Garmin Forerunner 50% off @ Qantas & rebel - FR745: 73820 Pts or $424 / FR935: 65130 Pts or $374 (+ Applicable Delivery)

260

Hello small running niche of Ozbargain,

I recently convinced myself I should upgrade my Garmin Vivoactive 3, since I have the music free model and have started listening to tunes a bit more while I run AND am doing my first tri next week!

I landed on the 745 as the most capable watch while maintaining an acceptable form factor - this watch has the extra features I required (garmin pay, music onboard, triathlon mode), is a recent model and very importantly ticks the box of not being a gigantic sundial on my wrist (this last point, and the price point, was where the FR745 beat out the FR945 for me personally).

I had a hunt around for deals (specifically on the not obnoxiously coloured versions, since it's an everyday wear for me) and was stoked when this sale popped up on Qantas! Having just got the ANZ card deal, with 70K QFF points, it is clearly meant to be. If you prefer to save your points or don't have them, this price point at 50% off from Rebel is still GREAT, less that you would usually get an entry level FR245 for.

Check out all the deets and specs here

Find a Rebel store (and call to make sure they have stock) if you want to try it on or buy instore

Sidenote - the FR935 is also on 50% points ~65Kpts here and 50% real money - $374 here and here, cracking deal for a good triathlon watch but I'm just not as excited about it. Older tech + chonkier build, in summary - but if you prefer the bigger face or have been holding out for it then now is your time!

Happy Running!

Now if they would do this with the Fenix 6x Sapphire my cash will be in their pocket.

      • me too, but can't help but think that the 7 is around the corner!

        • Unfortunately there have been rumours since 2020 that the Fenix 7 is about to drop. From sources i don't think it will be until first quarter 2022, plus there's been no decent sales of the Fenix 6 in quite a while.

  • how this compare to a fenix?

    • If you are using just for running then self-explanatory this is called forerunner. If you are a triathlete then pick Fenix. Fenix is way more expensive but if you're not going to be using those features then it will be just a waste of money.

@PeeDee, it's not quite that simple, unfortunately. The higher-end forerunner series are aimed at multisport too, but they have lighter plastic bodies than the like of the Fenix, which is a little dressier. The 6xx series is the top of the running-only, the 7xx series target triathlon and 9xx are multisport.
The 9xx series have been called "plastic Fenix" as they are very close to Fenix in spec, but note that the 935 is the previous generation, so it's more of a "Fenix 5 Lite". Whereas the 745 is the current generation watch, but a tier down from the Fenix 6 / Forerunner 945. The 745 and 935 will be pretty close in the basic exercising specs / sensor compatibility, but the 745 has newer value added features SpO2 and Garmin Pay etc. Have a look at DC Rainmaker's site if you want to get into the detailed pros and cons of each model.

Re a Fenix - well the Fenix 6's have been on sale for mid $400s several times this year - hold out for Black Friday and you'll likely nab one.

    • fenix was around $400 and is much better in every way

Thanks OP, just ordered the 745 as an upgrade from my 245.

  • Re Garmin Pay, the list of banks/institutions that are associated is quite small.

  • Any reason to update from vivoactive 3 music? It has garmin pay, bluetooth for music etc.

I was considering a samsung watch, mostly for fitness and health monitoring features but I feel that since I like my privacy all the features of the watch would be disabled.

    • I updated my Vivoactive 3 with a Fenix and the benefits that I really noticed that these two options also have are (a) better battery life (particularly if your V3 is elderly) and (b) the "resume later" function, which is great for when you've stopped somewhere for more than the 30mins normal resume allows. It's handy to be able to record your commute as a single ride in strava, for example. Body battery is kinda cool too, if a little gimmicky.

I'd agree with Cletus on the battery life, also improved functionality for sports tracking - I specifically wanted to be able to track open water swims
I've had the Vivoactive 3 for a couple of years though and it's still going strong, great watch with a sleek form, if it does what you want already then no reason to change :)

    745 cheaper at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/659245
White and black both available at the same eBay store.

  • Does anyone know if other colours come back in stock on the Qantas site? Looking for the black FR245 Music.

Wouldn't buy the 935, it's a bit old and they released the 945.

I bought the 745 from Onsport via their website before I saw this Ozbargain post and the Mod Note regarding the low seller rating of Onsport. I was swayed to buy from them because of the additional 2,968 Qantas points with the purchase. So I contacted their Live Chat just now about my order and this is what their support agent said:

"i have checked your order and it under backorder. We oversold the product you have ordered and we are now waiting for the supplier's shipment. This usually takes 10-15 business days."

I requested to cancel my order and a full refund. I'll just purchase in store from my local Rebel.

    • thanks for the heads up, I've removed it from the description

  • Garmin Forerunner 245 Music available in black (for those interested):
