  • OP, where are these made?

swordsmiths use traditional, modern techniques and methods to forge this full-function sword

Ah yes, traditional modern. My favorite.

      Hahaha

Made in china, only for decor.

A real one costs like $20k+ lol.

    • Real as in used by samurai and an antique? Sure.

Real as in, made by hand, and quality steel? No way.
I know several smiths here in queensland who will make you a (minimum) 6 fold live blade, and heat treat it for under $1k.

Its still "just a steel blade" like anything; the price comes from the labour.

At $100 an hour; thats quite high for most smiths, and will hire you a pretty decent one.

10 hours to fold, shape and treat a katana is a very decent chunk of time. A "quickly made one" can be done in about 4-6 hours.

Dont know where you're getting 20k, but your smith is ripping you off.

My entire suit of plate didnt even cost that much.

      • Real as in made by a swordsmith in Japan using the old techniques over 4-6months.

We use them in iaido once we reach a level we are confident we can manage it.

        • Oh, well thats quite a specific want you have though.

An Australian made Katana using modern tooling is very affordable and you get to choose how its constructed (including steel type, if you're knowledgeable). Any our local smiths have made have been 'indestructible' during normal use.

More specific to this ad, it didnt claim it was 'made in Japan' its just a Japanese sword.

My Honda is a Japanese car, despite being made in Mexico.

I respect the traditional methods hugely, in regards to art and personal skill; but for use? some modern steel blends are just phenominal and can be pressed and heat treated in minutes, rather than days.

    "real katana swords handmade"

i think people. we’d to sepearte the technique used to make a sword from where the swordsmith was born ……otherwise only pizza made by an italian is any good, but i’m sure there are people who are not italian making great pizza ……same with japanese style swords , you don’t need to be japanese to apply great technique ….in sure there are japanese making bad swords.

Then the title should have been "Japanese style sword replicas" and nobody would have issues with it. You can't get real swords for $300 anyway, katana or otherwise. You'll only hurt yourself and others if you use these for practice swings.

        • Reeeeealy not true.
Ive been using these for cutting demos for years.

Out of stock at the moment; but still.

Nothing stronger than bamboo bundles; but they're pretty strong, to be fair.

I dont think someone taking "practice swings" should be trying to cut anything more than a bamboo bundle personally anyway.

          • @MasterScythe: The problem is the tang. 300 swings a day over a few years and crappy ones won't hold. We've had accidents from people using replicas to practice.

      • and english writing poor english ;)

        achew
        'scuse me

@ garage sale That is all very well but doesn't apply to this sale - "handmade Katana & Samurai Swords" implies a genuine product. Close as this can be is "in the style of" or "replica".

The heading "Handmade Real Katana Samurai Swords" when looking at the detail below is a bare-faced lie IMO.

    NSW
Do I need a licence or permit for a Sword?
In general, swords such as a sabre, cutlass, samurai sword, katana, etc fall outside the scope of the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998 and you do not need a licence or permit to own one and there are no specific safe storage requirements.

However, if a sword is concealed or appears to be something other than a sword, for example if it's concealed in a walking stick, it is classified as a prohibited weapon and you will require a special permit to possess it.

Do I need a licence or permit for a T-Shirt Cannon?
T-Shirt Cannons are classified as a prohibited weapon in NSW under Schedule 1, Item 4(9) of the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998 and you need to apply for a Prohibited Weapons Permit to lawfully possess and use one.
