didn’t have the cast icon on iOS

          • @Mahalo: You don't cast paramount+, you just run it on Chromecast with Google TV

            • @ShouldIBuyIt: Ok cool then will wait.. sounds like it will come to most apps sooner or later.

    • That's odd cause I just received it and paramount+ is there, just installed it.

  • +1

    Got one, Thanks OP

    Fire stick 4k 40% off code - D3QP-OMBKEW-V824CX
    Echoshow 8 $60 OFF code - PCK3-2VNXGK-ZEG9CP

Use them before 27th of October

Picked up one of these for $35 on Prime Day this year.

Surprised at all the comments saying they’re slow/laggy, my 2013 Sony Bravia’s Smart TV features were becoming pretty much unusable so this has been like a cool glass of water in comparison.

Edit: Should also say that I only have a 1080p tv so this is fine but probably worth paying the extra $20 and getting the 4K stick for future proofing. It also has a better controller and can control your tvs volume directly.

  • Does it support ultrawide monitor?

  • Are there any 4k max codes yet?

  • It's only $29.50 if you have Prime so you'll be better of joining Prime for one month at $6.99 which will give a total of $36.49.

  • I got this delivered today and so far it’s taken more than 30 mins to start up. Downloading updates, installing updates, again checking for latest updates, again downloading, again installing… 🤦🏻‍♂️
